Hunting Horn my beloved.
Give oils.
Can you explain 5:45 more? What would make 3 switch axe players doing 40 DPS for free, be worse than 3 dual blades players doing 50 DPS for free? What's special about switch axe in the multiplayer setting?
I forgot to mention that SA has exhaust CC which needs to be accounted for not only in DPS but in a multiplayer context
Your advice has been amazing in helping me improve and is not covered by 99.9% of other MH content creators. Especially the part about identifying the recovery of your weapon's moves, selecting the appropriate move for the opening after each attack of the monster and then switching back to neutral (instead of comboing, i.e. overcommiting). For some reason most beginner MH guides focus on highest dps combos, which are useless unless you have a topple (or a speed-running script). Weirdly enough I found that the best weapon (for me) to learn that gameplay style is the Greatsword, using draw attack-roll-sheathe (unless I have a big enough opening for SCS, TCS). I have never touched the GS before trying it for this strategy and it did wonders. In contrast, SnS (which I was maining) feels like it takes forever without commiting to longer combos.
I have a question though. When the monster is not enraged, it is slower and its openings a little longer. Doesn't that mean that you can achieve higher dps uptime? Is it worth it to continuously enrage it for the extra damage from Agitator, wall-bang (and I think enraged monsters take slightly more damage)? Does the answer change depending on your skill level, i.e. veterans should try enraging always, while beginners should avoid it?
Enrage is triggered off a dmg threshold when not enraged. So it makes no sense to "slow" your dmg during non-enrage If this doesn't make sense say something
Forward poke and/or forward over head then spiral would be nice, and fast enough to use too
ForOH,2,spiral needs to be 3 hit while 1stationary,spiral can be 2 hit because it needs to reward positioning
@@naota909 I would love to see a two hitter spiral like you said, rewarding and keeps the sword up longer
The switch axe still need a lot of work tbh. The changes they have shown just poorly tackles the issues some of the new additions they’ve brought to the weapon. It seems like all they’ve done with these most recent changes is double down on the “Full Release Slash” when the concerns were about that move, becoming too centralizing for dps. And never addressed other issues such as under-developed moveset and weapon mechanics. Speed it up and changing MVs should not be only approach to fixing the weapon. I do agree with you for the most part tho
- Slow a** sword swings that completely killed the sword combo - Terrible axe move set - Terrible gauge management - No gauge regeneration when weapon is out anymore - Can't switch after gauge is consumed anymore, (forces you into reload animation) - Self damage "counter" (offset) - Completely killed all discharge moves - Forced "play style" with Counter and Full release spam (zZzz) I was already so happy with the world version, I can live without the rise switch axe, but wilds switch axe is horrible and easily the worst version of all time since 2009.
One theory I have is that it's meant to be patched w armor skills which could explain why it's ass out of the box. Which is a bold move Not defending, just a theory
Maybe why the swaxe was intentionally slowdown becasue they are bringing rapid morph back but then again that only affects morph attacks and spiral burst(maybe), also imo FRS shouldve been buffed but i hoped it doesnt overcentralize the gameplay loop with swaxe making it spam a single move where i think the main appeal is doing combos with the weapons. Which is way i dont spam zsd or ed in the other game, its not as satisfying.
Rapid morph is back
Very good points, agreed
The attack and movement speed are what made it feel most foreign. It felt slower than GU and old games
In the community livestream, they seemed to have buffed FRS. If you check the damage numbers against chatacabra and compare them to the beta, they are higher, but they didn't mention any sword swing damage buffs. I really hope they did. But the first bullet point on the PowerPoint seems to allude to it. Here's to hoping😅.
didn't watch capcom pls be quiet and just give me demo xD
5:45 wouldn’t this also apply to dual blades? I think I’m missing something. Because with DB doing more than double the dps, a team of 4 DB players seems like more of a problem than 4 SA players.
yes but SA has exhaust, i forgot to mention that similar reason to why hammer can never have S tier damage on par with DB basically anything with CC needs to be regulated heavily
@@naota909 That's why HBG never does the highest damage in the game, and if it did it wouldn't have access to para and KO while also being able to bring full dps... oh no wait it does have the highest dps, and it's better at para and KO then melee weapons at the same time. Not saying weapons with CC shouldn't have some kind of damage adjustment to balance them, but they sure don't apply that balancing philosophy for every weapon.
