If you get a chance, you have to see them live. They are an incredibly talented band. I had a chance to see and meet them a couple of times very early in their career, before they became famous, at a small bar called The Tree in Portland Maine. I've tried to see them as much as I can in between Tool and Greatful Dead shows. I think that they are one of the best bands of our era.
This is a nice song and very polished, but you should listen to some live songs. I recommend Run Like An Antelope, Reba, You Enjoy Myself, or Divided Sky to get a sense of what they are like. Most any live performance will do, but the older the better because the younger you are the more energy and dexterity you have. Anything from 94-99 is their prime. The live shows are great bc there’s a 5th member, Chris Kurosawa, the lighting director. He’s been with them forever and he puts on a great experience whether indoors or outdoors. He plays the lights to the songs even the improvised parts he sets the tone and moves with the groove.
Their extended improvisation isn’t just trading solos endlessly, though they can vamp over a theme extremely well. The real magic, and what brings people back, is when they basically create new music on the fly, as a song’s improvisation leaves the structure and key signature of the original number and through listening they’ll evolve the jam into a whole different animal - sometimes 4 or 5 times during the same “song”
The one thing you will never see at at Phish is someone standing still. Its epic back in the day to look across the crowd and see everyone, I mean everyone getting down in there on way. Some of the greatest "dumpster" funk dance sessions at the Gorge in WA a long time ago.
Subbed for more phish! You should check out some live recordings! 12/31/93 'Harry Hood', 'Chalkdust Torture' from Camden 1999, 'No Quarter'>'Simple' From 10/22/16, and 'Carini' from 7/16/23 are all great places to start. Phish can be casual, but there is no band who creates a higher energy or intsnsity. Literally the greatest live shows to exist as far as im concerned.
Songs I'd also check out: "Free", "Rift" all of the Rift Album and Billy Breathes albums actually lol songs like Waste, Taste, Silent In The Morning, From The Bottom, Maze, Horn are a few great ones 👍
You keep joining me on my journey. Saw Tool last year....and my daughter is going to University of Vermont in the fall so I've been trying to introduce them to her. These guys are legends in VT. They filled the "Grateful Dead" gap in the 90's for sure.
The line “welcome this is a farmhouse” was actually written in the guest book of a house the lead singer and his friend/lyricist rented on one of their songwriting trips. They wrote a bunch of the songs from this album on that trip.
Thanks for taking some time to listen to Phish, guys! I love your song "old soul". If you're up for it, let us know what you think of Phish's song "Bouncing Around the Room".
Glad you dove into Phish. Love this song. This is more of a ballad than one of their rock songs. Good intro and this album has some great songs (Piper, Gotta Jibboo, Sand and First Tube). I would suggest listening to other albums to get some more rocking tunes or just looking up some of their live stuff. Dirt also has some deep lyrics too. No matter what-just keep listening - you will enjoy the ride
haha! love it. definitely do live videos (edit: or just live audio), they have a ton on their channel. long ones though :) so much fun, so much talent. vocals may be lacking a bit but so damn good otherwise. nice to see you're going phishing. definitely Grateful Dead-like but more rocky and jazzy. once you're hooked, you will be going to a show. they tour a ton
It is vaguely startling to have something titled Urban Shaman willingly admit that they've never heard of Phish and only a handful of Dead songs; but that is likely just an indication of where we are at as a nation currently, and that I'm not that much longer for this planet. Please do yourselves a favor and spend as much time as you can tolerate with the greatest band that ever was. Your ears will thank you!
To be fair, this is the song where people usually go hit the bathroom. It's an ok song, but Phish have a lot of different sounds. It's the live jams that people live for. Try a Tweezer.
The Ghost from Prague is a must hear. Also the Went Bathtub Gin. Any Split Open and Melt. Farmhouse is a good song but it definitely doesn't represent Phish as a whole.
"it's kind of jambandy" 😂 stunning revelation. Phish cannot be judged honestly without seeing them live. Do it at least once. If you want another song check out Free from the album Billy Breathes. And if you want to go way out there try Divided Sky from any live performance. Phish is opposite to most bands. Their albums are more casual and the live performances are the real meat of what they do. But here is a nice taste of what they do live. This song has zero lyrics but is more like a hard rock sound. First Tube is the song. th-cam.com/video/MkqC_NOaATQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VVnuCnZ5EV0oG_iG I promise you will enjoy this. Pls react to it or just watch it whenever.
Phish is THE jam band mixed with heavy prog rock influences especially Zappa, While this song gets a lot of hate in the Phish community, I dig it. That said, it is probably the safest almost non-Phish song to react to. There are a ton of other songs that will melt your faces off from the best band in the land, but Farmhouse is not it. Some recommendations: Tube, Fluffhead, Down with Disease, Tweezer, You Enjoy Myself, Guyute, Maze, Reba, Blaze On, Bouncing Around the Room, Slave to the Traffic Light, Sample in a Jar, Carini and Ghost to start with. Need to pick live versions which easily be found on Spotify or here on TH-cam.
The Holy Trinity>Phish. Love it!! I suggest that you don't listen to any studio Phish, live is where it's at. I always suggest a song like Free, Chalkdust Torture, or Tweezer for new listeners. You'll never find the same version of any song and some versions can be 30-40+ min. Enjoy
Live Phish is “Better” for fans that already like the band, including me. However to grow the band to a bigger audience, and for your channel to grow to a bigger audience, I think Studio songs hit the mark. The casual or new fan is not going to sit there for a 30 minute song. IF you insist on live, they were on David Letterman a bunch of times and those are great spots.
Honestly, the best way to be introduced to Phish is live. Listening to them this way without context, crowds/fans seems flat. Your reactions show this…sadly. At least review on of the many live performances online. I don’t think I’ve listened to a studio recording.
Phish - Tweezer > Simple - Greek Theater - 4/17/23 th-cam.com/video/sYnpO_GUAt4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nTdbh7pPhyhKxAxP The Top 5 Spotify songs are their most popular but don't adequately represent Phish completely, but the link above provides some yangs to those yins in some way, and IT's all good when IT comes down to IT, enjoy 😉
@@urbanshamanproductions9092first of all i love your vibe, this video is super chill and comfy! i agree that farmhouse wasnt really a very phish-y song to start with but I still liked this a lot anyway, i would say divided sky is a good song to try out 🐾 i would look up a live performance on youtube so you can see the crowd as well
Y’all need to listen to some LIVE phish
Weak move
Best live band you will ever see.

