Hi, I'm Joe Lee. I'm a car enthusiast, engineer, music lover, and a family man. I've been into cars since I was a kid and now I can't seem to stop trading / buying cars. I've also spent countless hours and money modifying cars. I've learned a lot from the TH-cam community and would like to contribute to it. This channel was originally formed to share life hacks (I'm always looking to improve and to do things in a more efficient manner), however, I've decided to focus on automotive content. If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments section.

Hey Joe - will do the same setup thanks to your videos. Approx how many miles before the tire noise become annoying? I may go with Contis DW06+ for this sole reason. Thanks!
The tire noise became more noticeable around 25k miles. It looks like the Contis come in 285/35/20. That looks like a good option.
G87 is a superior car (which is expected). In terms of looks, I personally find it a good looking car with unique and bold design. Its not trying to be pretty.
zeeker is that you?
Good question! Same parent company...
Great video but what is your honest conclusion? You can only keep one, which one do you choose and why?
I ended up keeping the M2 because I like RWD more, the additional power that the M2 offered over the CTR, the more aggressive sound, and the better tech. CTR mark ups have pretty much gone away so the price difference is a factor. I think the M2 is worth the price difference, but that doesn't take away from how good the CTR is for its MSRP. I still like the CTR but I don't have a place for it in my garage. Which car do you like better?
@ I went with the Type R. Found one at MSRP just recently . With any mark up on the Type R, M2 would be an easier choice. I had M3. Loved it. The issue with BMWs is how quickly they lose value versus cars like Type R. My M3 lost like 30 percent in just few years. However, M2 is better in every way hence substantial MSRP difference. But Type R feels more special which is why I think it retains its value and most dealers can still get away with marking them up.
Great to hear about your Type R! I should have added that the M2 was not my daily driver so practicality was not a priority. The FL5 is more practical than the G87. I think my review will be relevant again when G87 M2 prices drop into the $40k range as that will probably be the floor for the FL5.
Did you say you have a 160 mile commute? nah fam you got it
@dmv_p yes, indeed. I like where I live and the community that i work with...they just aren't close to each other. I only go into the office a couple times a week.
Beautiful machine and very unique so at least there’s some exclusivity with the price. I think only a true car guy would be buying this lol.
Yeah, it is a limited market. I like it but can't afford it. I plan to go to the final 2024 Mainline Cars & Coffee on November 24th. Will you be going to that one? I couldn't make it today.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee yeah I will try to make that last one. Good turnout today, I wasn’t sure if I was going either but great mix of cars. Got there at 9 but wanna try for 8:30 next time lol. The McClaren dealership in newtown square announced their cars/coffee next Saturday 11/2, 9-12 those are always fun. Much smaller but right at the dealership and usually some good coffee and treats if you’re there right at 9 lol.
@@omichaelnato5388 Thanks for informing me of the event at McLaren Philadelphia this Saturday. The weather forecast looks good. I've been wanting to check out a 650s that they have in inventory. This is a good opportunity to do that. I'll plan to be there at 9.
The tariffs make sense. I also thought this was too expensive
Without the 100% tariffs, this would be a good deal.
That green... I would love a green car. British racing green is one of my favorite colors

Great to hear!
Wow nice coverage of the event Joe! You really know your Porsche models. The numbers were always so hard for me to remember.. You Porsche guys are another breed! 🤓
Thanks! I'm still learning the nomenclature for the pre-1989 cars. I hope all is well!
Which one would you want to take home?
Tough question! There were so many great cars at that event. I think if I had to choose one to borrow or buy, it would be the dark grey 1979 911 turbo (930). Which one would you choose?
@@TheLifeofJoeLee it's hard to pick one. I think i would go with the dark blue 991.2 GT3 touring with the silver trim and wheels. It doesn't pop in that sea of Porsche's, but it's a clean, classy, and capable sports car.
Wonderful video Joe, it was a beautiful day for all of us. That's my 'ol silver tub at 17:00, thanks for the extra footage 😁😁
Thanks for the feedback and for showing your car! You've inspired me to look for a 356.
