What Is The Funniest Show Of All Time? (The I.T Crowd Video Essay)
This video ticks the box for every video essay cliché in existence, including putting random words on the screen to show what is being said, brief, random pauses, and wacky editing.
In defense of the long choking scene, it's meant to be a parody of the chestburster scene in Alien which the season borrows heavily from. Honestly I'd be shocked if they DIDN'T do it
1:08:14 *Appreciate! Damn you!
1:06:58 liked and subscribed, fun ride!
30:02 it’s the two years later test….
29:57 What in this video suggests that you have friends. I’m using pause to read this stuff, I would know.
25:39 not falling for it
But why *Carol, the one least impacted by outsourcing? 23:50
22:48 *museum I know you left these as tests
13:02 *wasted
What a misquote of Matthew 7
Up until the quality drop its one important of my favorite shows of all time. Thanks for making this 🤘
That '1999' series makes me want to watch that season to find out if it's at all based on the old tv show 'Space 1999.' I loved sci-fi as a kid and loved this show (in the 70s & 80s). It was rarely on at a time when I could watch it which probably lead to me wanting to see more of it. The way the '1999' is written on the titles reminded me of the original show. I saw an episode of it more recently and it was good, but nowhere near as good as I'd remembered from my childhood. This seems to be something that has happens to shows over time. With the saturation and exposure to genres that once fascinated or horrified us, we become less shocked by them. When we watch those old shows now, they seem so tame compared to how bat-scared they made us when we were young. (watch some old Dr Who episodes from the 1970s and you'll see what I mean. Some of those scared me sh**less as a kid! Seeing them now just makes me laugh.) I wonder if the other odd changes to other seasons happened by basing them on older shows? Maybe this accounts for some of the inconsistencies in the series?
I loved the first couple of seasons of Archer, but like anything that trails off in quality, I find myself drifting off from it as that quality takes a dive so that's as far as I watched of the show. (I couldn't get past 4 seasons of Strangers Things and definitely dropped off from watching Lost once it started trailing off in quality.) I'd never thought about the initial series being a reflection of the early Bond films though. I'm starting to wonder, despite it being such a startling turn, if later series were based on other early shows?
'there are some words here and you are reading them.' Thanks for that.
Loved your summary of this show. I've grown up watching a lot of BBC comedy shows (on the ABC in Australia since the late 1960s). I've never actually seen many American comedy shows that are actually funny. Yes, there are some in recent years (Archer, The Office, Parks & Rec) but generally shows and movies from there are overhyped and, therefore, the expectations yield disappointing results. I think this is part of the problem with American hype. One the things that works so well for British comedy shows is that they often have a limited life span. You know when to stop making a television series. We might really miss a show and wished they'd made more seasons, but at the same time, we remember them for their highest points. You don't have that disappointing trail off. American TV execs seem to want to milk a show (tv or movie sequels) till the bloody cow is dead! When the writer no longer agrees, they just bring a myriad of other writers... and directors... and there's no consistency and no high moral ground to live up to. They do a seriously good job of killing off many of their shows and reputations. I can't wait to watch some of your other reviews (having subscribed after this one video). If you're still around, I'd love to see your take on Upstart Crow.
There’s an and then there were none tv show???? Fuckin where??
in sixth form 2023 i put a goal for myself to be successful enough to buy and fund a car for uni, now i go uni with a bmw m140i and fund my education with no loans what so ever, i do forex trading and a partial owner of a car dealership only at the age of 19!, this goes to show if you work hard enough nothing is impossible, and the inly reason i still go uni is to still live the experience and get a degree incase life doesnt work out as planned in the future. as to what you suggested in the video, you are absolutely right, for an average uni student, you should never consider buying a car as it will literally drain your bank account
Thanks for the video about one of my favorite shows! I agree that the show has definitely gotten slower, but it still has it its magic, just I suppose not as consistently. The first 2 out of office seasons are fantastic, but I agree that the space season is pretty rough except for the episode, I forget if it's second to last, or last, where they find the woman who it turns out convinced everyone on her ship to kill themselves. Doesn't justify the whole season, but it could have totally supported an arc. The current season is good is good to have around, but I, the show, and the whole damn world miss Mallory, although I think it's really classy the way they let her go. Now I have to go watch a video about COMMUNITY, not sure if it was made by you. 6 sessions and a movie.
An hour of this dry pompous crap is more insufferable than any season of Archer. “Im a Brit and im going to lecture on what comedy is”😒
The choking scene was a reference to Alien
i watched nothing but archer season 1 and 2 and top gear for like 6 months straight all out of order on justintv before it ended. frisky dingo is one of my favorite shows ever and i can still remember freaking out when i saw archer's art. bloody brilliant.
They really gave Pam the “Meg” treatment
how the fuck do bro go from good video essays to university content????????????????????????
2:57 No actually i found you through recommended. Giving ur like to pass it on to the algorithm. Hope you're keeping up the good work✌🏽
If anyone is curious, die Maus (the mouse) can be a slang word for "a chick." Die Jungs mit der Maus is a pun meaning "The Boys With The Mouse (cute girl)."
Busy in my workshop an that knocking sound came up, nearly pissesd myself l,good one😂😂
Fantastic video. Great insight. And only with a laptop and no money. Way to put me in my place.
