Hey everyone! It's me, HawkeyeG. I stream Total War on Twitch as well as some multiplayer games with friends. I have been working on making videos and guides for Total War to upload here. I'm going to continue producing Total War content to help provide tips and tricks, as well as full playthroughs. I'm hoping to help new players get a feel for the game and learn how to play it and have fun! I'm also hoping to be able to give some tips for each race and faction, as well as giving a general idea on how each campaign works to help give people some direction when starting out their own campaigns.
I'm planning to eventually include content for other games I play as well. Funny moments and clutch kills or survival in other various games. Those will become more common as my video editing skills continue to improve :)

Outpost mechanics in Total War: Pharaoh
Hey everyone! It's me HawkeyeG here with another video for you. This time I'm explaining one of the campaign mechanics of Pharaoh - specifically Outposts!
This is a new mechanic to the series and almost entirely unique save perhaps one potential comparison. These have a significant impact on the game and will be an important part of your decision making when planning out your provinces. Since there are a few different types, and it's a new and unique idea, I thought I would make a video to help explain how they work and how they are used best!
If you have any other questions about the game please feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability.
Chapters:
0:00 - Intro
0:12 - Outpost types and effects on settlements/province
1:44 - Outpost effects on armies
3:34 - Strategic placement and purpose
7:23 - AI related remarks
10:07 - Closing Remarks
Please note this is an unofficial video and is not endorsed by SEGA or the Creative Assembly in any way. For more information on Total War, please visit www.totalwar.com.

How did you get so many elven settlements? Did you take them by force or there is a way to make them join you?
Moving while encamped is a nerf to Skaven....how am I gonna make my irl friend rage in head to head about Stalking stance :P Edit: Also taking an allies army specifically to weaken them is very Skaven/Dark Elf like
took me four turns first region did they change the start or something
I'm interested how your advice changes since 5.0 onwards. There have been quite a few game changers for the Ancestral Throng since then. On the "more quarrelers thing" I think that's a mistake. My opinion is that since the elves will bring so many shades and darkshards it will be costly to try to engage in a shooting match. The Ancestral Throng has 20% more weapon strength against elves and when you combine this with the Rune of Speed, Grombrindal Has No Fear and Grimnir's Strength early on and various runes, items, skills and technology later, rushing the elves is stronger than missile play. The trick to that type of playstyle is to avoid fights in open terrain, don't allow your units to get shot, maximise speed, use ambushes and try to avoid protracted siege offences. Coming out of trees close to the dark elf army, their ranged units will not get any value and will try to run away. Rune of Speed and Master Rune of Speed can give your units in the affected area +90% speed and +48 melee attack when combined and it's perfect for this play style.
I don't like that they add the diplomatic information detailly. It make us less surprised
It like, you can't actually forecast something detailly unless it will be a ability of a race. That will make game more sense
They make the campaign is much easier,
But I think it a good point to bring more new player approach the game comfortably and easily. I had a lot of suffer as a new player of TTW2, The campaign like hell for me at that time and the battle make me like a chick waiting to be slaughtered.
This was my first campaign, after multiple campaign restarts coz I had a couple of bad starts (didn't watch a guide) I can honestly say Kislev is so much fun once you understand how it works. I had been warned not to play Kislev first but I just wanted to get that Boris unlock out of the way, and when I seen how fun they were I persisted to beat the campaign. Being surrounded at the start makes the campaign more intense and action packed, and I always say the best way to learn a game is to jump straight into the deep end. Imo it is worse advice to play something with an easier start, because you may waste hours with the game being easy and then suddenly hit a difficulty spike you were not ready for. Better to jus get straight into a lot of battles on a relatively hard faction, and keep trying different things till you find out what works. You may lose a few battles, may even lose the campaign, but you learn something every time you lose. If you keep winning, you haven't learned anything and when you go to play a harder faction you are back to square one.
Extremely useful video brother, It was surprisingly hard to find a simple video that breaks down the differences between tww2 and tww3, you've convinced me to upgrade to tww3, the differences are worth it imo.
Thankyouu
This was really helpful. I got the game a few days ago and have been struggling (still fun but man). Those battle suggestion factions seem really good and i think ill go with one of them.
im a new player to this game and tbh chaos dwarf economy is a challange of itself i realy dont get why the upgrades of armaments for units cost daily weapon resorces its so stupid i found out i got best economy when i dont upgrade my units and thats dumb
Thank you for the help! Very informative!
dude i keep getting wreaked the east gets dominated by a chaos faction the north has a really strong army that takes alot of effort to even get rolling back by turn 6 everything north of me hostile i have to face one of these threats before even engaging the counts by the time i do they're unstoppable fielding at least 6 armies to my two that are straining my economy to the max and my allies at this point are gone or way to weak to reastablish an assist meaningfully if i dont face the east all of bretonia is gone if i dont go north chaos hits my core province and im surrounded by chaos and vamp corruption every campiagn is a decided loss at the start and this isnt even to mention the elfs and beast heards which make me loose critical areas at the worst time by about turn 20 im completely surrounded the situation is hopeless iv even tried diplomacy but this makes me unable to stop civil wars even as all factions before me get steam rolled... is this because im missing one DLC? any help would be appreciated im at a loss
I just spent 357 turns on my first ever campaign as the Dawi and accidentally won... I had no idea how to win I was just playing like risk/civilization. I just had to fight 4500 rats as 500 Dawi and it ended.
