Strix Halo: The Beginning of the end for Discrete GPUs
while i agree that buying a 4090 can be a large waste of money, most people who are just using pcs for general use/gaming aren't going to buy a 4090 then go buy a 5090. Even if the 4090 will get beat by the 5000 counterpart, its still top of the line. In an era where there's a new gpu out every year and gpu's are getting stronger and more efficient, you don't need to buy a new one every year or even every couple years. Another thing that makes PC's seem so intimidating, is the amount of options. The reason that parts are so all over the place is because you can walk into a store and build a PC to your budget, most of the time without going over your budget. Yes, having a budget of $500 to spend on a pc is never going to be as good as spending $1500 on a pc, You have that option. Prebuilds help you get to those lower budgets easier and they are convenient, but that convenience most of the time comes up to a 100 to a few hundred dollar upcharge. I get SI's (System Integrators) have to make profit, they just don't have anyone telling them when enough is enough.
not a pro camera guy or anything but from experience, a full frame camera does the same job as long as you have enough light, as soon as you're in an environment that has lower light it falls appart so fast you have to crank up exposure or ISO which makes for blurry or noisy pictures (feel free to correct me below)
Cameras are easy. You just need to talk to people and read reviews.
I honestly had a hard time to build my own gaming rig. Took months and in the end, a powerful computer is a powerful computer. Buying a built pc, If it games and does work. That is all that matters to people. Time is money.
The biggest problem with "do your research" is that most people don't know how or what to research. On top of that knowing what sources to trust and which ones to avoid is incredibly difficult for beginners. I'm speaking from experience since I was in that boat for a long time. I ended up learning the hard way, and finally built my PC 2 years ago. If I were you I'd make a video breaking down 'How to research (for PC building)', 'what to research', 'recommended sources (tech blogs, YT channels, etc.)' and most importantly WHY & WHAT. Are you making a PC for gaming (Halo, COD, CSGO, Tree Simulator, etc.) or creation (Lightroom, Photoshop, Blender, CAD, DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere, etc.) do you have a big or small budget, common PC terms, which one is better for what task and why, common issues/complaints. It's far more helpful for new PC builders to understand the 'why' of the parts than the 'what' 9/10. This way they can make a truly informed decision, especially when working with budgets so small the only decent spec parts they can get are used ones (which I personally recommend everyone do to save some green) Please consider making a video in the future explaining this with as much of your own experience included so others can have an easier time understanding why the biggest piece of advise everyone gives is "do your research" 🙏🏻 sorry for the long af comment.
There is ex-Microsoft guy (Dave) who bought 2 RTX 6000, depends on budget. The point is you don't spend a lot of money if you don't know what you're doing. Just start small and see what happens. Mac Mini for $600 is a good start LOL
And nah nah nah the PC space is just as bad lol its impossible to go from 0 to decision making in less than a week
I'm about 9 months into learning about cameras. About 3 weeks into learning about PC builds - (both purchases made ) Very similar spaces
Also, if anybody could help me with choosing a power supply I'd be grateful 🙃 workstation/video editing build: i7-13700k CPU, z790 board, 420mm radiator cooling, g skill 16x2 ram, Sabrent Gen 4 1tb SSD. Will drop an a770 16g GPU (MAYBE a 4070 ti), 32gb more ram, and 3-4tb more pcie/sata storage. Won't have any need to upgrade beyond this until it breaks. Looking for cheapest but still fully reliable/safe option including open box or used if it makes sense. Thanks!
not sure it’s worth buying pc for under $1000 if you don’t have that much just save up or not buy at all.
PC Part Picker is a good recommendation. Definitely helps you call out things like: 1) Do I need to flash the bios BEFORE I put in a processor 2) Do the cables from the case connect to my motherboard without any extra conversion cables 3) Does my power supply power everything in my build and what is my power headroom. 4) Does my cooler fit in my case? 5) Does my case match my motherboard size? --- Some things you might need to check on your own. Does my CPU cooler block my RAM due to height? There is probably a general list of things to check somewhere but PC Part Picker is a good start. The next thing I would say is what are you going to use it for. If you are doing something weird like doing a home LLM server for inference, your requirements might be very different than a gamer. I'm sure use case for camera's is also a thing.
