"Backfishing" is going to be videos about coming full circle. I was an avid bank fisherman in my younger days but now re-learning new techniques in the different fisheries. Please join me on solo journeys or adventures with friends. I've realized having experiences and adventures is large part of living life. I look forward to sunsets, nature, fishing and enjoying the process of learning which I'm willing to share to viewers. Thank you to all the TH-camrs from the Bay Area and Northwest fishing channels. You all have inspired me to do what I missed most. You guys are awesome! Continued success to you all. Life's hustle and bustle take us away from what we enjoy most. Get out there and do you. Salamat, Mahalos, and Thank you.
Simple: How to tie 2 hook setup for Plunking the Columbia River
I have used treble hooks for plunking the prior year but find the 2 hook system more convenient and favorable. I show in this video how I do my simple setup. You may fall in love with this setup if you give it a try.

How to fish for Ulua and Omilu Island Style, "The Wall" at Waikiki beach, Hawaii
มุมมอง 27K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
I just had breakfast feeling good about the previous day catching the trumpet fish. Ready to go fishing and greet the day. I made my way to "The Wall" in Waikiki and to my surprise a local fisherman was fighting a big Omilu. This was the first time I've ever seen a bluefin trevally live which can get to 20 - 30 pounds. They are fast moving and predatory fish who are more active in early morning...

For those people that may want to fish here, you are NOT allowed to fish from straight out from walls towards the Natatorium. That is closed permanently, so even if you hook up to a fish, It must not bite from the Diamond Head side of Walls, you can only bring it up on the Ewa side towards the Duke Kahanamoku Statue. The guy shooting this video should have held the line and fish, till the fisherman, released line while cameraman held fish there, and Paul went on the beach towards Ewa and pulled the 'omilu from an angle through the opening. He's lucky the DLNR weren't there, they would confiscate this film as evidence, and then charge and fine Paul. Not sure what the amount would be.
thank you for sharing!
Glad someone is able to try it. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
And that’s why it’s called fishing and not catching
😎
Local kids used McDs trays since they came to the Islands.I'm 56 and used it small kid time.
🤙🏽🤙🏽
great underwater video, barely see it from other youtubers. How far did your gopro from bank?
10 feet out, just dangled camera on the tip of the pole.
Paul is the number 1 guy always catching papio or ulua at this spot. Also catches some great waves too !
Braddah Paul good guy! 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Please refer to the DLNR Regulated Fishing Areas on Oahu webpage. No fishing in Waikiki MLCD at Anytime! See their map. The Waikīkī Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD) extends from the groin at Kapahulu Avenue(east side of Waikiki Walls) to the ewa wall of the Waikīkī War Memorial Natatorium. Do not confuse this area with The Waikīkī-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area (from Natatorium to Lighthouse) that allows fishing on even numbered years.
Odd an even years apply ahi point 💯 you straight illegal Braddah 🤣💯
How the sunscreen taste 🤣🤣🤣
That a cool fish spot with sink and running water , wish we had one of this in the east.
Awesome day when you get to see fish on the bank 👍
Good seeing out there Vu!
@@BackFishing yeah you too man. You’re doing good out there
What state did you fishing? And Which River?
Oregon. Willamette River and the biggest run is on the Columbia River Bonneville Dam.
Thank you!!! Nice video 👍👍👍
Aloha, my husband and I just found your videos! So awesome, just subscribed... Didn't even know you could catch crab like that😲 We're planning a quick trip in either Aug/Sept... Last year we crabbed at Brighton Marina by boat which was Really fun! We'd love to try gathering in an estuary! What bay would you recommend we try our luck?
Tillamook Bay and bay south of that. Low tide is key. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
don't work for standard dart or jig-tail here spot?
Awesome work! Thanks for the tutorial.
Always appreciate the comment. Thank you.
Great tutorial. Thank you.
Appreciate the comment. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
It's shad season again!! Great fun and good times up there :) my best day for shad was up there when I landed 153 shad in just over 3.5 hours a few years ago. Absolutely insane fun! :)
Crazy action.
Whay brand of rods are you using? I can't fined rods like you are using anywhere
Rainshadow I got on Offerup. It is in the description (Baton Enterprises in WA). I just got lucky. Look into Cabela's and other big stores. Okuma I believe makes SST 12' rods. Anything for sturgeon. You will be casting out 8 oz - 12 oz. of weight. Hope that helps. GL
@BackFishing I've been looking for the sst 12'3 but I may need to order it just always see guys out there with 13 ft rods with long handles
@@charlescook94 Most of them put extension on the butt end of the rod.
@BackFishing good to know unfortunatelyi dont have the luxury to have enoigh soace to customize my rods at the moment, but hey It was nice seeing you in the OC fishermans btw sure was a pretty nice hen you brought in. hope to see a video soon on that catch
@@charlescook94 Like wise. GL
How tight or loose should the drag be when ur just waiting for the fish to bite the hook
Just enough were the fish does not snap your line but tight enough so when you go to set the hook the drag stays put. Hope that answers your question.
Anyone know where this would be? Ive been snaring and using rings, only 2 this year so far just a little over 5 3/4 i just want 3 damn big ones i dont need alot tired of not getting any crab after 6 hrs of sitting.
Hi I was the kid in the video
Tight lines. I was impressed of your casting.
@@BackFishing thanks I love fishing I live in Belmont and just now I have started leopard shark fishing and it is super fun just last week I caught 9 sharks and a eagle bat ray in 3 hours
@@corgicuber8581 That is awesome. Lots of sharks and rays in the bay. San Mateo Bridge and Coyote Point were good spots for me. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
I’m glad to see I can find worms here in CA
Glad to share what I came across. GL
Looks like a very fishy rig.👍🏻

