Mixed Media Art: Making Hand-Stitched Journals Using Your Own Artwork
You can use your own artwork as the cover art for amazing journals with hand-stitching in colorful thread. With Coptic Bookbinding, you can make handmade journals that always lay flat using any combination of mixed media paper (for wonderful art journals), or high quality bleed-proof paper for journaling and note-taking. My favorite is a mixture of the two!
To learn the steps involved in making these journals, you can join me in "Hand-Stitched", my new class opening for enrollment very soon. Sign up for the waiting list here and get info as soon as it's ready: marabethquinart.myflodesk.com/hand-stitched

How to Mix Harmonious Colors Using a Mother Color What in the world is a mother color?? Strange name but after you watch this video, you'll understand why it's called 'Mother Color'. All artists have to figure out how to mix harmonious colors, and there are a number of tactics you can use to go about it, but this one is a great place to start! I just finished up my first round of my class, Colo...

Understanding Complementary Colors for Beginner Artists
มุมมอง 1.6Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Whether you are a beginner artist or a very experienced one, there's a chance that, like me, you've found color to be a bit difficult. Maybe you're passionate about color but struggle to make the concepts second nature...the truth is that anyone can learn the basics of color theory, but truly internalizing them is a different challenge. So I've recently taken myself on a quest to take color con...

Making a Mixed Media Collage Floral Painting
มุมมอง 4.2K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Making a Mixed Media Collage Floral Sometimes paintings come together quickly, and sometimes, like this one, they can get started and then sit for a year before I feel the urge to finish it. I’ve learned to go by feel and not push it. I think one of the things I love about this painting is that the base layers were from a different time, and the finishing layers are more representational of whe...

