What I found most interesting about the lifestyle of homeless people was the open-air karaoke (青空カラオケ)in Tennoji, Osaka. It disappeared about 20 years ago, but I was moved by the contrast between the ultra-traditional art museum and the voices of the homeless singing joyfully.
In fact, the homeless people used to be called Furosha(浮浪者) in Japan, but somehow the media came up with the idea that calling them "Homeless people" is less offencinve.
I’ve watched whole episodes on your podcast (literally from the very first one) and saw your faces for the first time in this video lol I’m big fan of you guys pls keep posting on both TH-cam and podcast :)
In Japan most of Homeless says they don’t want any help they want to live alone, long time ago I gave some money a homeless woman but she rejected the money she said I don’t want your help so I stopped thinking about homeless people. Government will help
First, I thought “ why do homeless have camp tents!? What a rich homeless they are!” When I saw homeless areas in Seattle😂. Because usually homeless in Japan live in cardboard house or house made from recycled vinyl as you two know. Another big difference between the U.S and JP about homeless is drugs. In Seattle, many of them were drug addictions, so their behaviors were super scary😰
I saw a lot of Liar Liar's clip recelnty. There is one scene one homeless man ask Jim Carrey money. I thougtht it wound not happen here. One man and one family got big trouble becasue the guy tried to help homeless. The town's people got upset. That's how no Christianity in this coutnry.
Here’s a topic request ! “Cheating in Japan”. I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’ve seen some clips where Japanese guys in Shibuya brag that they’ve cheated before, in which cheating is being introduced as a Japanese culture. I hope you guys defend us and recover our samurai prides😂. I love your podcast. Your insights about Japan are awesome. Thanks
That’s a nice topic! But I don’t know how much we (Arthur) could help. It was considered respectable for samurai to get boyfriends even after marriage. In the book 葉隠, there’s a whole chapter dedicated to how to find a boyfriend. Sexual relationships were seen very differently before the Meiji period.
In Japan, begging is a crime explicitly stated in the Penal Code. Giving money to a homeless person who is begging could be complicit in the crime. Once they experience the success of begging, they risk losing their motivation to seek reintegration into society, such as getting a stable job or receiving public assistance. That is why it is prohibited. People who know this do not give money directly to homeless people.
@T_m_m1701さんへ。 The Austin and Arthur Showは「アメリカ人同士が普段の調子で語り合う」というコンセプトのチャンネルみたいです。

Arthur(IU connect)

What is the name of the sake (and in Japanese)?
To answer your first question “a homeless person” in Japanese is called

There’s no need to reply seriously to such a selfish person.