How do you feel about the overall build quality? I currently have a bmw X3M competition and I’m really happy with the build quality of the car. The paint, panel gaps, interior, etc. I’m most likely going to get a model s plaid but I’m worried about the stereotype that teslas have in regard to build quality and attention to detail.
The panel alignment of my car (both interior and exterior) is not perfect but I was ok with it because the car has been reliable, it works great, and the service experience was ok (this is no longer the case as I don't think my local service center can handle the large number of cars in area). It seems that some people who have taken delivery of new Model Ss in 2024 have had some problems with their cars and I've noticed really bad panel alignment on a new model Y that a friend had recently picked up so buying used (where you can spend some time inspecting and driving the car before buying) may be the way to go. As a former BMW owner (last one was a 2023 M2), I can confidently say that the overall build quality of my Plaid is not as good. The paint quality is on par - it is holding up as well as my previous F80 M3s. With that said, the driving experience and usability of the car are good enough for me to overlook the less than perfect build quality. Just curious, are you also considering the Porsche Taycan and/or Audi E-Tron GT? To me (and probably everyone else), they have better build quality and a nicer interior. However, I value the more efficient packaging of the Plaid, one pedal driving, FSD, and not having to deal with routine maintenance for my daily driver.
Wow you traded my dream car with another my dream car. M2 is more affordable but it is hard to swallow the shape, weight and no sunroof option.
The M2 can be optioned with a sunroof (without the carbon roof option), but the weight is undeniable.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee In Australia, only carbon roof is available, sadly.
@EastWood2004 I learn something new every day!
At 21,000 I noticed a noise when pressing on the brake pedal. Lexus repair service said common in Hybrid but does not do any harm. Said I could drive with no problem but very annoying. $3500 to fix. WTH Why not a recall?
Sorry to hear about the issue. I had not experienced that issue, but it seems like other RX hybrid owners had their brake actuators changed to resolve it. I recommend having a different service center look at it.
Luckily I have an extended warranty that will cover the $3500 price to fix but I feel that this should be a recall item. Recommend getting the extended warranty if purchase this car. Otherwise I love the car.
At 21000 miles my brake made a noise when stepping on the brake pedal Lexus repair said common in the Hybrid but doesn't cause any harm. Very annoying. Said could operate with no problems but costs $3500 to fix WTH. Why not a recall?
My only real gripe with the Plaids is the depreciation, especially if you paid the premium for what they were going for in 2021-2022! G80 M3 rides very harsh in comparison. I used to own a 2021 M4 comp and I found the ride quality to be unforgiving on any imperfect roads. Terrible as a daily commuter/family car.
Depreciation of EVs in general has been terrible. The G80/82 values seem to be holding strong. I appreciate you sharing your perspective of the G80/G82 ride quality. For my daily driver, good ride quality is a factor. I've decided to hold onto my plaid.
Hi - given the Sportlines have 10 mm less offset than the arachnid rears, do you fine the reat 285 tires to be significantly inward relative to the fronts?
Hello, relative to the Arachnids, the TS5s are closer to the fender by 11.4 mm in the rear and 17.7 mm in the front. The rear is slightly more inset than the front wheels but I don't think it is significant. A 5mm spacer in the rear would make them even.
Thanks Joe! I have the same 2022 Plaid (blue) with factory Arachnids. I’m averaging 10,000 miles on rear ($1,600 set with road hazard), and 15,000 ($1,500 a set with road hazard) on front tires. At 53,000 miles I’ve spent over $9k on tires already in 2.5 years. Thanks to you, instead of spending another $3,100 on just tires, I instead ordered your exact TSportline TS5 setup tonight ($3,800 shipped after $500 off coupon). In 20,000 to 30,000 miles, it’ll only cost me $1500 for the tires with road hazard. I’ll save thousands over 2 years. A 2db noise increase doesn’t bother me. This was a complete no brainer.
