Great review young lady! It's good to see young people getting involved in Hi Fi. Keep the videos coming! I use a Wiim Mini with a Schiit DAC and I'm very happy.
I hope Wiim listen to your constructive comments and apply them to the next iteration. Love the FunFi SMSL mini review and suggestions. Fantastic review!
Great Vid. Good Job! Just a quick question, before you connected an external DAC and noticed the sonic differences, did you allow the onboard ESS to "Burn-In" Did the sound of the stock ultra improve with hours of use or did you simply make your original observations and changeout to external?
Yes I did for about a month. Infact, most of the times I use the Wiim with no external DAC. (Too many wires). I did not find change in sound even after after 30 days of using internal DAC.
@burton7023 I eventually bought one for my bedroom. It's actually good for the price. I see it's value to the marketplace and it's price is for what it is.
Thanks for the review. I was curious how the WiiM sounded. Wondering about the new Bluesound Nano too. I want to add a streamer. Your words and time are appreciated.
Thanks for the review and the honesty portrayed. I have to admit though, that I'd wish a bit more concentration on the room correction mode, which is, after all, the new gimmic that WiiM brings to the fore.
Thanks for your review. I recently purchased the WiiM Ultra. I think it's a great device for the price, but I agree with you that the internal DAC is not the best. I compared the internal DAC of the WiiM Ultra with CD transport connected the an external DAC (SMSL SU-1) and it sounded much better than the WiiM Ultra. I was really surprised since I was playing hi-res Tidal tracks on the WiiM Ultra. I was thinking that there is no way CD's should sound better than hi-res audio. I'm going to connect the WiiM to the external DAC and listen for any improvement. I'm not saying the WiiM internal DAC is bad, I'm just expecting it to sound better than a CD transport connected to an external DAC. Keep up the good work.
Happy to see your content again, I was one of your very early subscribers and it seemed like your channel just disappeared and I have missed your reviews!
I'm hearing nothing but bliss from this little unit. I trip out how reviews go for more than half a video sounding like their hating on a product then, I love this thing. 😐
I almost got the first comment in lol.. Great review, I ordered this to connect to an external DAC (Orchard Audio Pecan Pi+) for tv sound, then I use Roon from a Mac Mini direct to the Orchard Audio. I liked the Wiim because it had coax digital out, so I didn't have to use a cheap toslink dongle, then also saw the Wiim had bluetooth out for headphones so I figured ok this is reasonable enough, clean up the TV sound and get headphone support too.. But only one output on audio at a time so back this goes.. For clarity the Orchard Audio is killing everything in its path. Especially when you use it direct with Roon for Tidal. I saw you had a video about the KEF R3 Metas- I auditioned them and they were great but could not nudge out my Sonus Faber Amator Lumina IIs. Very powerful and clear, there was just something not alive as much with them. Love your videos, you have this knack for explaining detail but very clear and very much without superlatives. Keep making videos and love your system btw...
Everyone seems to want all-in-one solutions from companies that do 1 thing really well. WIIM does streaming extremely well in my opinion. Everything else, I'd wait a few years until the products mature and check back.
Well, hello my friend, great to see you back! I have been wondering what happened to you. I like your acoustic panels, they look very good in the floor standing version. Very nicely done review, as always. Like number 10 from me. Best wishes and happy listening from Scotland. Jim🏴🙂
Hi. Thanks for your review. How the dac in Wiim Ultra compares to a dac in Arcam SA20? What sounds better- wiim ultra via its analogue output or wiim pro connected to a digital input of SA20?
Modern transparent DACs (over 100dB SINAD and implemented technically to the specifications) sounding different, almost invariably according to the price tag, is same kind of myth as certain kind of audio grade or vintage etc. capacitors sounding superior to others. If a reviewer cannot prove their claims by a blind ABX test then they are just talking out of their ears (euphemistic pun intended).
@@outolempinimi5165 According to Audiosciencereview who have tested it, this thing has SINAD of 115 and fits snugly in the top tier of DAC devices in their list. I have mine connected to the power amp input of a newly bought Audiolab 9000A box, driving my six year old KEF R900 speakers, and I love the sound I am getting. I'm working it that way because I am older and can use the graphic eq, just to lift the top end almost a couple of DB, and this makes all the difference. The 9000A has a DAC built in but no EQ whatsover, so I prefer the Wiim ultra as a preamp/DAC. I did an AB test with my now reduntant Cambridge Audio Dacmagic with an optical splitter and could not hear any difference at all. My bet is that my younger self wouldn't have either. The Wiim's EQ was switched off of course.

I enjoy your no-nonsense approach to reviewing! Kudos to ya!
Can you compare the wiim ultra as a streamer only vs eversolo using external dac for both?

Thank you for spending the time to make such a well produced and thoughtful review!
Thanks for being so real about this over hyped product.
What's over hype for it's price
@burton7023 I eventually bought one for my bedroom. It's actually good for the price. I see it's value to the marketplace and it's price is for what it is.
Totally agree with needing a power button on the app. I was having connectivity stability issues when streaming from wifi to the unit also.
Great review! Are you using it with WIFI? I plan on using my SMSL VMV DAC with the Ultra, so I'm excited to hear the setup.
Thank You. I use WiFi.

I just bought one, I guess I'll find out how good it is.
I'm very pleased with it, for the money its a great deal and I love the EQ

Thank you for the feedback. Im thinking about getting the Sonus Faber Sonetto I G2.
BS Node N130 is very versatile 😊
Love me some Potato Fi HiFi Reviews!
Nicely done

Wiim's DAC sounds better than Arcam's DAC via analogue.
I had the Ultra for a week. I did not like how it make voices sound. I just ordered a bluesound nano instead.
I have the same G class Arcam
Haiiiiiiiiiiii
well, get your facts in check first, before uploading a review. The room correction works with android as well, for the last three weeks, minimum.
Appreciate the feedback. Will note in the description.
LOL another audiophool with golden ears pretending to hear what a bitperfect dac sounds like 😅😂🤣

Thank you for the compliment!
