A Samurai Defeats Stuttering Stereotypes in Cinema
This video essay discusses the portrayal of Takayoshi, a minor character who stutters in the Netflix animated series Blue Eye Samurai. "Safely processing" by proxy the experience of death or disaster from the security of a theater seat provides us tools we can use to cope when reality catches up with us and we must face it in person. These experiences allow us to rehearse our own responses to traumatic events--the recovery from which releases endorphins in the brain that make us feel reassured that we *can* deal with life's tragedies.

I never even realised Takayoshi stutters until I watched this video. As someone who stutters alot when I am scared, I feel represented. I'd be nice if we get a homosexual character in the new season. I am curious how they were treated back then in Edo Japan.

It sounds like a few other people in the comments have already stated this, but I always interpreted Shoshonna's choice of English at the end of the movie to be a direct call back to Landa speaking English at the start of the movie. Just as her family died scared and confused, unable to understand the language being spoken, so too does the audience of German-speaking Nazis die as an Angry, English speech blares over their speakers

The books are great for this reason! 'Agency' - fantastic. I also love Gibson's 'Neuromancer' - really old, but a grandfather to all the rest. World building and dialogue that now represents companies and tech in existence.

i honestly dont like this show to anybody who enjoyed it, im happy For you but at least realize this Show is far from good quality & is awful in making good Characters especially women They are mostly mouthpeices For "the message" & act nothing Like women in edo japan would act in that time period, the show is modernized & is 1-sided with saying women are the only one Wronged by history pitting men & Women against each other By making them 1-note villains Who say cringe, like akemi's dad "You breath cause i allow it" i almost died with Cringe Hearing that bs.

I don't know who the idiot was that Gilbered so long on his contemporary concept of what he thought this movie was. But he's an idiot, it was a fantastically great show that opened up your ideology of life to the truth of what it is that each and every one of us is just wandering through this planet there's so many lives out here that we don't even understand what's going on

I think the inconsistencies of what component appears in a logogram is interesting. If we just accept that inconsistency as that’s the design, then ‘mom’ has ‘heptapod’ while ‘child’ has ‘solve’ might indicate they have different process or ritual or just connotation of reproduction than us

The writing in this story is boss level, I enjoy the entire dialogue of this story like sipping a fine wine... the nuances, the folksiness of it, th research of expressions and demeanor people of the era had, and yes even before I saw this video I caught all of the subtle hints in dialogue and conversation that would reference future events in the plot... Ive gone back to watch TBOBS and toggled straight to "The Gal Who Got Rattled" to just watch that story... and dang it every time it reaches the end where the final shot blends with the book art with the caption "Mr. Arthur had no idea what he would say to Billy Knapp." I always find myself teary eyed... every darn time. One of my favorite westerns.

The main thing I took away from Buster's story is that no matter how good you think you are, and even actually are, that every day some new kid might come along who doesn't have your reputation, but has just a good or even better skills/talent and the advantage of youth on his side.

I noticed quite right away that there was a themes that followed. Then when I later watched the first short again it is kinda sung when Buster goes to the heaven on what it's all partly about Even tho Buster is likable, he can be put into the same pot with the two outlaws since.. Buster is one. He kills for a sport. He still does have some morals so he is a bit of a mix of the 2 of 2 differend pairings. Also I have to say that the orator and woman have the same similarity of there being and aspect of being an object. The Neeson's character keeps the orator as long as he is more profitable than work and she is essentially a bride whose decided who she will marry. Often these marriages being made based on money and such things.

Buster Scruggs was the best story of the six. It was all downhill after that. The second one was pretty good too, but the rest... Well.. The third one was just depressing and creepy. The 4th really had no point. The 5th was kind of annoying and drawn out and because of the ending, literally pointless to watch. The last one I didn't really like as it was just trying to make you guess the plot twist and shoved that in your face hard. I did enjoy them dragging the body up the stairs though that was kind of funny.