Do Letterkenny next
when I look at the coma seasons I like to think the overgeneralization of the character's and their loss of background is more of Archer's general impression of them and how he just sees them as (idk kinda speakin outta my ass mb)
The AV club, of all places, made a really good insight. Once Reed departed from writing in Season 10, several different writers began to helm the show, some of which were better than others. So Seasons 11-14 were not only vastly different from seasons 1-10, but each individual episode varied in quality depending on who wrote it. And if I've said it once, I've said it a billion times. But if Mark Ganek wrote EVERY episode of Season 11 onward, it would have been wonderful. If Alison Zeidman wrote EVERY episode Season 11 onward, it would have been wonderful. Every other writer, Mike Arnold, Brittany Miller, etc., just didn't really get what the show was about.
More failed American attempts to remake British gold: Ghosts Death at a Funeral The Office season 1 The news
As I recall, they had to change direction from the spy agency because their spy agency was ISIS. For obvious reasons, they felt like they had to change it up. Season 5 is definitely the best. I was confused and lost interest in the "dream" seasons. I still haven't watched them all the way through. I've only seen a couple of episodes after the dream seasons and they were disorienting and not as good. So if I had to pick when the show's quality fell off, it would be the dream seasons. Hasn't been the same since.
Love the candid editing, particularly bout 30:00. Your friends might not get it but I certainly do
Lana ..Lana ..Lana..LAAAAÀAANNNNAAAAAA!!!!!!
High quality vids. Too bad you got busy. Good luck, man. Subbed if you ever come back.
The video is interesting but I had to stop watching when you blew my f****** eardrums out
Toilet humor is one of the easiest forms of humor so an increase indicating a decline in quality makes sense. Points to a lack of effort.
Hope you are doing well mate whatever you are up to
30:00 it's not sad. As long as they support your ambition and dreams. But I understand the sting of the closest people not interacting. We got you though!
Comment to help your channel!
The scene of the choking on a space ship was from Alien only without the alien popping out.
HYPOTHESES
Adam Reed left. He wrote every episode. And left after the coma seasons.
Previously on That Show You're Watching: Hey, remember when that really really good guy left and said he was never ever ever coming back? yeah remember that? or how about when the good guys found that magical sword but didn't know what it was for? and remember when that immortal bad guy was bragging about how no normal weapon could defeat him, only a magical weapon wielded by a really really good guy? yeah? you remember all of that? why? no reason, enjoy the show, anything could happen!
Oke but this editing is so good
ACTUALLY... I have a VERY different take than John Cleese on why first novels (albums, movies by writer/directors, plays, comics, etc) seem to be the pinnacle of their work: It's because they've been working on it since they were 12,13,14,15,16... so that even if they manage to get published at a young age, like in their 20's, they've been working on that one piece for 10-15 years and more than half their life to that point. There is the aspect of people working on their own for 10 years as well, not having yes men or people putting in their ideas and agendas, sure, but that's secondary. When you spend 10-15 years on a painting, you have a Sistine Chapel.
The episode were Archer keeps citing historical aliagator attacks from memory In order to justify his crippling phobia of aliagators. Whom otherwise has a almost unbelievable fearless nature to life threatening situations. So f ing dumb, but had me rolling laughing, not only through the entire episode, but has often popped up in my mind randomly years later and still makes me chuckle.
-Have you tried turning it on and off again? -Did you see that ludicrous display last night? -I am disabled. -I am not a window cleaner. -Kissing the widow at the funeral while insisting on handing her a pen. -Thank you my love (said to a judge while in session) -Faaaaaatheeeeeer! !! (Entering a funeral) -I thought you said you were from Iran -Demagnitized by the Hawk himself (the internet off of the Big Ben) -ladder to escape moths out of the bath -Your name is Maurice Moss, is it not? -I have no further question (after receiving no replies the third time while wearing a quilt as his own lawyer). -Fire!? At a sea paarrrkkk!? . . .
Season 7 was when it started sucking and never recovered. if it weren't for the amazing voice cast (except Cyril's va) it would be worthless.
I honestly think it has more to do with your age. Those three seasons are my absolute favorite. They did so well with dreamland that it blows my mind.
Season 7 was going to be the last season of the show because of complications within the studio. The original plan was to buy out the remaining contract and just move on. Somebody during the writer's strike of that year decided that they wanted to do their own version of what they thought Archer could be, and it was right after the Woodhouse character died, and so season 8 was born. Mostly ghost written by one person, that wasn't the normal showrunner, and then season 9 was the same thing, but a different co runner and then season ten was the same thing... They didn't even know if they were gonna continue making the show. But they had to make ten seasons. That was their contract. By the time seasons 8 and 9 had been written, the characters were enjoying themselves again and so decided to sell more seasons... and then the next writers' strike caused production to be extended just like every other show on... one season every 2 years... or so. And that's what happened to Heros... and lost... too many great shows get chewed up by greedy pieces of corporate dung.
Seasons 8,9,10 weren't supposed to be normal. They weren't even supposed to resemble what had come before. They were purposeful explorations at the end of a seemingly failed contract cycle that wasn't supposed to continue. The fact that they continued to make the show past season 7 is the win. It was never supposed to last through any of that turmoil.
I feel like maybe it's funny because by the end of the essay, you are criticizing the show for what it ultimately did. By exploring itself through the lens of the critical analysis that it started with and never having changed that throughout its whole runtime. namely being centered around the story of Archer being archer, and the consequences and everything that comes along with that. Good, bad, fast, slow dynamic, not dynamic... Asking a show to stay nostalgic for you because that's what you like... is not how media is made. So like, if seasons 1-4 are your favorite. Cool.
