I think the joke that killed me the hardest throughout the entire series was Jen turning to the bar to see Moss everything about the lead up, to his expression, it's all just wonderful.
I think IT Crowd definitely mastered the setup and payoff of jokes, I mean the entire window cleaner plot with Roy led up to the operating system joke.
Yes, the IT Crowd was excellent at setting up complex jokes, which sometimes even required two competing story lines to pull off. Earlier in his career, before he mastered the art of the joke, the writer also wrote a series called Father Ted. It's not as funny (50% as good, at most) but you can see how he's learning the art of setting up complex jokes.
I don't think there's a single weak episode. That bit where Douglas recalls how April was so worried about coming "from Iran" and ends up with them landing on "the internet" 😂. Amazing.
In my opinion, series 2 episode 1: work outing, is the best single episode of a sitcom of all time. I was crying uncontrollably with laughter the first time I saw it.
When this episode came out my two daughters were about 12 and 13. They watched it time after time on our TV recorder and fell about laughing. They still watch it and sometimes quote from it. Their drama teacher at the time played the barman. Jen singing about willys, Roy says 'no, I like willys!' Barman, 'Keep it down!' And 'hold my hand' - 'that's not my hand!'. 🤣 And using the word, 'willys' makes the whole thing intensely funny. Imagine if they had to use the word penis, like most shows are forced to, now? I think their drama teacher also played the vicar in Golden Child.
Perhaps :) But here is the second funniest *scene* in TV history: th-cam.com/video/iDbyYGrswtg/w-d-xo.html #1 surely is the dinner scene in "The Germans" (Fawlty Towers)
Douglas seems more popular, but Chris Morris as Denholm is literally one of my favourite characters in any show. He’s absolutely bizarre and has some great quotes
Such a good scene, when he runs for no reason knocks over the coffin and fights the priest 😂. I have some other videos I’d love for you to check out if you enjoyed this one :)))
While they weren't heavy on the IT jokes the ones it did were hilarious for people that worked in IT. The episode where Moss lost his memory and in the end falls down and they play the windows start up music as he gets his memory back was perfect comedic timing. I always thought that the IT Crowd is what The Big Bang Theory could have been.
I don't work in IT so I miss out on that brilliant relatability aspect, I think it only speaks to how great the show is because of how it was still so good for someone who hasn't done a day of proper IT work in his life. I totally agree though, one of the best jokes in the whole show :)
The Work Outing is my favorite. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life! “I’m disabled” became a catch phrase. And I just now realized that title has a double meaning. Bravo!
As an American I can agree that IT crowd is a godlike comedy. I'm sad that the show only lasted about 4 seasons but those episodes were so good that it doesn't matter.
I just discovered this show this year. I cannot believe I had not heard of it before. But I was hooked! I cannot think of any sitcom shows where I actually LOL'ed at least 3 times during each episode. This is a classic and a must watch..again and again.
I think you’ll find additional jokes on rewatches when you have time to look at more of the details of the set and also start to notice more of the repeated jokes from episode to episode, some of which are pretty subtle. Best of all, I find that everyone who loves this show is able to have repeated watches be just as funny…funnier even for the anticipation of some of the best moments. This is the only show that’s like that for me.
The shows DVD's also have some of the most creative menu screens ever. Each disk contains a reference to a different video game or piece of the internet. The IT crowd is the only show I've seen that put so much work into just the menu select.
Was my fav series ever, I still watch it when I'm depressed or bored. The theatre episode sticks out so much, I have mobility issues and partially disabled....so me and my bro keep saying "ooo I'm legs disabled". Makes me chuckle.

I'm from across the pond and I normally don't watch sitcoms, however when I was introduced to the IT Crowd season 1 during an Ethical Hacking class during the late 2k, I fell in love with this show!! I have watched every episode repeatedly and have a copy of all the seasons and Thank Netflix for having it as well!. I always feel like an empty husk (LOL) after watching the last episode, so I'll start it all over again lol!! I was on a kick watching bloopers and deleted scenes today when I found your video!! Again... Well Done and Thanks for sharing!!!
You’re welcome!!!! Brilliant husk reference!!! The compliment really means a lot!! Thank you!!! I get that with tv shows and movies so much, Harry Potter especially…. Every time I finish the books I get really sad withdrawals and have to start all over again 😅😂 I just put a new video out you should check it out if you are a fan of archer, if not thanks for the comment!