BTW, can you give me your suspension specs? Factory alignment with it in Low? Assume they typically do that in Medium? I ride in Medium, but as you know, it auto defaults to Low around 55.
Wow, that is a lot of tires! I think you'll like the looks of the TS5s. I have over 30k miles on my TS5 / A/S4 set up and can probably get another 10k miles out of the tires. Thanks for the feedback!
@@SnakesOnAPlane-SOAP I had Tesla set the wheel alignment to factory specs with the car in low mode. Yes, my understanding is that they normally do at the medium ride height. I think the key is getting the toe close to zero when set at the ride height that you drive in the most.
My 2018 recently has had some issues with the steering wheel and most recently Tesla support is telling me that updates are not fully Being pushed thru although car says they are. So I think I may have hit my limit with this guy….too many little issues add up
Did you have any alignments done with these tires or even your OEM wheels at one point?
Yes, I had an alignment done after replacing the original tires at 18k miles. I think the car came with a bad alignment from the factory as the back of the car became much more stable on wet surfaces at high speed after the alignment. I think there was significant toe out in the rear when the car was delivered. Unfortunately, I could not get the before and after alignment specs as the service center said their printer was broken and they already cleared the data. I have not had another alignment performed since as the car has been driving fine and the tire wear seems pretty even.
The CTR is a car that I would enjoy looking at, not much with the M2.
I still think the CTR is the better looking car of the two.
As a daily commuter on my plaid I'm averaging 6,000 mi on my rear tires. I'm switching to the 19-in tires at this point, it's getting way too expensive.
Wow! That is a short tire change interval. Have you had a wheel alignment done? If so, what are the rear toe specs? My first set of tires lasted 18k miles and I thought that was a short life: One rear tire had wore through the cords so could no longer hold air and the inside shoulder of both front tires were bald. I had a wheel alignment done after replacing the original set of tires.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee Yes Tesla did a wheel alignment and I had them check everything out. It looks like on the forums the 19 inches is the best way to get away from this issue without modifying the car.
Nice update. What was tread depth when new?
Thanks! That would have been useful information in the video, lol. The tread depth when new was 10/32". I'll likely replace when the tread depth is between 3/32" and 2/32" (DOT's recommendation for minimum tread depth).
My stock arachnids with summer tires rear tires wore to the metal wires within 10k miles and started losing air pressure. I still go with the Tesla T2 with insulating foam, I like to keep the stock performance.
It’s because you didn’t get a proper alignment
Have you had a wheel alignment performed on your car? My first set of stock summer tires lasted 18k miles before the right rear tire wore through the cords, causing a leak. I failed to provide the context in this particular video, but I had my wheel alignment done with the car in low mode after having the original set of tires replaced and my tire wear has been more even. While the rear camber can't be adjusted, I think the rear and front toe on my car was off from the factory. The car was more stable at high speeds on wet surfaces after the alignment.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee I’m aware of alignment on low mode. I keep on medium though. When I went to Tesla service they didn’t support alignment in low and told me to go aftermarket shops. I live by unplugged performance, so I could get the adjustable camber arms to correct the negative camber but I guess I haven’t bothered.
Have you gotten a wheel alignment done on the car at the medium height setting? I had my alignment done while in low mode because I prefer driving my car in low mode. I recommend getting an performing an alignment in suspension height setting that the car spends the most time in.
15k miles on my factory PS4s… even wear.
Wow long life.
I like the 09 PORSHE better.
I too had the smell in my 21 Plaid. I got them to replace the HIPA housing AND the filter under warranty. I then bought a filter sock that goes over the inlet of the HIPA housing. I also got a "dam" above the vents for the HIPA so it would protect any water to get into that vent. Did this last year and the smell hasn't returned.
Thank you for sharing your experience and fix! That's great that you got Tesla to cover it under warranty. I had argued with the Tesla service center about it but they would not acknowledge that the filter was a problem.
