You're starting my favorite Iron Maiden album. I got this when it came out in 1983, before you were born. Man I'm old. This is the first album with drummer Nicko McBrain. It's my favorite Maiden drumming song. About the song It's based on an Alistair Maclean novel, (1967), and film (1968) about a WWII rescue of an American general from a Nazi stronghold in the Bavarian Alps.
Oh yeah... concise 😂The novel was fiction, but it was likely inspired by an actual rescue operation ordered by Hitler & executed by the German nazis in1943 to rescue deposed Italian dictator Benito Mussolini from his captors at a mountaintop resort. It was known as the Gran Sasso raid 😈
By far my favorite Maiden album and is often considered to be their best. This song is based on the novel and movie of an attempted rescue of an American general being held by the Nazis in a fortress high in the Bavarian Alps.
'Where Eagles dare' was based on the Clint Eastwood/ Richard Burton war movie from 1968 of the same name... Set in World War II, the story is about a military team tasked w/ a rescue mission - the target being a mountaintop fortress, high up in the Alps. Quite a few Iron Maiden songs were based on movie (or TV) plots... 'Run silent, run deep'... 'The Fugitive' ... 'The Prisoner'... 'Man on the edge' ... 'The Clansman' ... 'The Wickerman'... 'Children of the damned'... etc. Iron Maiden's 4th album 'Piece of Mind' (1983) is probably their heaviest record... Nicko McBrain (drums) had joined the band and his explosive drum intro opened the song (and album)... The previous drummer had a 'swing' beat, while Nicko was a heavy-hitter like John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. The tracks on the album include - 'The Trooper' ... 'Flight of Icarus' ... 'Die with your boots on'... 'To tame a land'... 'Revelations' ...🔥 Classics! The band members talked about Nicko joining the band and songs came together quickly... They discovered that the 'new guy' could pull off beats on the drums that Clive Burr could not; it was very beneficial to the band's evolution ... Steve Harris (bass) complained at first that Nicko kept playing parts the way he didn't write them, and the 2 would argue about what sounded better... Nicko had been fired by every band he had played drums for because he was so outspoken, but he & Harris would go back and forth... and that creative conflict would end up making a better Maiden song... And Nicko was a phenomenal live drummer, so he earned his place in Iron Maiden.

I've seen them many times in Los Angeles including the night filmed they The Live After Death Tour at The Long Beach Arena. AC/DC is my favorite band but Iron Maiden killed it that night. I still have my intact (with a few holes) Concert Shirt from that night. Concert Video is called LIVE AFTER DEATH filmed over 4 nights in LA ( 3 original nights plus 1 added due to demand) Unfortunately, they cut out Dave Murray's solo which happened as a transition at the end of POWERSLAVE with the "EGYPTIAN" tuning still in effect and straight into The Star Spangled Banner (Fucking Crazy!) We Yankees lost our shit! Bruce kept telling us to "Scream for Me Long Beach"!!! and I did until I lost my voice! Amazing night! ALL first five Studio Albums & LIVE AFTER DEATH deserve their own LIVESTREAM
There was a movie called where eagles dare Lady lol that's where they got it To quote Bruce Dickinson. Whatever the problem is Clint Eastwood is gonna figure it out.lol
Calm down. You don't need to duh a person if they never seen the film and don't know that. I don't research the meaning of these songs, I give you what I think it is. I love Clint Eastwoods movies but I haven't seen them all. Be kinder please when talking to others.
Its rare when a music group creates an entire album where the proceeding song is as good as the last. The boys did it on this album. TESLA did it once - MECHANICAL RESONANCE. Metallica did it twice - MASTER OF PUPPETS and …. AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. AC/DC did it 3 times - POWERAGE, LET THERE BE ROCK and HIGHWAY TO HELL. VAN HALEN did it 4 times - VAN HALEN, VAN HALEN II, FAIR WARNING and DIVER DOWN.
this album, although great, was tainted by three limitations: the sound, because it was not recorded as full, full-bodied and rounded as the others, and which certainly did not do it justice, the fact that it was the classic "middle" album between some masterpieces and others and being characterized only by 2/3 top songs (obviously above all "the trooper") and the rest... certainly nothing to tear your hair out.
I suggest after getting through the "classic" era albums (I predict you'll do "Seventh Son" as well, there will be a demand for it), their contemporary albums are worth listening to. It's a fairly ignored period on reaction channels, because of course everyone loves the classics. But the six albums after the year 2000 are well worth checking out, if you like the long, more intricate songs they do.
If I want to look nice and wear make up, I can and when I don't want to I will. You can not like my choice but please don't think you have a right to tell me this when there is actually people out there with lip fillers, injections and fake everything. You obviously haven't watched enough of my videos to see I go sometimes I don't wear make up. It's for me, not you. Kay, thank you.
Maybe you should ask your mirror who is the most beautifull creature and it will surely whisper in a scream "my wife n one of a kind little Sarah" I know it fuend
The entire Piece of Mind album is epic. Ever find one of those albums that need to be on your Bucket List? Yeah, it's this one.

I am excited to see this. So far the first 2 are amazing. You are right, few do that and I felt tgat way with metallica.
Not even a long song for Maiden, but a great one.
