    So how do bench zones differ from squats?

    • @vbtcoach
      @vbtcoach 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Across all exercises, the ultimately differential is in the velocity scale. The speed of a 1RM bench for a strong lifter will be ~0.15m/s, while for the squat it's more likely to be around 0.25m/s, so this bumps the shape of the profile and the velocity values at all other %s up / down as well. Upper and lower body exercises also have a different max power point, with lower body usually having a narrower and lighter load at the point of max power. This is easy to overcome though, for a bench program just -0.1m/s from the same velocities used with the squat to achieve roughly the same results and intensities!

    Can you explain if the higher or faster number means the rep is faster. For example, if athlete rep 2 is 1.79 and rep 4 is 1.92 was rep 2 or 4 faster. Is it the higher number or lower number? I look at the VBT training zones and get confused at times for the numbers for ex I see starting strength roughly 1.3m/s but max strengths is .5 I know max strength would take longer due to the overall range of motion and heavier load where as starting strength is usually like inertia squats etc but im confused on the correct way to interpret the numbers from each rep, peak velocity, etc. Are we hoping to improve each rep and peak velocity or what's the overall KPI for the rep? Sorry I know I asked a lot

    • @vbtcoach
      @vbtcoach 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey no stress at all it can be a bit confusing! Higher velocity numbers mean a faster bar speed/velocity. This is measuring metres per second (so more metres every second will be a faster speed of movement) This zones stuff I personally find a bit distracting, this video explains a better way of looking at your training zones that brings VBT into focus: th-cam.com/video/MY_8dVkCwag/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-Np1FpwcWAaV4POJ

    So the thing here with your app I’ve been using it for my deadlift sessions. Is it possible for you guys to add a feature like using the accelerometer on the Apple Watch in conjunction with your app to help sublimate the velocity to make it more accurate? Like not making it the main feature but making it a companion feature. Instead of or together kinda deal. Because the watch is closest to the bar anyhow. Also, we all know that anyone who owns an iPhone has an Apple Watch. It be cool to be able not to need to record with my phone or take out a tripod etc. Just opening a companion app on my Apple Watch and keeping track of my velocity would make this a game changer. There are case studies online the Apple Watch is doing this it be cool for someone to make it commercially available. Understanding your philosophy of not needing extra components we making an assumption a very good assumption that everybody who owns an iPhone has an Apple Watch, especially in the gym. especially this will be useful for something Like the snatch which your app does have a hard time tracking.

    • @vbtcoach
      @vbtcoach 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is an interesting idea and its definitely on our long term road map. Although it would be quite a shift in direction for us to make given a move from computer vision (a direct measure) towards accelerometry (indirect). Accelerometer based VBT tracking has been notoriously unreliable and inaccurate, so while I very much like this idea, it is not without a bunch of challenges! Plus, Apple watch uptake is actually not that high as a % of iPhone owners, at around 10-13%. www.thurrott.com/wearables/apple-watch/247178/report-1-in-10-iphone-users-own-an-apple-watch When doing your snatches have you tried using the advanced recording mode? this makes tracking on Oly lifts much more reliable!

  • @maadman117
    @maadman117 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The velocity may be low with a large weight, but the real point is: it should be the highest concentric velocity you can achieve with good form with that weight. A VBT gadget is useless if you do bodybuilding style controlled concentrics, in fact the readings (say estimated 1RM or RIR) will be way off track. A VBT unit is great for motivating you to use maximum RFD regardless of the weight....

    • @vbtcoach
      @vbtcoach 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Spot on, although not useless fro bodybuilding style training, you can still look at the tempo metrics, tonnage, strain etc and see how well and consistently you are controlling the weights!

    Im curious what physiologists say about backside mechanics becoming more important as the distance becomes longer. Eric sowinski has fantastic backside mechanics because he rocks side to side (yaw) in a way that has the effect of making him run like he is running downhill. I used to rick side to side for added leverage back in my miler days and for me it was the most efficient way for me to maintain speed. Here is sowinskis best performance where you can see his genius mechanics. m.th-cam.com/video/smqkXFlS-iA/w-d-xo.html
