I remember and build both in theire original boxings as a kid. I did like Mathbox as a brand the best, before Tamiya came around. Thanks for sharing, both are quite pleasing models in the end <3

I used to love building the Matchbox kits as a kid. A big fan of the scenic bases they came with.

First kit I ever built in the 70’s, bought it with 50p I was given, no money for paint, glue everywhere, why did Matchbox do them is such strange colours

Hi. I have made both of the Marders and there good little kits. Some details are a bit soft but these can be replaced with plasticard or rod. Good models at a good price. Nice job.

I remember building this one when i was about 8 years old, matchbox were brilliant kits for their time. I always think the current airfix range would do alot better if they included matchbox style diarama stands with their kits 🤔

UM makes russian tanks that no one else makes, esp in 1/72. like the T-26, Bt2,5,7 and others. I made a Su-76M. Definitely moderate to advanced level, all the parts are tiny, and as you say reference material is needed to see where some parts go. Yours came out very nice.

I buy from PMS Plastic Model Store in Ukraine. It should be mentioned, the country is being bombed. Airfix and Tamiya are not :) The kits are good models, and the store has better prices, better shipping and can get them to me faster than Airfix can get me theirs. Tamiya doesn't make 72nd scale vehicle kits. Old Airfix kits CAN be abominable. New tooling kits are great though.

Remember when Matchbox came on the scene with their kits and kicked Airfix in the butt with their indentation panel lines and precise fit. Nice work. (Had the Bristol Beaufighter myself which was ace.)

They look pretty good. Better than the abomination that Airfix released as a 1/72 scale Tiger 1. Which company in the U.K. did you get them from?

One of the Matchbox car catalogues fro the 70s had a cross-promotion picture of the 1/76 AFVs, a Honey on the transporter, with the LRDG 'meeting' them on a road in the desert. I remember it well and it was about then I switched from die cast to making models. I built both these in the day, and the M19 more recently for a Britmodeller group build. I am surprised nobody makes aftermarket tracks for 1/72 models: there are thousands of older kits out there with tracks missing or useless. Yet there are 20 companies making Panther tracks in 1/35, even though most kit tracks are fine.

30p wouldn't buy a bag of crisps today, even the last remaining phone boxes are 40p for a couple of seconds.

MPC also had a version of that kit. The first kit I built that I felt looked good. It came in MPC's usual white styrene. Hand painted it aluminum with yellow wings. My take on pre-war US Navy color scheme. Nice work.

I remember doing that. No paint needed. I lived very close to thenSeletar Air Base where they were stationed. .And played on a wreck as a boy. By the way the Buffalo had a 2 to 1 kill rate until overwhelmed. Squadrons on Burma preferred it to their Hurricanes. It holds a 42 to 1 kill rate. The highest of s prop aircraft. Not bad for a bad plane.

Airfix released a buffalo in RAF markings but the kit is actually the navy version. It can be converted with work. The matchbox is a far more rare kit.

Fantastic build, I have so many happy memories of Matchbox kits; you do them justice with your exceptional modeling skills. Please keep them coming!

Glam Rock model😂.. Why do people use dark green for the interior? It was usually light interior green. I've never seen dark green used as cockpit colours in the real aircraft? The darkest green I've seen is chromite green and that is lighter than that.

never understood why matchbox kits failed but airfix survived , airfix were decades behind matchboxes quality , imagine where matchbox would be now if they survived

Hi. A very nice job indeed. I have made this kit but I put a Higgins boat on mine. I had to make the frame for the boat to sit on , that was a model in itself. I drilled out the tie down loops on my trailer and I did it in green overall. I have another one in my stash but for some reason the previous owner cut off the front of the Diamond T's chassis. So I have had to make a new chassis. I will do that one in a dessert scheme. Not sure what I will put on the back of it , maybe a Sherman M4 A2. Or a truck of some type . We,ll see. Good job well done my friend.

Came across your channel today after looking up MB kits. Great work. I made a lot of these in the early 80s as they were just about pocket money prices. Should it go the other way round as the tracks in the sand don't follow under the front wheels? Maybe the pivot would allow the trailer to fit round that bend. If not, I guess you could melt some in with a hot screw driver.

My mum and grandparents never really understood me. From age 7 to 14 they would buy me hundreds of kits like this of planes and tanks and ships and I would make them very badly and very quickly and then smash them up in my war games with toy soldiers (which I loved then and still love now). For me all I wanted was a couple of those solid metal planes or tanks that a kid could throw across the room and not break instead of these annoying and fragile models all the time. I never got the matchbox(?) rugged metal toys that were appropriate for my destructive gameplay but i have probably 'killed' more plastic planes, tanks and ships than every other kid in my town combined. Sad really because today I can appreciate that they are small peices of art and engineering.

Wonderful work and fun to watch, so good to see Matchbox kits again👍✌️😊 When I was a kid, my dad used to deliver to Matchbox (Peterborough iirc🤔), and the guys there would give me the odd freebie kit to go home with - I always liked that trip in the school hols. I'm afraid that I didn't do the kits much justice, I would now (of course), but I was only 6 years old or thereabouts 😀

There's something special about these Matchbox AFV builds - maybe it's because, back in the day, the multi coloured plastic meant you never actually painted them?!

I have an original Matchbox BF109 and just acquired a top opening Matchbox FW190. Neither will be built lol.

As I watched you open the kit, my first thought was that red is going to be fun to paint over, unless you prime it like you did. When I first began model kit building priming before paint was not a technique I was familiar with.

I have some Micro mask and had the same results as you untill i found out the stuff is water soluble even when dry. It is easy to remove with a cotton bud or a stiff short bristle brush. It is actually quite good for canopies. The bottle says not for water based paints hence the difficulty you had trying to peel it like maskol. If you had washed it off with water I'm willing to bet you would have had better results. I'm still finding out what i can do with the stuff but so far I've found that it doesn't leave a ragged edge like maskol. I used it to mask the metal areas of a 1/144 Revell F15 and was very happy with it.
