That's probably the most beautiful Matchbox kit produced. I would like to find one and build it. Congratulations, very nice build. Thanks for posting the video and bringing so much memories of my young years.
I alway find it amazing just how good some of these vintage models come out using modern materials and techniques. It's hard to believe they are +/- 50 years old. It's a pity they are so hard to find and not more readily available. Thanks for sharing a blast from the past. Makes me regret cleaning out my hord of many of these older kits that are muck more simpler to build than any of the multi version, ultra detailed modern toolings. Ahhhh! simpler and more innocent days.
You've got a winner there, with those Matchbox build videos. I love watching them. My first kits were Matchbox kits. I bought a Buffalo recently, for old times sake. It was one of my first. 😊
Fantastic results on this venerable old kit, really well done!! I remember these kits at 35p, I got 50p a week pocket money so one week I bought one kit then every other week I bought two kits IF I'd been good and helped Mum around the house to earn the extra 5p. I remember making this Lysie, but I think I left it in the two tone plastic with no decals (decals never stayed on bare plastic). Thanks for the good tip re thinning Citadel shades with water for better capillary action. I'll return the favour with a tip that you can turn any Citadel colour (and probably any acrylic paint) into a shade using Citadel Lahmian Medium. Being a medium you can mix it with tiny amounts of colour to make virtually transparent shades (the same level of dilution with water would completely break down the paint structure). Lahmian Medium's viscosity makes it act more like a filter than a wash in that it doesn't collect in panel lines etc. though the same 'add water for better capillary action' tip also works here. Being able to make a really subtle filter in any colour is a game changer for those times when you've painted a model but the shade is 'just not quite right', you can put thin coats of almost transparent colour over the top until the shade is spot on! And those tall Citadel shades pots are a devil for tipping over and spilling everywhere... wrap some aluminium foil around the shade pot a squish it into a tight collar around the base of the pot. No more spills 😊
@@doczoff5655 I’ve seen the Lehman Medium demonstrated by Duncan Rhodes on his TH-cam channel, good stuff and I think the Gamesworkshop do offer some good products. Stay tuned for more Matchbox soon.👍
Another excellent build. Matchbox kits for their age are superb and would give some modern kits a run for their money. Pity they stopped producing them.
As a kid of the 80s I built loads of Airfix...but I LOVED matchbox kits. Something about them. I bought a MB 1:32 BF109 from my local department store (McDowells of Halstead) cheap because it had no instructions. I built it without as it was very logical. The biggest plane I had. Wonderful, wonderful kits. Top job on this, looks ace!
I think - if I'm remembering rightly - Matchbox were one of the first to start using predominantly recessed panel lines in the early '70s....Airfix and Revell (which I also loved - until Matchbox came along!!) still used massive raised panel lines on their kits; on the 1/72 they were like low walls all over it!! I remember building and loving this Lysander (got mine in the earlier top opening boxing), with only the minimal painting - pilot, exhaust, and tyres, and yes, transfers straight onto bare plastic! It looked wonderful like that; the two tone brown plastic was perfect for the Lysander!
@@mybluebelly that is correct....would do a 1/72 kit IF i can find a set of decals for an aircraft of the Irish Air Corps.....yes ireland did use them.....and it's not often we see Ireland represented in the modelling world.

Thanks, yes I’ve used Matchbox decals from the 1970s with no issues. I don’t think the rear canopy would open unless you used it to create a vacform part for the correct thickness. 👍
Very nice. For my money the Matchbox is the best of the "big 3" Lizzie kits of that era, despite the heavy detail. Those AK paints go on nicely but I don't think they are close to the correct colors, especially the dark green. Excellent quick build.
I liked building mine, but I don't hold the detail in high praise. They were forgiving for the beginner, which is something a lot of companies are neglecting. For a long time it was the only way to build a Halifax. Airfix has some "easy kits" out, but the import duties put the price higher than the 'good' kits over here!
I know cameras can make things appear different, but that green is almost an apple green as i can see it. The dark earth looks ok. For some reason, your sound levels are really low too, which is a shame because I love your accent 😊
Everything is done on my phone so yes sound/colours don’t convey 100% accurately. Lighting is great either. But I have promised if the channel does ok I will invest in a proper camera and better lighting for improved quality. As for the accent, that’s impossible to improve… Thanks for watching.
As you can see in the video the glass on the canopy was masked again before varnishing, this was then removed and a gloss varnish was applied to the glazing 👍

As for the accent, that’s impossible to improve…
Thanks for watching.
great build how did you get the shine on the canopy after passing the mat varnish coat ?
As you can see in the video the glass on the canopy was masked again before varnishing, this was then removed and a gloss varnish was applied to the glazing 👍
👌👌👌👌
