love fishing the wall!! just gotta watch what side you fish. facing the water to the left is a no go but anything to the right is fair game. called DLNR before to ask about bringing the fish up on the Daimond head side and they said it depends on the officer if one is present.
No fishing from Diamond Head side of the Wall to the Ewa Side of the Natatorium 500 yards out.. Try out front of the Sheraton for Omilu, used to see them a bunch when I was working there.
I was just curious about the fishing regulations according to DAR. Verbiage “Open to fishing” from January 1 to December 31 of even-numbered years. “Closed to fishing” from January 1 to December 31 of odd-numbered years. Permitted: To fish for, take or possess any legal size marine life in season during the “open to fishing” period, provided that only hook-and-line, thrownet, handnet to land hooked fish, and spear fishing and hand harvesting methods are employed. With a permit to engage in activities otherwise prohibited by law for scientific, propagation or other purposes. Anyone fishing in that area should call DAR to clarify on regulations as it may be confusing at times. Thanks for the comment. 🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@alexveniegas3012 correct. and from walls to natatorium it's no fishing allowed (waikiki marine life conservation district). on the ewa side of wall, fishing ok.
There are plenty of YT videos on Ulua fishing. Not too many caught on artificial. You may catch omilus or papios smaller trevallies on artificial flies/soft plastics with a clear bobber setup carolina rig or whipping rig as they call it in the islands. The favorite way to catch big ulua is dunking. This bait fishing with octopus late evening or early morning as it is the favorite times big GT feed. Good luck.
I went there today and those were not needlefish but rather small ballyhoos. Also apparently you're not supposed to fish from there because there's a sign and the life guard asked us to leave.
Actually the area bordered by the Natatorium to the Kapahulu jetty is never open to fishing. Only the area from the Natatorium to the Diamond Head Lighthouse is open on alternate years, even years being the open ones.
What time was that? the few times I've checked out that fishing spot always all kines of people (Nice location, mind sharing info on your accomadations?)
Please refer to the DLNR Regulated Fishing Areas on Oahu webpage. No fishing in Waikiki MLCD at Anytime! See their map. The Waikīkī Marine Life Conservation District (MLCD) extends from the groin at Kapahulu Avenue(east side of Waikiki Walls) to the ewa wall of the Waikīkī War Memorial Natatorium. Do not confuse this area with The Waikīkī-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area (from Natatorium to Lighthouse) that allows fishing on even numbered years.
Too many kinds of fish to catch in the ocean. Perhaps if I lived there I would try peacock bass and get the freshwater license. Thanks for the comment. Stay fishy and see you on the river.

For those people that may want to fish here, you are NOT allowed to fish from straight out from walls towards the Natatorium. That is closed permanently, so even if you hook up to a fish, It must not bite from the Diamond Head side of Walls, you can only bring it up on the Ewa side towards the Duke Kahanamoku Statue. The guy shooting this video should have held the line and fish, till the fisherman, released line while cameraman held fish there, and Paul went on the beach towards Ewa and pulled the 'omilu from an angle through the opening. He's lucky the DLNR weren't there, they would confiscate this film as evidence, and then charge and fine Paul. Not sure what the amount would be.
Idk how this guy gets away with fishing in closures. I know the tourists don’t know and it doesn’t affect them directly, but it sure does affect everyone else that lives here. Especially those of us who fish and choose to play by the rules.
You can on even number years as long as you fish straight or to the right of that wall. How he brought in that omilu was technically illegal though since it happened on the left side of the wall. But given the circumstance, the only safest way for him to land that fish was to do what he did and bring um in to the left side of the wall. So maybe DLNR gives him a pass there.
@@Otx2steezythe wall is the start of the preserve. No can fish from the wall to the far side of the Natatorium anytime.