All the things you state are wishful thinking unfortunately. A company that large would need anywhere between 5-10y to make a turnaround like that and they ain’t got the capital no more. But you would say well AMD turned things around from a similar position while true AMD was MUCH smaller then Intel. But on the “bright” side of things Intel is too important for national security to the American government to fail so they will be bailed out with $$$ or a merger. But will they ever make another leap like 486 to Pentium, unlikely.
Time will tell..
I know about pc parts ... he says... right after he said this cpu is Ryzen 8 🤣
Heyyy… I know
@@SiliconSteak Haahaa ..yeah you know
I built mine around my monitor. 1440p 144hz. I overbuilt with a 7800x3d and 6950xt but likely upgrade the gpu when 9800xt is a thing. Plan is this build/ugrade can take me through 10years. Even bought a mobo with gen 5 pcie that gpu dont even do yet.
Ps5 pro or ryzen 4070? 🙄
Ryzen 4070 all the way 🥩🗿
my first pc was prebuilt, paid the equivalent of $2300-2400 for a 4070ti and 14700k keep in mind the 4070ti super existed, which i didn't know, and had i just built the pc myself, i could have gotten a 4080super and 7800x3d and now i know how to build a pc...
The prebuilt tax hit u hard..
Where was this video a year ago when I first started learning about computers?! When I purchased this exact PC, it performed poorly even at low settings of 720p. Keep in mind that it is marketed as a 1080p gaming PC. It comes with an IPASON A520 motherboard, which is limited to PCI.3 and lacks a manual or support, leaving you with few to no upgrades. Additionally, the CPU cooler is a foreign brand that occasionally rattles under heavy loads and makes a loud noise when I turn on my computer before stopping after a few minutes. As far as computers go in late 2024, I will say that the computer runs your daily tasks exceptionally well, and ever since I bought a 6650XT, I have truly loved the machine as it provides the best budget gaming experience. BUT STILL!! This computer could have been built for much cheaper AND GOT A GPU WITH IT TO BEGIN WITH. I now am looking to upgrade the MOBO, cooler, and AM4 CPU to on with more juice. I do plan on building an AM5 PC after I successfully upgrade my current PC and flip it.
Thank god for people like you and sites like pcpartpicker! I was recently given a case with a not-so-old mobo and cpu. I know the basics of pc's but not specifics. It's been humbling ring to figure out what to add!
4090/5090 are the GPU you need for 4K gaming. I cannot wait to replace my 4090 with a 5090 Suprim X!!!
At native yes. You can get by with other gpus with DLSS
@@SiliconSteak Is there anything other than native? lol just joking. DLSS/FSR are ok if you don't have the horsepower to run native 4K res.
I prefer DLSS Quality over native lol
I'm going to be building my first pc soon, I've watched enough videos where I think I'm comfortable building the pc, but the setup after the build is where I get lost. some advise or pointers would be nice! thanks
Hey, your going to want to make sure you have all the little things accounted for. -Do you have a usb drive with a windows iso on it? -Do you have a decent mouse and keyboard/a hdmi or displayport cord for you monitor to pc display connection. -Do you have screwdrivers and enough screws to mount your fans and drives? -Do you have thermal paste and or the right mounting bracket for your cpu. -Do you have enough PCIE power pins for your GPU? Then I would just look into how to install drivers after your PC up and you should be good!
@@SiliconSteak on tech source, there is a way to get windows for like $30, do you know that process?
Gamersoutlet.com get you $6 windows keys. But you go to Microsoft's official site to get the iso file.
PC Builder @PCBuilderChannel does component videos helping explain how to select motherboards, CPUs, Power Supplies, Memory, etc. The channel also does best part for the money videos. Finally they have a series called "boost my build" where he takes submitted builds and budgets and looks to maximize value for the budget. The host is entertaining and his explanations are easy to follow. Recommend checking it out if you're new to PC building or just want to be entertained by his rants during boost my build vids.
@@SiliconSteak thank you
Been building my own systems for many years. I currently have a 6800XT and I'm planning on possibly getting a 5080 or the best RDNA 4 model next year to pair with the 7800x3d (I'm aware that the current pairing isn't ideal, but that's what I have for now). I was worried about VRAM and I decided yesterday to really look at why AMD offers more VRAM for their cards and it seems Nvidia just has a superior compression algorithm so their cards will hopefully not need as much video ram on them. So now I guess I'm not as worried about the VRAM difference. The 5080 is rumored to be significantly cut down compared to the 5090 but we will see once reviews and official specs are finally out. The price of these damn cards are insane though. I still wonder if I should buy a 16g VRAM card for $1000+. I want to have DLSS and the better raytracing performance this time to be honest.
