Yes! As a linguist I have always loved how much Eggers tried so much to make the language accurate to its time period. I already love his movies but that's a nice extra treat for me :)
Good video about the man I think is the most interesting filmmaker working today. The language in the VVitch is really fantastic- something I really appreciated about the film. I'm descended from a couple of the Governors of the Massachusetts Bay colony & I think very few Americans understand just how much those people were terribly intolerant religious fanatics. I loved the Lighthouse - everything about it. I wish more filmmakers would try for Eggers level of realism.

I hadn’t noticed, but I’ve only seen it once. It’s probably time for a closer rewatch. It could have something to do with the reveal that he’s stolen a man’s identity? Or maybe it goes along with the idea that he is slowing becoming Defoe’s character (if his accent becomes more like Defoe’s). I’ll have to investigate!

This was really fascinating. Those moments in The Northman where they use proper pronunciation and old languages really stuck out to me and helped me feel so immersed. It's like the inverse effect of when aliens in sci-fi movies have British accents to make them seem like they are from far away. There are other examples that all come with a similar effect. And to hear how Eggers uses language from someone who knows and loves linguistics like yourself is really nice. Keep up the good work!