Ahhhh Soo good. I love your passion for the show because I've loved it Soo so so so much for years. Me and my wife have watched it seriously atleast 15 times all the way through. Great job on this mate
Graham Linehan is truly a master of comedy writing. No one else even comes close. I can watch his shows over and over and crease up every time. his choice of brilliant comedy actors is always spot on too.
as much as i love IT crowd, praising graham is weird subject cause he’s a major POS irl being crazy transphobic and spreading a lot of hate, but some of the media he’s created is hilarious
Thank you very much but this has happened before and my HR team makes me ask a mandatory set of questions when people are this nice... 1) is anyone holding you hostage and or holding you at gun point to say this? 2) is anyone giving you any amount of money to say this? 3) on a scale of one to ten what is the likely hood that you a robot? 4) was this sarcastic and I just haven’t realised? 5) what is you favourite spice to use when you make a traditional Russian okroshka?
@@NateGate to answer your questions: 1). The man holding the gun to my head is telling me to say that I’m not being held hostage. 2). I wish I was being paid for being nice, it’s way easier to be mean. However, I couldn’t find something nasty to say about this video. 3). To be honest with you, sometimes I fail those “are you a robot” questions you get when trying to log in to stuff (captchas). So, it’s not completely impossible. 4). Whaaaat? Me? Sarcastic? NEVER! 5). This video ticks the box for every video essay cliché in existence, including putting random words on the screen to show what is being said, brief, random pauses, and wacky editing.
During the whole first episode i was thinking “this is absolute dogshit” But over the course of ti I couldn’t help but to fall in love w it, i make all your words mine, Hugs from Angola 🇦🇴 got a new subscriber. May GOD keep blessing us!
The Final Countdown episode is an absolute classic. Even managing to get in an indirect reference to the film They Live, when Moss says “I’ve come here to drink milk and kick ass, and I’ve just finished my milk!”
Honestly, that is probably my most quoted line from the entire show!!!! anytime I say it around people who haven't seen the show though they assume I'm just a crazy creep!!!! 😂😆