If you do anything more than rasterized gaming and don’t care about quality upscaling you can make a case for AMD gpus in the high end. If not, the NVIDIA tax is worth the money because it’s just better. NVIDIA does compress vram better but it might save you like 500-800mb of space not a ton. What will save you GB of space is being able to run DLSS perf and it look and run better than FSR quality at 4k
@@SiliconSteak I use the system mainly for gaming, so I guess its back to Nvidia again. One other thing to consider is the direction the games industry is going in. They are making upscaling so important due to a possible lack of optimization or the performance impact of features like the ones in Unreal Engine for example. On the flip side, I guess the hardware is behind the software these days.
Yeah that’s true, also more and more games are using ray tracing in their default profiles
Been watching Camera Conspiracies
LOL 100%. I’ve been watching Vegetable Police for like 4 years though
New camera quality looks amazing!
New camera quality is DEF off the charts!!

Think it depends on the individual, channels that focus more on the productivity side of things or XOC are still quite fond of Intel. They've mainly just fallen from grace for gamers. For the most part I think it's their P core E core architecture that screwed everything up. They tried to imitate mobile processors and Arm, and that just hasn't panned out. Each generation thats used this architecture always seems to have scheduling issues on windows.. For those that use their PC for a 50/50 split of gaming and productivity it's kinda of a pain trying to pick a CPU. AMD is crushing it in games, but at the same time Intel is still very competitive for productivity tasks. Your left having to compromise on one or the other.. In the past, at least when Intel was dominating the CPU market, building high end to midrange system was easy. Competition is good, but sometimes competition also creates buyers remorse when you end up with a split in the market like we do now. It's a pretty straightforward choice if you only use your PC for one thing like gaming, video editing, 3D modeling, or something specific. It's kinda of a pain if your a multi tasker and have to cherry pick where you'd prefer have more performance while losing some elsewhere..
256 bits bus is the same as 4x 64 bits bus 😂😂😂😂

Real question is, do we want to save Intel?
I think it would be in everyone’s best interest for Intel to succeed. Except for AMD and TSMC of course
@@SiliconSteak TSMC would probably want it too, since Intel has booked a lot of capacity for TSMC and is still looking to book some 2nm capacity. TSMC may not want them in the long run, but at least for now.
I won't help a liar.
It's called karma P/s: They should have a contingency plan and stick to it rather than do things pointlessly
By building a sentry nest duh
Intel failed to capitalize on mobile, apple, low power laptops, GPUs, high core count, CPU rendering, AI, 7nm.. they ALREADY FAILED a LONG TIME AGO!
100% true!
People are not looking for Intel to fail.. We want them to pay the price of selling the same garbage for years and not increasing cores nor reducing power consumption.. x86 would be dead if AMD didn't make more cores affordable
AMD/Nvidia/Apple will do the same without competition
@@SiliconSteak Indeed.
They focused on playing with LGBT and inclusion Bllsht
Great video man! I'll never comprehend those that simp for one corporation over the other. Just buy what suits your needs the best, no brand loyalty. What I am fan of is market competition though, and I'm hoping Intel will pull themselves out of this slump.
Hey, nice to see you in the comments since I steal your benchmarks so often 😅. I agree, no need for this brand loyalty stuff, just buy what gets the job done/makes you happy at the end of the day. I made this video to provide my thoughts on what Intel needs to do to comeback. I’m tired of social media being a echo chamber of how all Intel products are bad when really it depends on your use case and the cost
As part of the CHIPS Act, didn't Intel get a HUGE support from the US government? Baffling seeing them fail.
Pat Gelsinger has recently said they haven’t got any money from the chips act yet
Supposedly the feds gave the green light to Qualcomm to buyout Intel, or merge with them, we'll see in the coming months if this comes to an agreement.
Let’s hope not
why isnt optane a bigger deal? its a great tech
And sadly dead as well, quite a tragedy really.
