I have the CA-1 and can attest that this review/opinion of the NP-1 fits the CA-1 too. You may find your previous amp sounding a bit muffled in comparison as the VA has excellent clarity and separation. As a sidenote, I was surprised that my smallest amp, a Keces E40 could keep pace and also sounded better in regards to separation of instruments to my larger, more expensive amp. The Keces was a bit more rounded as to the mids and highs, not quite the level of clarity of the CA-1 but not that far behind. These are low powered amps and among many others, represent class leading value for what they are intended for as to SQ. IMO of course. Matching with source and speakers is important due to the limitation of power output when many look for amps of 150 watts or more. I would be interested in how much peak current the NP-1 is capable of.
Thank you for the photo of inside the chassis - the output devices appear to be chips i.e. they contain the output transistors and higher current devices on the chips. Interestingly there are 3 output chips per channel; not the expected 2 or 4 per channel.
As I was thinking about this - it may be that the first stage is using each channel on 1 of the chips, and then the other 2 chips has their channels used in parallel, as the output stage?
Thank you for a very nice review of the AVA NP1. I value your listening impressions with multiple speakers and comparison to similarly classed amplifiers like the Arcam.
Great review. Really liked your personal choices in setup and sharing how that works for you. Gear advice about changing streamers down the line! Insane tech wars there. Also loved your advice to reads the manual! Even if to get into the personality of a boutique brand 🙏🏼👍🏼
Nice review. I'm using a WiiM Ultra also. I know that my next purchase should be an amplifier only. I'll consider this based on your review. Is it a class A/B?
Couldn't find your Rel S812 on your footage. Do you still use it in your system? 🙃 And great review as always. Looking forward to watching your next one 🔥🐹🔥
@@Potato_FiThank you for this hint. Hadn't these on my screen. I have taken a deeper look into the new Abyss. Great functions AND a sealed system combined with high level inputs...ideal for stereo setups. Dear Potato Girl, I am hooked by the Abyss! Thank yooou 🔥🐹🔥
The NP1 is rated to drive 4 ohm (nominal) loads and up. This makes it compatible with most Magepans. Whether 85WPC (into 4 ohms) will generate the levels someone wants with Maggies depends on the user. With typical recordings in a typical room, peak levels in excess of 100dB should be possible.
Thanks for the overview and review! This is now on my radar to try as a lower power solid state option.
Looks like a nice, well built amplifier. It would be nice to have had balanced XLR options as well. JMO

I wonder if it’s a gainclone LM3886 chip amp.
@seanb3303 it looks like it could be?
@@NeilBlanchard i don’t know of any other class ab chip amp that can deliver 50 watts

I no longer have the Rel. I have to get rid of stuff because of limited space. However, i'm considering the new Martin Logan Abyss- maybe for Xmas!

JLA cr-1 active crossover
Tried high-level inputs
Found it gain aggressive @ramlord6669
Won't power Magnepans 😮
It's generally underpowered for the price, since you can get superb 2x500W Hypex or Purifi poweramps for the same.