Thanks for the comment. Appreciate the encouragement. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Cool thx for showing us a tuna ball literally just tuna wrapped up really love to catch a fish
My pleasure...glad to share.
Nice job, Hale.
Thanks Tom. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks for the setup guide. I was always curious about the plunking setup but dont have rods for that yet haha. Not too far off otherwise on the bottom from my buzzbomb rig in the puget sound since we can use 2 barbless hooks for salmon in the salt up here.
Great how to thank you very much😊 hope you're catching some fish
I've had a great season so far. Thank you. Springers are saved in the freezer for a later date. LOL
Thank you for the great video I’ll do the same setup see I get good results
Hope you have some luck out there. Tight lines!
I saw a pacific sunfish off the pier there a few years ago. Fun pier when it's not shoulder to shoulder
I wouldn't doubt it. I may have seen one as a teenager out there too.
Do spin glows actually play a big factor when plunking? New to salmon/steelhead fishing trying to get my first one this year
From what I know going the last 4 seasons color and vibration of the spin n glo attract the salmon to strike. It maybe the combo of the scent of tuna ball, tuna belly attached as well. You have til 6-15-24 for Springers on the Columbia R. Just check ODFW and WDFW for extensions on the seasons Good Luck. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@BackFishing thanks for the response! Haven’t had time for springers but waiting for sockeye run right now
We are supposed to kill the small mouth bass that we catch in the river
Never heard that but Pike Minnow for sure.
Yeah the Coquille river is full off small mouth bass that are causing problems for salmon and stealhead they eat eggs and smelt sadly the Coquille river is geting pretty bad they are destroying the system. They make good tocos 😊
Can we download the pattern somewhere?
The pattern is in this video. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions you may have. GL
which part of the river is it? how to get here? or what city
Jon Strom Park, Oregon City. As of 6/3 the counts have been lower at the Bonneville therefore fishing has been a bit spotty at the Park. It should improve here soon in the next week or so.
the pink could just be from the smoke. Shad is KILLER. tastes almost on par with salmon, but getting around the bones can be a hassle. there are a couple methods to remove the bones, but i wouldnt suggest those unless you're a surgeon lol. Hear you can cut them down to the spine and deep fry them to "fry out" the bones
Making slits across the body 1/4" apart is another way people to get around the bones. Then it's ready for the deep fryer.
Bait?
Shad dart
leeward side, shows banyans in waikiki haha. love the video
🤙🏽🤙🏽
Turn your music "off" if you like talking.
Thanks for the comment. Just started this channel back then. Hope was to share the idea.
I will b following u when i retire. Get choke fish big isle? I heard u guys laugh at our fishing. We catching oahu. Now, as u just explained. must b nutz
Wow I have never seen that many needlefish there before, I wish I was there that day. I wonder why so many of them gathered there.
I went there today and those were not needlefish but rather small ballyhoos. Also apparently you're not supposed to fish from there because there's a sign and the life guard asked us to leave.
Thanks for making the video., lots of good info
Thanks for the comment. Appreciate it!
I just tried to made one, and well; I guess I made the loop lines too long or its the memory that messes it up... (and I guess it too late for the "jacuzzi" treatment...) I least I got the bait box in a good way lol, just annoyed that I wasted Mono and sleeves on that attempt
If the line is not twisted, you can just dip the cage and loops quickly in hot water to make it springy again. It's worth a try.
Dude is a tweaker for sure
Do you make the loop so it faces the natural direction that it wants to retract back to? 5:13
Straighten the mono first in hot water to make sure it will become springy when you make the loop. Yes, usually go with the direction the loop wants to go.
I have crabbed off the docks in nehalem bay and lincoln city. Always walked off with at least 5. Nice sizes too….
Hey I Would Love To Learn How To Shad Fish I’m In The Portland Area. Do You Fish Solo?
Fishing should pick up in the Willamette R next 2 weeks. I usually go to Clackamas Park. You'll see people there and during the season you'll see me there. Come out in the evening starting 6 pm to 8pm. Usually most productive.
Niice Thank You Sir!! If I See You I’ll Be Sure To Say What’s Up! I’ll Definitely Be There! Appreciate That
Awesome!
Humm... Susan's pretty, and she goes fishing ❤

That's an idea. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
