YouTube Goalie Colab - Jack Muren and Ice Ice Goalie
If you watch TH-cam goalie stuff, I'll bet you know who Jack Muren is. I got a chance to play on the same ice with Jack and also interview him.
You might need to grab a COUPLE cold ones for this epic 20 minute exercise in TH-cam video history making.
In the FIRST HALF, you get to see the on ice footage edited to highlight how different we both play (I wish I was half as good as Jack but it's fun to see the comparison as we try to keep pucks out of a couple nets in Wisconsin).
Stick around for the SECOND HALF of this video for an in-depth interview with Jack and learn a little bit about who he is and how he became such an inspirational, positive voice for goalies everywhere.

    At 6:50, how does it compare tension wise to putting the strap through the back slot in the skates? Im still having issues with my pads feeling like theyre restricting my ankles too much

    • @iceicegoalie-OG
      @iceicegoalie-OG 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've tried it both ways. I really think it's different for for each set of pads. On this set there is less tension with the strap around the boot instead of through that hole in the heel. On my newer set, because of the position of the strap, it feels better with the strap through the heel hole. Are you using toe ties? In my experience those are responsible for most of my ankle issues. I just do not use them for roller.

      @@iceicegoalie-OG Nice. I'd have guessed more. Still too much for me though. I'm gonna DIY it.🤞 Needless to say it will be a simple design with solid colours, 90s-style. I've had the same all-white bucket for 25 years now and it was in pretty rough shape. I've just replaced all the hardware and straps and have ordered (still waiting for) a cat eye replacement cage. I'd like to replace the foam too but I haven't found suitable replacement foam anywhere. So a bit of work but still cheaper than buying a new mask, and certainly cheaper than a custom paint job.

    Can you use street hockey pads for inline or is ice recommended?

    • @iceicegoalie-OG
      @iceicegoalie-OG 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It totally depends on the level of play. In street hockey around here they use a light plastic ball that works well with the lighter protection of most street pads. For inline we use a heavier weight hard plastic puck. Some inline players can shoot that puck pretty hard and I wouldn't want to face them without better protection. But if we're talking about young kids or beginners that are not shooting very hard yet you might get away with it for a while. Ice pads come in lots of price levels so they're the safest and most convenient option. There are inline specific pads out there like the ones from Passau and Kennesky that are pretty cool and designed for that inline puck. Good luck!

    • @iceicegoalie-OG
      @iceicegoalie-OG 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've tried a lot of different suggestions for toe ties as an inline goalie and nothing has worked for me. I always end up with a wheel obstruction. I just don't use them for inline at all and for me it's fine. The pad will twist awkwardly every once in a while but it's rare.

      What's up Charles!? I wish Moose could come but he's too wild of a partier and would definitely wreck the place. We've had great luck with houses. You can run into an occasional weird owner or funny neighbor though, but as long as you aren't too loud and do not wreck the place it's way better than a hotel. This house was stocked with tons of free beer!

      Hi Jarrod! Thanks a lot, man. The lizard comment was a throwback to my old fishing video. I know how you feel with that Pittsburgh tourney. When I first started playing way back in the 90s my inline team (we thought we were good) signed up for a tournament at a local college. We had no idea what to expect because there weren't many people playing inline way back then. Turns out there were pro teams traveling around doing tournaments. Think Globetrotters vs The Washington Generals 5th string farm club.

    • @vezina808
      @vezina808 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iceicegoalie-OG yes it holds up pretty well. It’ll stays put. I drill holes on the Rollerfly where it needs to be then I screw in a long screw. I also use a countersink drill bit so that the head of screw won’t be exposed on the surface. I cut a slit on the side of the pads then insert a small square piece of plastic where the screws goes through. Rollerfly lays flush along the inside of the pads. Pads are pretty old and used strictly for inline hockey.

    Do you not use toe ties, and if so what's your method behind it? Seems like it would save a lot of time with putting the pads on, that's why I ask haha

    • @iceicegoalie-OG
      @iceicegoalie-OG ปีที่แล้ว

      Funny you should ask - (short answer: for inline, No) Long answer: I've been wondering about this. I tried several methods for inline and always had trouble with the lace tangling in the wheel. Almost all my inline goalie friends do not use toe ties. For ice I've always used them but recently had one break mid-game. I just removed it and didn't even notice a difference the rest of the game. I'm thinking of scrapping the whole toe tie thing all together because like you say - "it would save a lot of time" - I don't really even know what the point of them is. My pads rotate fine without them.