“There’s somebody at the door, there’s somebody at the door! 🎵 “ God, Matt Berry is a genius. He was a great follow up to Denholm, and it was my first role I ever saw of his. Incredible. This show is most definitely worth watching. And it’s a, gasp! Sitcom no less?? With a laugh track? Somehow it was amazing
Matt berry and Richard Ayoade were in a series previously called Garth Meringhes Dark Place along with the IT guy from the office. Flew totally under the radar but was brilliant P.s. the only real comparison for IT Crowd is Father Ted. Also written by lineham
One correction, Jeff from Community is not a straight man. He kind of starts off that way but then becomes just as weird and as flawed as the rest of the study group.
Here's a like just because your list of the best episodes is basically perfect (although I'd switch your 1 and 2 spots, I think the work outing is my favorite episode of any comedy, ever, though it might just be a little funnier to me because I'm actually gay lmao)
Our Microsoft teams group at work gets IT Crowd sayings and images posted whenever we’re having tech problems... One of my favs: When Moss starts a fire and try’s to put it out with a fire extinguisher which catches on fire also. “I’ll just put this fire with the other fire”. Brilliant! Isn’t that how life is when you have a series of disasters?
something i find really cool about the IT crowd is that the show is so ridiculous that it almost makes the viewer the "straight man". the laugh track often occurs after something weird happens and all the characters never react to it the way that the audience reacts to it because they don't view it as weird. it really adds to the hilarity, as it lets the show go off the walls while being subconsciously aware of it's own craziness
That's a really good point, within the world of the show the bombastic situations are just kinda normal for the character. Fire Extinguishers spontaneously catching fire is just a normal thing. German cannibals throw good dinner parties and make delightful hoasts 😂🤣
I really enjoyed this video, and always appreciate this show getting some much needed love! :) Subscribed :D I would love to hear your thoughts on Garth Merenghi's Dark Place as I adore that show too just as much
My favorite scene/joke is the gun, casually looks in drawer, "Oh look a gun." Second has to be the fire extinguisher catching on fire, because it was made in Britain.
I think that the extinguisher joke is brilliant, just because it's so true!! like as someone that lives in the UK it's just the most relatable thing possible. The show was so good at little quick jokes like those also. ones that took a whole episode to set up, when moss is revealed to be the waiter in a work outing 💀
The football episode and the one with the german cannibal had me on the floor gagging on my laughter . And the Gay musical one is just ......A MASTERPIECE 😂
there is a similar moment to Renham jumping out the window in Black Books (also a Graham Lineham product) where Bernard is visiting his accountant. Also mentioning about the pauses in the US version, pauses can be funny, one of the funniest moments of all the series (in my opinion) is in the countdown episode where Roy gets a lift from the roof on a window cleaners lift and his friend sees him (who only seems to see him in situations that make roy look like a window-cleaner) and he says 'aargh no now he thinks I'm a window-cleaner and after there is a long uncomfortable silence with the window cleaner just staring at him with a really stoney expression and they really just stretch it out in almost silence which makes it absolutely hilarious. Frankly I have seen almost everything Graham Lineham has done and everything he touches is hilarious I would be hard pressed to find a favourite as I love all his stuff so much. The American version only has Graham listed as a producer and that could mean anything from absolutely no connection apart from the source material the remakes coming from (I remember John Carpenter saying in an interview about one of the halloween remakes he was listed as a producer as his only involvement was writing a cheque(not the 2018 halloween)) to being heavily involved, I have a feeling that Grahams involvement of the US version was very minimal and I think thats why it doesnt work.
This perfectly sums up why I love this show so much, it’s such a shame my friend was turned off by the laughter in the preview before giving it a chance because I’m sure they’d love it too
@@NateGate they told me it sounded good when I described some of the scenes to them so I’m gonna remind them of that often, but yeah hopefully I’ll succeeded
this show was my gateway to British Comedy and pretty much helped form my sense of humour. The Mighty Boosh, Luxury Comedy, What We Do In The Shadows, The Inbetweeners, Bottom and Garth Marenghi's Dark Place are some of my favorite British comedies. Curb Your Enthusiasm is probably the only American sitcom I find funny.
Please accept my sincere apologies. It is my 2nd favourite episode but the video was already pretty long and I couldn’t justify another ultra deep dive into another episode.
Do you think so? I've had people tell me both. I think that is kinda what the last season was all about... the super long episode. on one hand, I really want more!!!! on the other hand, it ended so well!! thankyou for your comment and sorry for the late reply :)
TH-cam was so kind to recommend me to this video just know. I really need to rewatch The IT Crowd now! Can't even decide which is my favorite episode, because I love them all! Edit: as a German, I didn't know about the german remake and I have no interest in even trying to watch it.
your welcome. I'm still making the video I promise, I know the release dates may tell a different story 🤣, I haven't seen the show but tons of people have suggested it to me so I think it's defiantly a must-watch. I would totally consider it though because I love the style of comedy. thankyou for the comment. I have another video coming out soon if you want to check it out :) if not thank you for your comment and I'm glad you enjoyed my video :)
You should check out 'Black Books' if you haven't already. It's a criminally underrated series created by Graham Linehan and Dylan Moran. It ran from 2000-2004ish and it's very similar to the IT crowd. I personally prefer it but they're both brilliant.
The PC brigade complained about this and other things until it was pointed out the shows producer, Ash Atalla is disabled, in a wheelchair and Middle Eastern.
I think the joke that killed me the hardest throughout the entire series was Jen turning to the bar to see Moss
everything about the lead up, to his expression, it's all just wonderful.
then they just order a drink as if nothing is happening 🤣🤣!!! i just cant with that moment! 💀
I think one of the best parts of that was how much time on Roy's plot and moss just had the little setup and now you are suddenly back to the payoff
I agree, that moment was the stand out funny in the whole series and that is saying alot.
I think IT Crowd definitely mastered the setup and payoff of jokes, I mean the entire window cleaner plot with Roy led up to the operating system joke.
Also really like your editing style it has a lot of potential, hope this channel gets more attention.

Absolutely fantastic video. This is 100% my favourite show of all time and it's glad to see someone talking about it. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much, if you liked it I have some other videos you could check out
This video has such quality editing and is significantly underrated.
Thank you very much!!!
I loved the show and your essay 😊 PS: I just watched The Final Countdown episode... OMG, that last line got me laughing so hard!
Of all the comedies ive ever watched IT Crowd is the best! You nailed it
I can watch any episode over and over. If I had to pick a favorite it would be Friendface one.
I love that episode, especially when Moss pretends to be a tennis player that doesn’t go to Wimbledon 💀
I like the episode when Jen "died". She "died" completely.
-Have you tried turning it on and off again?
-Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
-I am disabled.
-I am not a window cleaner.
-Kissing the widow at the funeral while insisting on handing her a pen.
-Thank you my love (said to a judge while in session)
-Faaaaaatheeeeeer! !! (Entering a funeral)