Khorne is NOT an easy faction for new players. However if a new play was dead set on maining khorn then they should purchase both beastmen DLC and learn torux the brass bull as he is similar to Khorne. Then once you understand how to do that then play khorne
As a person who just picked up TWWH about 2 weeks ago, i agree, khorne was not an easy campaign to jump into as a beginner. I backed out of it at turn 8 and switched to cathay for the 3rd time
i dont know why . but i played almost 200 hours almost every immortal empire campaign and wont stop until i finish the campaign which is ridiculously long . but whenever i play vortex i never finish the campaign .😕
I learned some good combat tactics and formation from these vids. Thanks
When did they make the latest change to the Dwarf as i se alot of videos covering various changes and i got into WH3 only recently but the entire Grudge system seems to have been given a major overhaul after even those videos.
The only reson i can se why the Empire is recommended for new players by default is becouse of how popular the faction is. Its a dice roll if u get a calm start or if your getting swarmed from every direction possable. U got orcs coming from the West i think its the skull smashers but i could be wrong about what greenskin faction it is so Helmguard guarding that mountain pass could be useless if they deside to go under it. U got the ships coming on the river from the North, The Beastmen tearing apart the elector counts from the NorthEast and the Vampires from the East doing the same. South is likly your only safe direction but even that can go wrong if your really unlucky with the goblins bordering Reikland in the mountains. So its a cointoss how many of those factions desides to steam right towards the Empire in the early game. This can ofc also flip if the elector counts desided they gonna play good and actually try to fight the Beastmen and the Vampires and the longer they can hold out to allow u to build up Reikland the easier its gonna be. What kills the Empire campaign is when those enemy factions goes berserk and forces u to battle them before your infastructure is set up. I love the Empire faction as a concept as they dont really have any god tier units that will win u battles on there own but u instead have to use more combined arms tactics to make the faction really shine. I started an Empire campaign not to long ago and it was almost like every single 1 of those factions hade a secret military alliance or something from Turn 1 as every single 1 of them came with a full 20 stack around the same time before Turn 15. That was a quick restart. 20:20 I have to Lore nerd out abit here but yeah if u wanna play as the end of all things Archaon is a perfect choice. I dont know mutch about the other lords in the Total war series but this guy has 1 hell of a legendary story and journey to become who he is, what he went through to became who he now is and most importantly who he was before becoming Archaon the Everchosen. Look for a longer detailed lore video on yt or good audio books and u will not be disappointed.
Very nice guide, thanks
Great guide, helps a lot 😁
Bought my first TW Warhammer game in 3 coz of the Steam summer sale and wow. This video is of great help for a bumbling noob like me who is starting with Cathay. Not sure as to how accurate the info on this vid still is but i just wanted to say thanks!
This video cut in a mid sentence, I was hoping to find some info on vortex
If you had the same outpost building type - do they stack or is it a waste?
Learned a lot, thank you so much!
Bro, this was actually so extremely useful. Thanks a TON for the work and research that went into this.
I would do more research on this topic, because it's been two years and they probably introduced new things or reverted some of the new things.
Informative video and nicely produced!
Love this
A bit late to the party, but the "race" aspect of the Vortex campaign didn't bother me. What DID bother me was the Chaos armies spawning system: They are programmed to spawn as far away from your forces as possible. This isn't an epic defence of your ritual sites, it's a game of whack-a-mole. It's obnoxious. Here is what I'd prefer instead: instead of spawning armies, you get a scripted battle against chaos forces (and maybe other races) for each ritual, which you must complete with your lord's army. That way you can't autoresolve your way out of it with four doomstacks nor do you have to chase Chaos armies around.
If you send raiding parties with lord and 19 labor goblins you can get all the workers you ever want. Currently I have 7 parties in lustria as Zhatan (sea routes).
How do you get those warhammer 1 and 2 races ? buy the game 1 and 2 or DLC in warrhamer 3 ?
Buy warhammer 1 and 2
Or buy the trilogy on something like cd keys
I did it the other way around, i had a treaty with Lybaras and gifted Lamia and other stuff to them to buff them a bit and they witheld KroqGar for at least 30-40 turns while i took care of the rats and skarbrand and a lot of orcs. At this point, KroqGar had only 5 cities and was no problem anymore. I have to admit i didnt know until this video that a military alliance is enough to get the artifact part. If i had known this i would have chosen to side with the lizards instead. But then i found it really hard to get diplomacy going as Thorek.
Awesome guide thank you!!
Big thanks for this!