@@TheLifeofJoeLee If you want to give me your email, I can share some pics and of the sock im talking about to help prevent the HIPA filter from getting wet in the future and the peice I stuck on to help prevent water getting in. Let me know.
@@RussManK3 That would be great! My email address is joeymlee@gmail.com. Thanks!
i decided to go with Rally Armor mudflaps. This carbon fiber flaps is more for looks. i didn't feel like I will get much protection from it and I don't trust tape
@@Wankidy Rally Armor mudflaps provide serious coverage. Thanks for letting me know.
Why were your original tires not covered under warranty?
I did not have a tire warranty, but even if i did, my original tires were worn down. They were not impacted by a road hazard, so they would not have been covered.
You should be a T1000 actor 👍.
what wheels are those? are they factory? what are they called?
Those are the Porsche 20" Sport Classic wheels that were an option for the 2014 - 2016 Panamera. I had purchased them to put winter tires on and ended up preferring the fit and look over the Turbo ii wheels that came with the car.
what make up your mind, did you try EMIRA and bit comparison between those? debating still !!!
I was in the market for a 2 door sports car with 4 seats as I have 2 young kids that I like to share my car experiences with. I had a BMW M2 and considered to be a bit too refined for me. I've owned Porsche 911s in this price range (991.1 C2S, 997.2 C4S, and 997.1 C2S) and wanted to try something different. When I first drove an Evora 400, I fell in love with the driving feel but preferred the looks of the Evora GT. I did not try an Emira before purchasing the Evora. Aside from the Emira being a 2 seater, I prefer the looks of the Evora GT (purely subjective), although I've since warmed up to the styling of the Emira. I've also heard that the Emira is more refined than the Evora which is going away from what I was looking for. Does having 4 seats matter to you? If not, there are a lot of options. If I were to get a 2 seater, my runner up would be a Porsche Boxster Spyder or Cayman GT4. What other cars are you considering?
I would dearly love to have these wheels when I buy a 2024 Model S, but the streets in the New Orleans area are so bad that I’d have a bent wheel within weeks. I’ll have to stay with the plain 19” wheels to retain my sanity (and wallet). Thanks.
I think the 19" Tempest wheels look good with the wheel covers removed. The 20" TS5s have held up well so thus far to my driving in NJ and Philadelphia.
Nice vid, question my model y activates the side repeater cameras when using turn signals. Just wondering if your year plaid does the same?
@ThePhalanx10000 yes, my plaid has that feature.
Between the 2 Mudflaps it sounds like Tsportline Mudflaps are the way to go? How’s the tsportline Mudflaps holding up? I’ve had my plaid for a week and I’m noticing the same thing with the rock chips on the rear fender. Debating on just ppfing the car.
@SupraSayianOfficial the Tsportline mudflaps are holding up well. I question how well they protect the rear fenders, but they certainly protect the front fenders better than the Tesla mudflaps.
Good vid, thank you sir
Your smell in humid issue is water POURING into your fan and cabin filter in bucket loads from Poor design of the intake. My video shows a 10$ fix . Thank me after
@oci464 thanks for sharing! That helps explain why changing the HEPA filter, which is under that opening, eliminated the smell for me. I'll try your solution to prevent the smell from coming back.
Why don’t you just skip to the comparison. Everybody knows the specs, we want to know the difference in FEEL from your brain perspective. And why do you have both? Strange. Wasteful. No wonder why they are not available. It’s a holes like you eating the supply.
Get the 3rd Cat delete pipe from GRP!….. best (and cheapest) mod you can do on the GT !! You’ll notice a huge difference, especially in the lower RPMs. And even at idle.
Thanks for the recommendation!
1 year late - great review. I just picked up my 2024 M3P and it absolutely feels like a rocket. I'd love to get a used plaid after the lease is up as I am really enjoying the Tesla experience.
The new M3P looks great! I love the new design and interior, and the performance is great! Congrats! I plan to keep my Plaid for the forseeable future. You can follow how my car holds up, though I'm thinking you would get a 2024+ Plaid with HW4 when your lease is up.
