Beer League Hockey - Outside!

- Game footage/commentary from the Elmhurst YMCA's outdoor men's 40+ ice hockey league. This game took place on Nov 19, 2019. Playing hockey outside on one of the coolest rinks around. They have freeze coils so the ice stays frozen well into the 50s. The guy that runs this rink is a genius with the Zamboni - the ice is PERFECT.
I'm in net for the Silverado's (sponsor) Mugslingers who, coincidentally, have a similar jersey to my Beer Comets. Totally different team - except Pete! (red helmet)

Hey Morgan love the videos. You are always having fun out there and as a result you are pretty good! Anyways thats what I like about your videos, other goalies out there just take themselves too seriously and they arent very good.
Hahahaha Thanks Dane! I figure I play to have fun. One thing I discovered is that the older you get, the less seriously guys take the games, It's still competitive but nobody thinks a scout is watching anymore LOL. I'm not good but I learn from every mistake. And watching other goalies on TH-cam can really teach you through things you struggle with. Thanks for commenting and watching this old video. This league didn't happen this year because of the virus, but I can't wait till it's back next year.
I like these videos... just hit 47 and still tending... got my 12 year old learning as well. Would kill to play outdoor ice... next best thing, we'll be doing some outdoor inline tonight together in a pickup. Will be fun for us to swap in out with each other. I just love playing, hoping to keep tending and having fun as long as I can!!! Waiting for the ice rink in Pasadena CA to reopen here soon. Cheers buddy... keep it up!!!
@Epic Story - Glad you're still playing and playing with your son has to be awesome. The way I see it, we can play as long as we want to because there's always other people our age that want to do the same. I hope I never quit. Our buddy Ted is still playing and he's 72! @@iceicegoalie-OG thanks bud... so true, we always have an age group to take us in haha... I'm actually a Bostonian transplanted, though my kids are Nevadans/Californians... but I gotta tell you, the kids out here are getting really good. Leafs currently have a player who cracked their NHL roster (Nicholas Robertson), who ironically came out of the Pasadena Leafs program they run out here. He was home and just shooting around in front of his parents house when the long Covid delay happened before they finally got the previous playoffs done. He got in 4 games and a goal in the big show... but I think he's not up with the club this season... still developing and Leafs are loaded with talent right now.
@@weprintplastic I'll watch for Nicholas when the Hawks play the Leafs over the next couple years. It's so cool that you saw him practicing in his driveway. I know there's tons of talent out there. The Labeda inline team (based in CA) comes out here and cleans up at the tournaments.
Outdoor game was awesome! You had a super solid game. Some wicked penalty shot saves, very clutch! Great video Morgan keep it up!

Thanks for the shout out! Man that puck came so close to hitting the gopro in the beginning. I set up my gopro after warmies...I'm pretty sure my teammates would try to hit it haha! You played great! Loved the breakaway saves. Too bad 24 had to put in that rebound after the initial stop. Great game nonetheless...best part of beer league...post game suds! 🍻
So far nobody has hit the GoPro but that one missed by 2 inches. Your teammates trying to hit yours in warmups is hilarious. I play with a couple characters like that for sure. Those suds taste best after a win, but still amazing even if you lose. That bar usually has these very addictive salty snacks instead of popcorn. I hope they are back next week!
Hey Chris - lotta nice saves there! Since you're on ICE Im thinkin you could tuck a cold one with a straw in it just inside that left corner of the goal net... ice cold all the time, and you would not have allowed that one goal. I watched it, nothing got in there the whole game except for one little hit by your skate that probably would not have knocked it out :) its all good.
Now this guy is thinking! If I can get the refs to let me keep a pop in the net this is the future. The straw is genius. No need to flip up the mask! Thanks Dad!!!

It's such a gorgeous rink. The ice is remarkably good even when it's 50 degrees out. Their freeze coils are crazy good.

@@iceicegoalie-OG I'm way South. Right by St. Louis. I'd love to take my boy to a Hawks vs Blues game some day. May have to bring our gear along with us.
@@JackMuren That would be a good time. I have relatives in St. Louis and always liked the Blues (not as much as the Hawks of course, jeez!). If you head up here, I'm buying the first few rounds. I'm sure we could find a stick and puck (we call it "rat hockey" or "drop in" up here) - Ever skate with Mike Mazzei? He plays down there somewhere during the week.
@@iceicegoalie-OG I understand. There is a pretty vicious rivalry between the two clubs. We have a pretty deep dislike of the Hawks. Mostly because they are a good, rough team, in our division. If I ever put something together to come up there, I will definitely reach out to you. Mike's last name doesn't sound familiar. Maybe if you found out where he plays I might have a better idea.
