At an American wedding, family members and relatives sit in front and the guests sit in the back. This is totally opposite from Japanese weddings and I felt odd when I saw it for the first time. Did you notice this difference when you went to a Japanese wedding for the first time? Didn't you feel odd?
Thankyou Always😊
I agree with most of the respects of this video. This must be the typical Japanese wedding reception which we have also had😅in my generation. But I think these days, it is changing.. you can arrange and request the hotel or wedding company what you want to do at the wedding reception. My son had a wedding reception at so called luxury old established hotel, but they had meetings with the hotel many times and had speeches from bride and groom ,groom sung with playing guitar , streamed the video which they made ,…etc.. 😂we laughed and laughed. had a wonderful unique reception 😊 ❤
I feel so sorry that the younger generation will never have a chance to witness a traditional Japanese wedding reception held at the bridegroom's family's house in olden days, particularly in countryside. It could last until the morning of the next day. Preceding the wedding and the reception, there used to a procession of the bride and her family to the bridegroom's family's house from the bride's family's house.
I love listening your show! I like wedding in USA better than Japanese. As you said, it feel more intimate than Japanese receptions. Also you can leave early and no one cares😂😂By the way, I live Georgia for 25yesars and never seen Kei-truck😉😉
Hey Austin and Arthur, cheers for a great 2025ahead! Massive fan of your casual chats and insight into Japanese life thank you from down under! Ps - toyota is better than honda and ford lmao
topic for the podcast: have you ever given or gotten a wedgie? if so, what's the story?
This is the best episode I’ve ever watched so far😂 Your heated discussion always cracks me up. Thank you!!
I ate all dishes served for me when I held wedding.😊

Haaaadddoooo gggeeeeiii woooooooo!!!!
As Japanese I'm confused with the idea of tips every time I go to USA. 20% of food itself is too much. Especially when I just bought coffee or something without any special service, I don't understand why I should pay any extra. It is just minimum or basic things those servers do. Those basic cost should be paid by the owner of the shop, not by customers. They don't pay enough for their servers and they rely on their customers to pay for their employees.
It's fun to listen to this chubby guy on the left. He is always drunk and hyper. He looks like Jack Black.

If you need more money, change your job and don’t rely on tipping
Tipping culture is stupid. Just pay your staff! Love the videos boys, keep it up.
TIPS = To insure prompt service. Restaurant servers used to do a lot of work, and yes there are those who still do. 15% is good, 10% is average. 20% is great job. Servers do tip out to the kitchen, food runners, hosts, bartenders etc. And that depends on the restaurant and it is calculated by food sales and bar sales. So if you don't tip them, they would pay to work. Trust me, in my early days in college I did. But I agree, tipping for to-go or jobs that don't require that extra work and effort = no tip. Delivery service, yes tip in cash. Gas and car servicing is expensive. As for Japan, mostly don't tip. But if you see a tip jar, and they did a great job, I see no issues with tipping especially with the weak yen right now. Every one should try a service job btw. It will make you a better person. Also, restaurant jobs are a great means to make money when in limbo in life. It offers flexible hours, good pay at the upper scale realm, and not selling your soul to do it. It has helped so many people get ahead including me during the tough times in life.

You may not know but actually there is also tipping culture is exist in Japan. Only when people got special service, they give some money to the staff , such as staying at Japanese traditional style hotels ( Ryokan) or asking transport large furniture. Even though they are professional, people would give some tip to express special gratitude to the staff. Of course it is not a duty, people do this voluntarily. Tipping which to be already predetermined is terrible.
TIP is very BS, Why customers pay to service? that's restaurant owner's job not customers! I understand I can pay more food not to TIP! same as self register at groceries! they not pay me why I have to work for them? thats stupid In Japan sometimes TIP "keep the change"
Glad to know even you Americans have exactly the same feeling about tipping. It sucks! If it’s mandatory, include in the price!
Btw, the thumbnail is fabulous.
To be precise, Japan does not lack a tipping system. There is a custom called "Kokoeoduke" which is given to the "nakai-san," or waitresses, who work at Japanese inns. This is an old custom, so there may be few people who do it nowadays.
My father was born in 1932 and he always tipped the nakai-san when we stayed in a ryokan.
Actually the cancer statistics in all developed countries have been improving except for Japan, and this may have something to do with still trying to eating well in this day and age in Japan, instead of trying to eat healthy, which is where the rest of the world is going.
In fact, the homeless people used to be called Furosha(浮浪者) in Japan, but somehow the media came up with the idea that calling them "Homeless people" is less offencinve.
keep away from american restaurants
The reason the U.S. military is stationed in Japan is not to protect Japan but simply because Japan is geographically convenient. If the U.S. military were stationed in Japan to defend the country, the unjust invasion of Takeshima by South Korea would never have happened.
Introducing a tipping system is essential for Japanese workers, especially those in the food service and hospitality industries, who are forced to provide high-quality services at low wages.
Individual effort and gut chips are not the solution. The LGBT and DEI are also the fault of the US, but don't blame Japan later on. The wages of Japanese workers dropped when the temporary staffing business came in from the U.S.
FYI, the minimum wage for fast food workers in California is $20 an hour…which is ridiculous to me. Back in the days these jobs were considered entry level job. It was a part time job as a stepping stone for most of high school and college students. But nowadays it’s a long term “career” 🤷♂️ worst part is that you get your orders wrong but they still expect you to tip them 20%. Tipping is bull crap.
Thx for an interesting video of such quality, as always! As a topic in one day, I'd like u guys to talk about the healthcare system in the US like Medicare and Obamacare. How much is it different from those systems in Japan? Looking forward to the next video!
The guy on the left is always drunk and excited about something. It's fun to watch❤
I thought All American people embraced tipping culture. So, I'm kind of surprised that Austin and Arthur have the same feeling as mine about tipping. I always think employers should pay more for their employees so that they don't need to haggle tips. It is your business, not us customers.
The problem is us culture is performance-based capitalist -- no one will serve you great unless they see the financial benefit, and customers are the best judge of the service. So they could just roll the excess cost into the menu price but then I think you'd see a flattening out of all service to slightly above mediocre. We americans don't have the concept of 'ikigai'
That’s why you need a vacation from vacation :)
It's so funny and entertaining to see you two get so excited about the topic of tipping(especially Austin😂) lol!! ( it’s more than I expected from the ending of previous video🤣.) When I was in the US(‘21-‘23), an English tutor told us that we didn’t have to tips for “to go”, and I decided to follow that…. Anyways, thank you for a great video this time too!
The Japanese services are splendid? Is that how you get thums up?
"Go away. This isn't a Girls Bar." - Austin, 2024
Year, it is hilarious.
