Love these builds. It's great to see such old kits get this amount of TLC. Also, as someone who commutes through country lanes to work I can fully relate to the "I'm not washing my car at this time of year" sentiment 😂
Always an immense pleasure to watch you transform old kits from sow's ears to silk purses. You have a natural touch and an eye for weathering and that ability makes a real difference. Keep up the good work. 👍
I found one of these in my son-in-laws pile of belongings after he left home. An oldie but a goodie, so much so I bought the re-release from Airfix and Looking forward to building it. I scratch cobbled together an instrument panel for the old one but I have a bought panel for the new one. Really nice finish on your Boomer, great stuff.
Being an Aussie, I loved this build. It looks to be a great little simple but well detailed kit, thanks again for doing this build up, it really turned out well despite the old decals. Always nostalgically entertaining.
Thank you for building my favourate plane, i have built many of these Boomerang kits, but i still love watching others built the kit with comments, fantastic job. thank you for sharing.
The only two in that scale that I’m aware of is one from Special Hobby and one from LTD, as for their quality I don’t know I haven’t seen or built them. 👍
@@sentimentalbloke185 I have built the KIWi WINGS 1/48, and own 10 more,, LTD 1/48 I have built several and own 5 more, I own a resin version, and I have about 4 Special Hobby 1/48, ca-12 and Ca-13. The Kiwi Wings i used a slow running grinder to cut all the heavy veins on the molding process. But the kits come up okay. LTD is a basic kit, finishes nice. I wanna build my Special Hobby but waiting to get my hobby area set up when I move.
Great job on this.. had one beat up from dad's collection from the 70s. I've a matchbox Lysander in the stash too so be great to see your build 😁👍 painting an Airfix 88 and tractor over Xmas. Best wishes
I remember this was my first kit, it was in the 70's and I was maybe 10-12 years old. I painted with Humbrol brushes and paints. My mind exploded...these rivets from the old Airfix kits were amazing. Seeing those thick lines on the panels and without rivets of the modern Airfix kits have disappointed me. I know it's a mere matter of taste, but somehow they have lost that magic they had.
The RAAF Boomerang is a pugnacious stubby aeroplane serving with great success as a target spotter for RNZAF Corsairs and RAAF Kittyhawks as well. Great build from an original Airfix bagged kit!
Tip: When using dubious old transfers I always utilise the underwing or not so obvious markings first in case they fail or need extra care when applying.
Great job on that one! Believe I had my eye on that exact same kit at Telford, instead I came away with a Heller Morane-Saulnier M.S.406. Terrible decision! I've built the Airfix Boomerang and enjoyed it, the Heller M.S.406 is much less enjoyable.
I also use my distressed thinners where I used it to clean brushes as a weathering solution. As it had so many different enamel colours in the residue it seemed to work well
Just wondering, why don't you prepaint details like cockpit interior, wheels/tires, struts and engine before assembly and overall painting? 🤔 On an old kit like this, I use a decal liquid to make sure they don't crack. Testors makes a decal spray and Microscale makes a brush-on decal liquid. A clear acrylic could work too.
I prefer to build as much as possible before painting, just my way. I think it’s easier to tie in the weathering. I also think it can speed up a build too.
But the old instructions were better than the current ones, it used to say " locate and cement part x to part y " then you moved to the next instruction, those were the days.usually a jelly baby figure.
Lovely build. If you want to see a great video of two restored Boomerangs and the characteristic howl they make when diving, this is my favourite video. th-cam.com/video/5kdeLANvbPw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=HKHYCXg6eAEhjnur
Thanks for the video. I've recently bought a slightly later iteration of the same kit and look forward to tackling it. As the transfers will not be quite as old I'm hoping that they will be o.k. Best wishes for the festive season and for 2025.
Great job. Amazing save on those transfers.
Lovely job on that one mate😃
Nice work 👍🏻
Thanks for sharing, I built one of these as a kid. Nice work

"relaxed flying position"
Being Australian, he probably had a stubby holder mounted in the cockpit & half a dozen travellers stashed under the seat.
👍
I should have scratch built those items, would have made an interesting addition. 👍

Great little historic kit. Very nice mate!
Nice Old Kit well Done Very Nice❤
Excellent build there's a lot to learn off old kits

Thank you, hopefully I can find some more interesting kits for next years build videos 👍
very nice lil kit ... I just bought the vintage classic version of this, I hope mine turns out half as well . thank you
Good luck.

Can recommend a good 1/48 version, please?

@@creativetimewasting Ta. I found the Special Hobby, looks ok but unavailable atm. Never heard of LTD.

Great to see this model. It was the first kit I bought from Woolworths when I was about 9 years old.
The work you pull off with these 72nd aircraft make me wonder what you could do with the ancient 1/600 scale ships they did!
Excellent work with that classic, it's a shame about the problems that old decals always cause.
I could have replaced them but I was determined to build the kit as is.

Great little model that can be elevated to competition standard too
Stunning 👍👍
Happy Christmas Creative Time wasting lovely Boomerang 🎄🎁
Thank you, Happy Christmas to you too 👍
I think that the transfers work well and are in keeping with a well used aircraft in the tropics.
Beauty! 👌🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Love to have a tour of your workbench and working area.
I will try to do one over the Christmas break 👍

Even the new 1/48 scale B-36 Marauder from ICM is missing rivet detail, a bit disappointing because it’s a lovely kit otherwise.
Cracking job, wish i had your patience with decals, they're a nightmare for me.
These were past their best but I think I got the best out of them.

Seems to be packing a bit of fire power too.

Built one of these recently. Newer box but same mould, I think. Maybe not the most detailed kit but very enjoyable to build.
🏆🥇

Thanks, and yes this is the kit I picked up at Telford this year. Looking forward to next year to try to pick up a few more gems.
Might avoid Heller…
@@creativetimewasting Some Heller kits are fine, their Saab Lansen is very nice. But I would stay away from the earlier stuff.
@ the last one I built was their 1/72 scale Sherman tank. It was quite good.
I dissolve sprue in cement until it's a soup or stew then use that as a filler it brushes easily and uses capillary action to fill the gaps

Always looks an angry wee aircraft
Everything went well until you came to the decals😂 Nice build altogether😀
It the risk you take with old kits.
You are making me nervous with that sharp knife on those decals
Years of practice, with only minor nicks along the way…

Get yourself a circle cutter. Use it on wide masking tape and just airbrush roundels.
@@akula9713 I do have one but because of the raised detail, rivets etc, I suspect I would have had a bit of bleed through.
@@creativetimewastingI use a DSPIAE MT-EC Stepless Circular Cutter. Great for masking wheels and roundels.