Wow that was a phenomenal video man! That's crazy how good it is for your first
Ahhhh Soo good. I love your passion for the show because I've loved it Soo so so so much for years. Me and my wife have watched it seriously atleast 15 times all the way through. Great job on this mate
Thank you so much… sorry again for the late reply!!! Thank you for sharing my passion man!!! And waiting 8 months for me to get back to you :)
Graham Linehan is truly a master of comedy writing. No one else even comes close. I can watch his shows over and over and crease up every time. his choice of brilliant comedy actors is always spot on too.
He is just very talented. This show remains next level! I need to check out some of his other stuff!
as much as i love IT crowd, praising graham is weird subject cause he’s a major POS irl being crazy transphobic and spreading a lot of hate, but some of the media he’s created is hilarious
10:10 I'm home alone and you scared the s**t outta me, I literally thought someone was knocking on my window at 3 am, almost felt like Bill Crouse
Sorry man 😂😂
Such an amazing video! I don't know how I only found your channel today.
As you are a world famous detective I believe you should tell me... unless you just mis-spelt “her cute parrot” as “Hercule Poirot”
The editing on this video is immaculate! You did a great job, makes me want to do something similar to this :)
Yeh go for it man, I must warn you they take longer than you might think, but I had great fun making these ones and will be making more in future!!!
I have waited so long for a video like this! thank you!
You are very welcome
This video is absolutely stunning! You’re so funny and talented.
@@NateGate to answer your questions:
4). Whaaaat? Me? Sarcastic? NEVER!
5). Well, my grandpa is Russian, so I guess I’ll ask him. Okay, he said capitalists’ tears.
In all seriousness, my comment was actually sincere. I subscribed immediately, you’re so insightful and manage to be informational and funny at the same time. Amazing job, truthfully.
PS: If I missed any references in your questions, I’m so very sorry.
PPS: how old are you? You said in the comments of your other video you were taking your A-levels, but you seem more mature. Just curious.
@@Mariasantacruz2005 I genuinely don’t think I have ever laughed harder at the “capitalist tears” bit, that was honestly hilarious, and thank you. No joke this is so nice and really motivates me to make more in future.
@@Mariasantacruz2005 and I’m 17 about to turn 18
@@NateGate please do, I watched your other videos, and they are so good! You are really talented!
Never thought I'd meet as HUGE a fan of the show as me until now ,and this is coming from someone who knows as much about computers as Jen does
Thanks for showing the brilliance of this underrated show ❤️
i'm so glad i stumbled across this video. Very well made!
That’s really kind of you!!!! The TH-cam algorithm is tough some times! Just put a new video out if you want to check that out :(
I meant for that to be a smiley face :) 😅😂
sick vid mate! u defo should've blown up after dis video..even better than most of the tv show/movie review
Thank you very much!!! To be honest though I’m just happy people like the videos and I can talk to them about it
This show was like Police Squad... but last 3 seasons more , nice video and i'm gonna subscribe
Glad you enjoyed it
It is a great show, rewatching it now again. Thank you.
How does this guy not even have 1000 subs. This is so good
Thank you!!!! I’m trying to get there!!! Just put a new video out if you are interested. Sorry for the super late reply BTW. I will be better in future
Why this video has only 12k visual? This is the type of high quality video with 1.5 million views you find at 2 AM, there is something wrong about this
Thank you so much man that is really kind, most of these views came in like 1 random week, and right now I’m getting like 1 view every 6 days but thank you so much for the support. People have been very kind. You included

I don't know if you'll see this but I hope this apparent uptick in algorithm favourability spurs you on to make more videos. I really enjoyed this for your viewpoint, your editing and your delivery. You've really got something here. This is the first video of yours I've watched and went to see if you've done more while seeing you haven't uploaded in a while, I understand life gets in the way (and it's a hobby, so no entitlement here) but I have to say I enjoyed this very much. Thanks
I should have said but didn't; I'm going to check your videos that interest me after this one. The most recent video I've seen that somewhat interests me is the Dr Who one, I don't care about the show but I look forward to watching it
Thank you very much, that is extremely kind of you, this video really took off about 6 months ago but now I get a view every few days, I really enjoy making videos and do want to continue. I went full time for a couple of months but then stopped, I couldn’t really say why. As long as I can entertain people I enjoy the work but they take a lot of effort!!! I really hope you like the rest of my videos :) it’s people like you that make me want to make more so genuinely thank you 😊

Thank you man this is one of the nicest comments I’ve ever gotten (granted that’s not saying much) but still thank you for leaving me with a smile on my face, and yes my dream has always been to join the basket ball greats... I don’t know how you think I’m going to do that making TH-cam videos but I’ll try!!!
This was brilliant, thanks for putting it together.

I love the scene leading up to the 'dinner party' at Jens place, then the dinner party itself. So funny, so perfect. Its my favorite as I've been in dinner parties where some of these scenarios HAPPENED!
I... just can't agree more. I've enjoyed it so much.
Now i have to rewatch it. With kids.
Excellent video. This is my all time favourite show!

