    We have white fins. We think they make us more visible and easier to spot each other, and also use them to adjust white balance for cameras. They do get dirty though after 5-7 years not nearly as dirty as those. I've heard a magic eraser helps and I'm going to try a pressure washer.

    • @reefhound9902
      @reefhound9902 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Before digging out the pressure washer I decided to wipe Dawn over them, let them sit a few minutes, then lightly scrub with a magic eraser. The grime came off easy, in some places with a single wipe. I did two sets of fins in 20 minutes and they look almost new, except I didn't worry too much about the difficult places like inside the lettering.

      I tried everything……. One of the problems is the sunlight. Working in Asia the Fins are exposed over hours every day to the sunlight, that’s why the color changes to yellowish. Trying to remove this with al the different detergents destroyed the surface and the surface becomes kind of sticky………. Finally I get the Fins replaced from Apeks.

    Klausi I did not know you have this TH-cam channel. I hope you are doing very well back in your home country. I would like to point something out about this video and why it worked as well as it did for you because this could also very well have destroyed the masks. It was good that you first used a weak bleach solution and then disassembled the mask and only put the rubber/silicone part in the more concentrated bleach solution. If you put the complete mask with plastic frame in the concentrated bleach solution, the plastic frame WILL break. The plastic becomes very brittle in bleach and it will CRUMBLE between your fingers after. So if using this method, if you want to keep your mask, disassemble it first and only soak the rubber/silicone part.

    • @scubagadgethouse4755
      @scubagadgethouse4755 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jensi… you are absolutely right. Another problem is if you have a clear mask body, it will be not clear after this procedure anymore. It’s more opac let’s say. In general it’s not the best way to get this dirt out of the mask, but I didn’t find anything that works better. I liked clear mask body’s very much, but besides a black mask looks cooler I change to black masks for that reason.

      No I don’t replace the O-ring. But it’s not recommended at all. It’s totally on personal risk. The greasing is so simple, just put a tiny little bit of grease on your fingertip, then rotate the O-ring between two fingers.

    So you do twice the operating pressure for the test? How much would you put on air compressor tank? Ive heard 1.3 to 1.5 times the max operating pressure. I have an 80 Gallon tank rated at 200 psi. Its a 1998 model in good shape that we bought new. Im getting it up and running after it has sat 4 years and was thinking of doing my own hydrostatic test on it.

    • @scubagadgethouse4755
      @scubagadgethouse4755 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the test pressure depends of the kind of tank, the manufacturer and local laws........ To test the tanks you need to be certified by a local government office I think. You need to prove knowledge and proper working conditions (tools , pressure bank etc.). For many reasons you should not do this by your self. The example in the video is a local tank shop in Thailand. Purpose of the video was more likely to show trained people how insecure (in many aspects ) , this work will be done on exotic places in the world. What you see in the video is far away from standards in the US or Europe.

    • @RC-Heli835
      @RC-Heli835 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scubagadgethouse4755 I could hydrostatic pressure test my tank easy enough but its also tested for 200PSI at 650 degrees f and -20 degrees F. I can't do either of those. I've pressure tested drinking water pipe most of my life. By the time I pay to get all that done I might as well by a new tank. I was just sort of wanting to do a little something for my own piece of mind. I'm thinking 250PSI. ThIS compressor was designed to run 175 PSI.

    jetzt die entscheidende Frage, fliegt und die Scheibe nicht entgegen, wenn unser Kupferröhrchen gebrochen ist ? dann entsteht doch der Überdruck im Hohlraum und drückt die Scheibe raus

    • @scubagadgethouse4755
      @scubagadgethouse4755 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Das muss ich jetzt mit „ JAIN“ beantworten...... bei den Finimetern die ich bisher gesehen habe, gibt es entweder ein kleine Öffnung auf der Rückseite des Finis ( meistens mit einen Gummipfropfen verschlossen), dieser würde dann den Druck entweichen lassen. Also hier ein klares Nein! Aber in der Zwischenzeit hatte ich es tatsächlich bei einem Finimeter mit Plastikscheibe ( welche mit einem Oring im Rahmen gehalten wird) , das eben diese Scheibe 3 Meter durch den Raum geflogen ist und sich mit einem kräftigen „Plopp“ aus dem Rahmen verabschiedet hat. Die ist aber ansonsten ganz geblieben, hätte aber auf kurzer Distanz zum Auge möglicherweise zu Verletzungen am Auge führen können.