Okay so that wasnt the best example as you said. Where is the good example then where you win as a smaller faction?
Is the cat part of the army?
Thanks for all the good info! One other thing is the little ramparts on the top of the city banner indicate that the city has a wall built around it.
You deserve more subs. These army comp videos are so good and I haven't found anyone else doing them in such depth.
One of the best video I have seen in the last 8 years about Total War Warhammer. Clear, easy to follow (english isn't my first language), really informative. You should have 100.000 eubscribers.
It is completely out of date now though sadly. Was a good video at the time. Hopefully he remakes it for the new players coming in now.
Just got this game the other day after playing Thoreks campaign in TWWH2 and got Kroq-gar'd just like you said. I tried so hard to get a non-aggression with him but he just wouldn't do it, then after I took out Khalida I noticed a whole lot of skinks and saurus outside my walls hissing. Bowmen of Oreon are an annoyance too, but at least they tend to stick around for a long time and act as a buffer for your starting province. Anyone who wants to kill you has to go through them first. They're like a wutelgi powered early wozzak detection system.
remember all total war 1-2 dlcs are added and work for 3, so when theres a steam sale he he he
got wood elves half off muahahhahah
Not sure if much has changed but I find war wagons to be totally useless My comp in the early game is tons of archers/spearmen, upgrading to crossbows, handgunners and shielded spearmen where appropriate Mid game is 5 or 6 mortars, 5 or 6 ranged split between huntsmen and handgunners and several heroes and spearmen with shields, preferably the RoR or Elector state troops, usually fire mages and warrior priests with a captain for training xp between fights late game i replace most of the mortars and 1 of the spears with rocket batteries, but the comp is otherwise the same the only cav i use if i do use it is the outsiders with grenade launchers the idea is to bog down the enemy in melee with cheap garbage and heroes, let the gunners shoot into the enemy as they engage these units and use the rockets to disrupt formations and deal tons of damage on the approach the only army that came close to defeating this last comp was Drycha using 6 or 7 of those giant tree people with 9k hp, and several casters and ogre mercs but luckily the rockets did work on the regular infantry and the huntsmen and gunners came through for damaging the trees but I did lose over half my army with each tree person getting about 120-150 kills each
i disagree about the early game convoys. I think its better to send convoys right away. first reason is that your economy is weakest early game i take every advantage i can. second the convoy gets more units as it goes out on missions, making it stronger, the more time you have to build strength the better since missions take time. third the battles you fight with them give you more money which is helpful fourth reason is that everyone is at war with someone else in the early game and their armies have weak troops, its the late game with much fewer factions but with 5 armies each that your caravans wont be going places outside your control
Thanks
I know nakai is DLC but I think he is the best lizard men faction for beginner
I see a lot of people disagreeing about Early game convoys. Personally I think a Middle-ground is best here. Just like everyone is saying, longterm benefit of running Convoys is too good to postpone them a lot. But I also think it is worth holding off on them, just long enough, to get the Research that gives all overseers +3 Ranks. That way your very first Convoy is going to either be stronger or more profitable (depending on which skills you pick) right out of the gate!
i like battles in this one so much more than warhammer. I like the limited scope of battles, balance feels nicer and this time around its not a ranged meta like in warhammer where infantry is useless.
My tip. Your first target right from the beginnig should be to eliminate vampires because in late game they will be pain in the ass. Manfred is the only real threat from the south. Empire will lose war with him and then he usually attack eastern oblast or even Kislev itself. His provinces are rich. Plus Kislev roster have no problems to deal with undeads.
Worth gold, started out playing three days ago and the information overload is real. This helped a bunch, Thank you!
I always do the blue line first. Also. The replenishment is just too important. I always get the underway interception just to occasionally snag free wins against skaven and greenskins hoping around the mountains. 4th point in the 1st section is +1 untainted. Then grab all 3 points in replenishment and 4th point goes to ambush defense to get inquiring mind. After blue line go red line for whatever you will use. With the forge items dwarf units and heroes are tanky enough to put off the yellow line stat buffs until level 30+. I also totally agree with you about taking oath gold on almost every battle. I would take the growth only until your 1st province is secured. Because getting to tier 4 as fast as possible so you can unlock the op elite units and start increasing hero caps is the biggest early power spike the dwarfs can get. Some little min max tricks that don't require too much effort is to look for lords and heroes with Ancestral Blood Grungni. Those 5% research bonuses add up. With Lords you can disband them afterwards and they still provide the research bonus when sitting in the lord pool. If you eventually get to the point you can recruit lords at level 12. Then you can recruit a lord give them inquiring mind and disband them and basically buy 10% research rate for a few hundred minerals. As an added bonus with enough heros with the Ancestral blood grungni trait, you can get free building upgrades in the region they are in.
2 questions, you use some cavalry setups, but most ppl hate cathay calvary. What are times I should use calvary? Also is there a way to tell when you crane gunners can shoot over your frontline instead of just eyeballing the elevation.
Which dlc do u need to get the lizard men please?
