    I saw you processing them at the end ! Please share how you cook and eat them. Always interested on how to utilize a great source of meat 🐟🐟👍

      I smoke them and then pressure cook them to soften the bones. They are great smoked but just have to deal with the bones. I should do more how to cook them. I agree, it is a great source of protein.

    It's shad season again!! Great fun and good times up there :) my best day for shad was up there when I landed 153 shad in just over 3.5 hours a few years ago. Absolutely insane fun! :)

      Even with the numbers still above 150k over the dam. It can be still challenging. Thanks for the comment. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

    WOW!
    Amazing!
    I stayed close to home. This morning I caught 4 shad in less than an hour and had to head back home to start the day. I'm hoping the bite will keep happening for another week. I know the counts are dropping but I hope to catch some more stragglers.
    I actually caught a 4" juvenile shad and a 6" small mouth bass, too! 🤣
    Great video.

      You and me both. Those are from last year's spawn and are probably on their way out to the ocean for 3 or 4 years until maturity.

    Nice video and thanks for the expertise. What pound test do you use for the leader and how lead weight ?

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use 10 lb braid line, leader 10 lb mono and 1 ounce pencil lead wt. On Bradford we let it sink about 5 seconds before retrieving slowly. Having braid allows me more options to cast far with the lighter line as oppose to monofilament. For Bonneville, sometimes the fish bite close but when they are far I would like that option. Hope that helps. Thanks.

    Loved the video. Im inspired to up my Chad game. I spent double the time on the river and caught half the # of fish. Had fun doing it but landing higher numbers would be the next step.
    I've tried most of the lures except for the chrome swivel with siwash hook. That thing seems effective. Where can I find them?

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Fisherman's, sportsman's, cabela's. Gamakatsu Siwash hooks size 8 and any chrome swivels 1/2" length. 🤙🏽🤙🏽

      @@m10_g0at If your close to Portland. Hit Clackamas Park across Fishermans Marine. Best times to fish are 7pm to 8:30 pm. Make sure you bring a rod that can cast 3/4 ounce at least 75 yds for better river drift. Catch rate is usually 1 fish every 10 min or so.

    Awesome fishing day. Do you know when the run of shad stop?

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say up to July 4th. They are at the dam. You should check the shad count, if there are 50k still going over. You should be able to get into them. Good luck.

    You two might not have caught the 100 you wanted, but it still looked like you had a blast. I actually just moved to Oregon, and I’m not too far from where you’ve been fishing. I’m trying to start fishing myself, but I don’t really know where to start. Do you have any recommendations on a good all-around starter rod for fishing in the Columbia River? I’d like to be able to catch Shad and Salmon with it.

    How you guys cook em?

    • @BackFishing
      @BackFishing  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are very bony but you can fry them. Make sure you make diagonal slices 1/4" inch apart towards spine the length of the body both sides then fry. Purpose is to cut through the 300 tiny bones. Other way, is to put whole fish is a slow cooker for 8 hours, tomato sauce and pineapple. Bones will soften like canned tuna or sardines. I also smoke and canned them. Here's a link th-cam.com/video/DLXkqodi29I/w-d-xo.html