I look forward to finding out more Marabeth! 😍
Thank you!
Turn off the music please
I love these. I’m very excited to learn how to create them.
It blows my mind how many artists on TH-cam are left handed :)
Med exam paper doesn't perform very well on a gel plate (you have to pull fast while it's wet, don't let it get a little dry). It falls apart really fast but my tissue paper will hang in there will I pull prints.
These are absolutely gorgeous! I love how you continue to take your art to the next level. Thank you for sharing your art with us. ❤
I think I say it every time, but everything you do is so beautiful, Marabeth! Your videos are very meditative, and I liked the font you used for the instructions on screen I think it suits your art perfectly.
The finished product is so Marabeth! Beautifully done. ❤❤❤
wowww that is such a beautiful piece of art! I'll sure try this technique since I have what it takes... I just don't have the talent of painting such beautiful flowers like you do... Thank you so much for sharing!
I make mine with watercolor paper. Very satisfying.
This is exactly what I was looking for. I love to collage and I've been experimenting with watercolor and I miss eclectic monoprinting. So much fun! Thanks Marabeth!
I am so going to do this course! I've seen oodles of journals made but this looks so neat and professional. 🤗
These are gorgeous! I've tried this and it's a lot harder than I thought - I hope to take your class on this topic. Amazing!
Thank you! Can't wait to do your course. 🌼
I see some of my art becoming another wonderful treasure. How inspirational ❤❤
Beautiful! 😍
Love these!! Inspiring!! ~❤~
Beautiful!!
I love your work. Ina, South Africa. Well done!
Well said. Every person is an anthology-a collection or collage of stories. At least, that's how I describe it when I catch a glimpse of the whole picture. You use different words, but perhaps we see the same thing. Your art is amazing.
Thank you so much for the kind words! And I love how you put it-each person is a collection/collage of stories. Just beautiful.
Beautiful!! Can this process been done on an oil painting?
You can, although I’ve never done it myself. You would have to use different methods of adhering it to the surface, however, since you can use acrylic mediums over oil paint.
Very pretty! ❤️🌹
Thank you! 😊
Thank you Marabeth for this beautiful demonstration. Love your art. It is very beautiful, calming and joyful ❤
Thank you so much! Xoxo
Will any acrylic medium work? For instance, I have matte fluid medium - will that work, too?
Yes, it would. I’ve only tried the Golden Glazing medium, but any acrylic medium will do the same thing, although they might have different textures, etc.
@@marabethquinart thanks!
Love love love!
Thanks so much! ❤️
Hi do you mix paint with glazing.??
Yes, when I want a glaze I just mix acrylic with the Golden Satin Glazing Liquid and it works nicely!
A beautiful piece of work. I love glazing medium. It really does give a depth and jewel like finish. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes from Cornwall, UK.
Thank you so much! And I totally agree about the glazing medium 😊
A beautiful piece which I am sure the recipient will treasure forever. What kind of tissue paper do you use. Is it acid free?
I used to use various kinds of tissue, some of it acid free but now I’ve switched to medical exam paper-I can buy it in rolls and in bulk so it’s consistent in the way it behaves and it’s also more economical
I was a huge fan of your singing back in the day and bought everything you were a part of. Your stage presence, your gorgeous hair and eyes and your voice were ❤. I’ve always wondered how you are and if you were able to find peace and happiness bc you certainly went through your fair share of misery. You were always an inspiration to me and it’s good to find you still being creative!
Hi Nikki! Thank you for your kind words-truly so sweet. I am extremely happy and all the misery was worth it. 😊
@@marabethquinart oh this makes me so happy!
Hi what do you use to paint over your pastels , to let them dry before you use them .
Are you talking about soft pastels? I think I’m misunderstanding your question because I don’t believe I used any pastels in this painting (or did I? 🤪) Can you rephrase the question to help me understand?
@@marabethquinart Not sure what you tube I watch of yours..In one of them you put something over you flowers to dry before you could use them. Was it satin glazing ? or maybe you use acrylic paint .
Your work is beautiful. Why do you use glazing medium as opposed to ordinary medium bearing in mind you are papering over the top?
Thank you! I use the Glazing medium because I also do a lot of paint glazes in my process, so it’s interchangeable. But I’ve also used others like matte medium and like it better-it seems to be a bit thinner and doesn’t get all over my fingers as much.
what brand of pastels are these?? The color is so vibrant. I looked on the Favorite Supplies list but didn't see any pastels
I used several different brands in the video, I believe. Probably some Sennelier or Rembrandt
You might try separating the towel, even if I use it with watered down acrylic I can usually get it to separate! Then it is a thin layer like the tissue! Love your work!
Thank you! And Yes, you’re right! I discovered that after I made this video awhile back-it’s certainly easier.
What an absolutely stunning painting! Really gorgeous! Going to order some of this satin, I use gloss medium because everyone says that matte can effect the color of your paint or collage, but I'll give this a shot. Thank you for sharing this! 🌻
Yes, I don’t use the matte because it dulls the color and surface so much-some like that, but I don’t so much. I bet you’ll like the Satin!
Fascinating! 💜💜💜
It really is!
Thank you! ❤
You're welcome 😊
I took your first color class and, although I'm behind on completing the templates and assignments, I have learned SO much about color. I can't wait to get everything done in a workbook that will be helpful for the rest of my painting lifetime. Thank you SO much for making color and harmony so understandable!
I’m so happy you’re having a great experience with the class, Dianne! And you’re not behind at all-learning something like color really is best when you go at your own pace. Xoxo
Wow, that’s wonderful. Presumably I can do this with watercolour as well?
I haven’t tried it personally yet, but yes, I’m sure it works!
I've heard the term before, but never understood the concept! Thank you for explaining it to us!
You are so welcome, my pleasure!
❤❤❤
Thanks for watching Patty!
Great info. TFS!!
You are so welcome!
I'm familiar with the concept of a Mother colour, yet you explain it so clearly and as always, with such JOY! Thank you for sharing this. ❤❤❤ A new posting from your channel is an incredible treat.
That’s such a sweet thing to say! I truly appreciate you watching 😊
You should emphasize the MEDIUM you are using.
I did, Gina-you must have missed that part. It’s Golden Satin Glazing Medium
What beautiful covers!
Thank you!
Are u using a watercolor brush or synthetic for acrylic paint ? Thank you !
Honestly, I have no idea. 😆 I’m not very good at taking care of my brushes, I have to admit. I rarely spend a lot on brushes for that reason.