    • @BluesIsDerBeste
      @BluesIsDerBeste 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scubagadgethouse4755 Warum hast du es denn nicht gleich nochmal mit beschädigtem Kupferröhrchen nochmal zusammengebaut und getestet, wenn du dir schon die Mühe machst, das aufzukneifen? O.o Mal davon abgesehen, kenne ich mindestens eine Person, der nachweislich schon das Finimeter geplatzt ist und selbst die Hersteller geben in den jeweiligen Bedienungsanleitungen von Finimetern sowie Atemreglern an, es beim Aufdrehen vom Gesicht weg zu halten (und denen traue ich durchaus mehr technisches Verständnis auf ihrem eigenen Gebiet zu).. Dein Argument mit der hakenden Anzeige als Gefahrenpunkt macht durchaus Sinn, aber zu sagen, die könnten überhaupt nicht platzen, ist ganz großer Humbug. Natürlich sollten sie es nicht, aber offensichtlich ist es Punkt 1 möglich, sonst würden die Hersteller es nicht extra in die Bedienungsanleitungen schreiben und Punkt 2 schon viele Male passiert, denn sonst wäre niemand je auf die Idee gekommen, dass man es vielleicht nicht direkt Richtung Gesicht halten soll - und es würde nicht jedem Schüler im Tauchkurs beigebracht, das so zu machen, um im Falle eines Defekts des Gerätes eben naja... möglichst seine Augen zu behalten. Dass Material auch unter Beanspruchung über die Zeit ermüdet und dann eben mal z.B. so eine Lötstelle brechen kann, verdrängst du leider völlig.

      @BluesIsDerBeste 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...mal ganz abgesehen von Materialfehlern z.B. oder Produktionsfehlern. Es ist zwar unwahrscheinlich und selten von mir aus, aber gerade darum ist es auch vollkommen leichtsinniger Blödsinn, zu behaupten, es würde und könne nicht passieren. Erst recht, wenn es schon genügend Leuten passiert ist.

      @scubagadgethouse4755 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Blues, vielen Dank für Dein Feedback. Nochmals wieder zusammen bauen mit vorher zerstörter Glasscheibe macht ja nicht so viel Sinn. Und wie ich ja in meinem Kommentar weiter oben gesagt hatte ist mir in der Zwischenzeit ja tatsächlich bei einem “Mini “ SPG “ die Plastikscheibe herausgesprungen. Mir ist nicht ein einziger Fall bekannt bei dem eine Glasscheibe zerberstet ist wegen Innerhalb des Messinstruments aufgetretenen Druck. Ich habe mich dazu im vorwage bei erfahrenenTechnikern sowie 2 Produktmanagern von Herstellern gesprochen, auch diese haben gesagt, das Ihnen kein Fall von zerberstenden Finimetern bekannt sei. Also von meiner Seite nach besten Wissen und gewissen,behauptet. Interessant finde ich natürlich dennoch das Dir solche Fälle bekannt sind, wenn möglich würde ich gerne mehr Details dazu erfahren. Ich muss jetzt ehrlich zugeben das ich wohl sehr lange keine Bedienungsanleitung eines Atemreglers gelesen habe. Das werde ich kurzfristig nachholen… In der Regel kaufe ich die Atemregler für unser Dive Center separat und nicht in einer Konsole. Zumindest bei den hier erhältlichen Finimetern ist niemals eine Bedienungsanleitung dabei.

      Was not the first time that I clean that fins.. I started I think 3 weeks after I bought them.. in the beginning dishcleaner or washpowder was always ok.. over the the time the fins changed also the color, (getting this yellow ....). And of course the dirt was not removable anymore. So I start testing different things, I also soak then over nights in different solutions. Nothing really helped.. I think when I soak them in the bleaching solution, this was to aggressive had dissolved the surface from the fins.. They been after that always kind of sticky and just getting more dirty every day.. Conclusion is, if you work as an Instructor or DM, then never buy any white gear. Nothing else than black works for you.. hope that’s help.... cheers Klaus