Yes please….more Phish!!
A random single studio album track is not an intro to Phish…
Easily the most "normal" Phish song they ever recorded. There isn't even anyone playing a vacuum or anything.
I second the dude that said "Y'all need to listen to live Phish"❤
Live Phish is the way, just a whole different beast! Anything from 97 you can't go wrong, checkout a live Fluffhead,. Its a Jam band lol
Phish is its own genre. Definitely need to hear their live stuff.
Songs I'd also check out: "Free", "Rift" all of the Rift Album and Billy Breathes albums actually lol songs like Waste, Taste, Silent In The Morning, From The Bottom, Maze, Horn are a few great ones 👍

Not many will agree with me but listen to studio phish all day! Studio first, then live.
Omg I so agree! Their studio albums are so under appreciated and to say they’re better than live is almost blasPHemous.
The line “welcome this is a farmhouse” was actually written in the guest book of a house the lead singer and his friend/lyricist rented on one of their songwriting trips. They wrote a bunch of the songs from this album on that trip.
Live Phish, Yes

Singer guitarist trey Anistasio is amazin and he stood in for Jerry garcia on final shows of grateful dead in chicago yrs ago
Phish, Phish, and more Phish
I can’t believe you are reacting to Phish!

They entered without knowledge and left with the same. lol
More Phish please... check out "Guelah Papyrus" or "You Enjoy Myself"
I would like to see something live.

well they are kind of jambandy lol
You couldn't have picked a tamer more non-Phishy song of theirs to start with lol...

I wouldn't have listened to Farmhouse tbh
Literally the worst possible song to choose
Unless you’re a Trey ballad guy and then you think it was a good choice.
What’s wrong with starting chill lol
Follow the White Rabbit.
Listening to farmhouse is not an introduction to phish btw

definitely not the first Phish tune you should have listened to... especially a studio album
Do more live phish! Educate yourselves:)
Just fyi... this is probably one of the least Phishy Phish songs. Good starting point I suppose. But you need to listen to them live.
Phish - Tweezer > Simple - Greek Theater - 4/17/23

You pretty much picked their lamest song for this video. It's a bad introduction to Phish
@@noelyunginger730 lol that seems to be the consensus, I had no idea. We’ll get back into it soon, what songs or performances should we get into?
@@urbanshamanproductions9092first of all i love your vibe, this video is super chill and comfy! i agree that farmhouse wasnt really a very phish-y song to start with but I still liked this a lot

Yeah, this is lame Phish
Re start with Sample In a Jar, Down with Disease, Wolfmans Brother, If I Could.....
This is one of their overproduced singles 🫤