Another good British underrated show: the mighty boosh.
Just to add to your list.
“There’s somebody at the door, there’s somebody at the door! 🎵 “
God, Matt Berry is a genius.
Flew totally under the radar but was brilliant
P.s. the only real comparison for IT Crowd is Father Ted. Also written by lineham
Jen was the best.
Thanks for the video, just subscribed. ❤
Thanks for the comment, just liked 😊😊
One correction, Jeff from Community is not a straight man. He kind of starts off that way but then becomes just as weird and as flawed as the rest of the study group.
Yeh I agree, in a similar way to how I talked about Jen in the video, but now I think of it most straight men in sitcoms end up like that
My favourite comedy show of all time. Just like Black Books, it deserves a much more hype than what it got.

Great video I have just subscribed and just here to say that even the Britan jokes stick at least inside the eu. :)
Good to know, and thank you!!! If you liked this one you would probably like my other, i just uploaded a new one last week :)
This is genius
Nate, this is brilliant! Just like the show. Nice job.
Thank you very much
something i find really cool about the IT crowd is that the show is so ridiculous that it almost makes the viewer the "straight man". the laugh track often occurs after something weird happens and all the characters never react to it the way that the audience reacts to it because they don't view it as weird. it really adds to the hilarity, as it lets the show go off the walls while being subconsciously aware of it's own craziness
:) Subscribed :D I would love to hear your thoughts on Garth Merenghi's Dark Place as I adore that show too just as much
Seriously thank you man. And yes I love darkest place, it’s been a while since I have seen it but it’s just classic!!
Hey you should check out my new video!!! Sorry for the shameless plug 😅😂
My favorite scene/joke is the gun, casually looks in drawer, "Oh look a gun."
Second has to be the fire extinguisher catching on fire, because it was made in Britain.
"I wonder if it's loaded???" *fires gun into mouth. 🤣😂
Yeh I think his involvement was tiny, especially because his name was removed
I’m so glad I got this recommendation now
Me too buddy..... me too
I. Will. Now. Watch. This. Show.
NOW!
As you commanded.
Goal achieved
Ohhhh ...i thought you meant the American remake. I prefer that one. Nailed it.
This perfectly sums up why I love this show so much, it’s such a shame my friend was turned off by the laughter in the preview before giving it a chance because I’m sure they’d love it too
Yeh, originally I had a whole section devoted to the laugh track but the video was too long, keep trying to get your friend into it!!
@@NateGate they told me it sounded good when I described some of the scenes to them so I’m gonna remind them of that often, but yeah hopefully I’ll succeeded
I'd say they'd love Peep Show then
@@Monkeypole I started watching that myself the other day actually! I’ll have to ask them if they’ve seen it
this show was my gateway to British Comedy and pretty much helped form my sense of humour. The Mighty Boosh, Luxury Comedy, What We Do In The Shadows, The Inbetweeners, Bottom and Garth Marenghi's Dark Place are some of my favorite British comedies. Curb Your Enthusiasm is probably the only American sitcom I find funny.
You earned that sub.
You earned that like my friend
Hey you should check out my new video!!! Sorry for the shameless plug 😅😂
Definitely one of my favorite shows of all time but how dare you not talk about the actual greatest episode “work outing”
Please accept my sincere apologies. It is my 2nd favourite episode but the video was already pretty long and I couldn’t justify another ultra deep dive into another episode.
@@NateGate no worries I’m just happy more people are talking about the show
@@NateGate In the real of nerdy TV show videos, that would've been very justified a move
Maybe do a separate video dissecting it and why It's genius
The entire original crew should bring this show back for another season, or a MOVIE!
I don't speak German and it's pretty bad from what I've seen. The way they did Richmond was all wrong!
This is awesome thank you. Have you done anything similar with another classic by Graham Linehan Father Ted? If not could you 🤞
your welcome. Work outting and Dinner party were really great
I 100% agree with you! The bit in dinner party with the woman who won’t stop repeating exactly what’s going on 🤣😂 “look at us… talking”
You should check out 'Black Books' if you haven't already. It's a criminally underrated series created by Graham Linehan and Dylan Moran. It ran from 2000-2004ish and it's very similar to the IT crowd. I personally prefer it but they're both brilliant.
My favorite episode will always be The Work Outing........"I'm Disabled"...............always makes me laugh so damn hard.
Such a banger!!!
Still laughing just remembering it 😂
@Ted Leather what kind of disabled?
The PC brigade complained about this and other things until it was pointed out the shows producer, Ash Atalla is disabled, in a wheelchair and Middle Eastern.
