Make love not not war was a hippie catch phrase in the late 60's-early 70's, This song is celebrating the freedoms on the United States of America, and how we Americans of a certain ilk Will not be trampled on.

"Blockbuster" was a massive hit in the UK when I was a teenager. A tremendous piece of heavy power-pop infused with the trademark tongue in cheek humour of The Sweet. You couldn't avoid this huge hit when I was a lad. Moving forward a few years, "Fever Of Love" was a marvelous power-pop single with all kinds of proggy phrasing and subtly clever nods to other songs, and some stunning 4 part vocal harmonies. Brilliant but it either did well in some national markets or (mostly) sank like a stone in other places.

"Fox On The Run" is a superb single. But I have to say I find the original UK album version (which is heavier and grittier) more interesting. Meatier, in a late 60s Yardbirds / Who / Stones pounder vibe with a monster lead guitar break by Andy Scott that was cut out from the later re-recorded hit single. But this hit single was the tune that set Sweet free from controlling management, record label, producers and Chinn & Chapman as songwriters.

"The Six Teens" might be the greatest song ever written by Nicky Chinn & Mike Chapman. ("No You Don't" is a close second. And "I Wanna Be Committed" a close third) And I don't think any of the bands they wrote for could have done it justice the way The Sweet did. Because they were superior musicians and had 4 guys who could sing, and any one of them could have been a top band's lead singer.

I love your take on one of my favorite bands ever. I am very late to the party but wish to share there are 4 fabulous vocalists in this band. Their harmonies are legendary. The switch between the talking and the singing that you speak of, for example, are Brian Connolly to Steve Priest. Priest is always the final highest note of the layered backing vocals. He was notorious for his high notes. He does all of the talking style vocals as well. He also was the creator of glam. Bowie once told him he went to far with the make up and he corrected Bowie by letting him know he just didn't get it. Very well known for that correction of Bowie who eventually came with Ziggy Startdust. A fantastic book Are You Ready Steve is his autobiography talks all about it. A fascinating story of how many thought Sweet were gay or bi thus the glam was created as a mockery. Like I said, I'm a lifetime fan and know just about all there is to know about this band.
