    I’ve got the J2S, going to get the J3 or dayzee soon. When I ordered my J2, I made a few adjustments with opamps and color. This company is great. They make you feel like you’re their most important customer. If every company on the planet did business like geshelli, life would be soooo much better. Also, great video. Your presentation was clean, easy to understand and informative. Thx!

    I love the top of the line Sparkos SS2590 op-amp - it has incredibly clean and neutral tonal balance, and wonderful dynamics. A "3D" soundstage with layering that is second to none, in my opinion. I have owned the Geshelli J2, J2S (with two different AKM chips) and now the Dayzee. Using an improved power supply (I have a linear power supply) and upgraded to the SS2590 op-amps - it is the best DAC I have heard.

    Great Vid. Good Job! Just a quick question, before you connected an external DAC and noticed the sonic differences, did you allow the onboard ESS to "Burn-In" Did the sound of the stock ultra improve with hours of use or did you simply make your original observations and changeout to external?

    • @Potato_Fi
      @Potato_Fi วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes I did for about a month. Infact, most of the times I use the Wiim with no external DAC. (Too many wires). I did not find change in sound even after after 30 days of using internal DAC.

    After hearing sound comparisons of the RP-600m's and RP-600mIIs, I do like the high end better on the originals. The MKII's sound a bit more muffled on the high end. However, with the MKII's you also don't have the hole in the frequency response at 1.5k, which is a known flaw of the original's. I agree with the OP that the high end on the Klipsch (either model) does get fatiguing after a while. I had found that a better choice over these speakers for something similarly sized and priced, would be the KEF Q-350's. I absolutely LOVE these. They are amazing. They have far better sound stage and imaging over the Klipsch speakers. Also, the concentric drivers mean you will have a more usable listening space as moving around the speakers doesn't affect the imaging as much as with standard, separate woofers and tweeters.

    About a year and a half ago I started out with their stock J2 with a beautiful Purple Wood case. But they recently upgraded it for me with the AKM4499 board and chipset. Plus I upgraded to the Sparkos SS3602 op-amp. It's an amazing transformation in sound. It blew away the Topping D70 Pro Octo that had temporarily replaced my stock J2. There was no J3 or J2s when I bought my J2.. that's why I did all the upgrades.

    I ended up buying these as I wasn't happy with my purchase of the Klipsch RP-600m. That speaker, sadly has some issues, namely a big hole in the midrange response. While I had known of KEF and was turned on about their concentric drivers, I had noticed that the popular LS line just seemed way overpriced. Then I had noticed the Q-line and the Q-350 stood out for me. While still expensive at the $719 price I seen them listed on Amazon, I was told (before watching this review) that they do go on sale from time to time. Over the summer, this happened and I managed to snatch them up for $500! When I got them, at first I was a bit disappointed because the high end sounded very dull. I had to ramp the treble control up all the way to get it to equal the high end output of the Klipsch with the treble on '0'. Now, I know they do talk about speaker break in periods, but I figured that was more for a woofer, and not applied to tweeters. Also, I was initially doing side by side comparisons with having one channel the RP-600m on it and the other the Q-350. At first it seemed as if the RP-600m's had a brighter high end, but of course, I didn't get a good idea of imaging this way. So, I hooked up the other Q-350 and that was when the magic happened. The soundstage and imaging was WOW! FAR better than the RP-600m. At first the bass response was better on the Klipsch, but over time I had noticed that some songs the bass response on the Q-350's got even deeper. So to quote the low end cut off figure on the Q-350's to be 63hz is VERY generous because the Klipsch (supposedly) goes down to 45hz. Over time I had even brought the treble control down to a more reasonable +2 to +3 instead of ramming it up all the way. Now, I absolutely love them! Recently I had managed to find some test data on the Q-350 in comparison to the LS-50 (meta), what shocked me was that, the LS-50meta is only marginally flatter at best. To say that it is a 30% better is really stretching it. It is more like 7%-10%. Keep in mind now too, the Q-350 has a 6.5" woofer as opposed to the 5.25" woofer of the LS-50meta. The latter which is around a $1500 speaker and it begs me to ask the question as to why this speaker costs 3 times more. Yes, it has a cast frame speaker as opposed to a stamped frame, Yes the box bracing is a bit better, but is it worth 3x more? To me, that is a resounding, "NO!" In the past KEF was always known to have a great sounding speaker for a moderate cost, but lately, I have seen some of their speakers starting to shoot to the stratosphere with one model costing $10k. That's ridiculous. I don't even spend that for a WHOLE system, let alone one component. This has me wondering if KEF is starting to head down the road of becoming a "troll" company like so many high end companies have done over the years. The asking price of the LS-50 (metas) is definitely not worth it, especially (as mentioned) you need a subwoofer. For the near field listening I do, the Q-350s are fine on their own. Overall, I had been reading very good things about the Q-line in general and there are many that even prefer them over the LS line. With KEFs asking price on that line, is there any reason why. In a nutshell, I HIGHLY recommend the KEF-Q350s and for those looking for something smaller, the Q-150's come in at a nice price level too. However, I have not personally heard those as I went right for the Q-350s.

    Thanks for your review. I recently purchased the WiiM Ultra. I think it's a great device for the price, but I agree with you that the internal DAC is not the best. I compared the internal DAC of the WiiM Ultra with CD transport connected the an external DAC (SMSL SU-1) and it sounded much better than the WiiM Ultra. I was really surprised since I was playing hi-res Tidal tracks on the WiiM Ultra. I was thinking that there is no way CD's should sound better than hi-res audio. I'm going to connect the WiiM to the external DAC and listen for any improvement. I'm not saying the WiiM internal DAC is bad, I'm just expecting it to sound better than a CD transport connected to an external DAC. Keep up the good work.

    I have the CA-1 and can attest that this review/opinion of the NP-1 fits the CA-1 too. You may find your previous amp sounding a bit muffled in comparison as the VA has excellent clarity and separation. As a sidenote, I was surprised that my smallest amp, a Keces E40 could keep pace and also sounded better in regards to separation of instruments to my larger, more expensive amp. The Keces was a bit more rounded as to the mids and highs, not quite the level of clarity of the CA-1 but not that far behind. These are low powered amps and among many others, represent class leading value for what they are intended for as to SQ. IMO of course. Matching with source and speakers is important due to the limitation of power output when many look for amps of 150 watts or more. I would be interested in how much peak current the NP-1 is capable of.