@@naota909sure, using exhaust phial should lower your damage. its swaxe with power/element phials that should be more competitive with other weapons.
@Cosmopaladin that's a Capcom problem not mines xD Y'all need to get out of your head that "b/c Capcom did it, it's correct!" Case and point: MH Wilds SA
@ That makes sense. Thanks!
Are you going to do a great sword dps showcase for wilds?

Im stealing your spreadsheet formatting sytle for my own MH statistical stuff LOL. Really comprehensive layout. Curious what those gray numbers just to the right of the names are though. Are they MVs? Feel like it should be obvious but they aren't labeled so... XD
Those are frames from the recordings. They're useless to you
How to get arthritis
Hey just want to point out the sheathe strike is another really quick way to get into axe mode just hit l2 or rt when sheathed and then you can combo from there also i believe you can shield sharge just by y+b twice then rt no need for the first slash
damage is pathetic. i fear the "buffs" will not be enough to bring swaxe back to its former glory. i hope im wrong tho. what they showed in the community update does NOT have me hopeful tho. the changes feel VERY tonedeaf and lackluster.
I could fix it Not my job tho
@@naota909 it should be, lord knows you probly know more about the game than most of the people fuckin working on it.
@@scragglie it needs a lot of work I'll probably make a video on it for fun thanks for the idea ☮️
@@naota909 hell yea man, looking forward to it.
I don’t know man. I consider myself pretty casual because I only learn boss patterns when I can’t handle them with reflexes/ by feel. Beat the dlc also in 2 days before radahn nerf. Although I do use the mimic in most fights. Anyways all I’m saying is I beat the game as a casual, it just felt like BS sometimes
would've been nice to see the triangle combo > triple slash > ED > full release because the animations are changed and damaged is improved when double slash is used at the end of the triangle combo, same with ED
Surprised full release only did 21 dps. Guess thats why its getting the buffs
this will be a good frame of reference for the buffs to the weapon that the devs have confirmed.
Tldr: weapon moves way too slow for the amount of dmg it does even w buffed axe, amped sword and phial flat dmg
Good to see you're still doing these
lol when I started with glaive and great sword right out the gate on keyboard. I didn’t know what the heck was going on
I think LS is a pretty easy weapon to learn but hard to master
dude dont ignore Kulve Taroth, you may not care but that is the only reason i decided to watch this video
Dead game. Don't care
Hey man just found your channel and I have to say I'm digging this content's format. Very educational and valuable.
There was a combo where you use Leaping Thrust into Guard Dash but it got nerfed.
What's the move that makes player fly? I want to avoid that.
yo what song is that i recognize it but i'm not sure what from
th-cam.com/video/yYslfH5vuiU/w-d-xo.html
Loving these deeper dives into combos. It's a nice breath of fresh air from the overabundant beginner's guides.
would be funny if they would rebalance the dps on release lol
if its a MV change, literally the easiest re-calculation / flip a number in the spreadsheet if its a frame animation change - they're too conservative to do this, so highly unlikely
@@naota909 if there would be big changes made then maybe it is just "flip number in the spreadsheet" but also "video is outdated, might as well trash it" + u will get ppl too lazy to watch new video and thats how misinformation wars begin with ppl saying that A combo is better than B combo :d i think whatever they made right now is fine tho. if they will want to change something i think it would happen on DLC release with new moves added.
When you say you can’t hit an active hitbox, is that for blademasters only or does it also apply to gunners?
bm's
Wild's Dual Blades are looking...well wild. Loving the dps breakdowns. It looks like Dual blades are going to be a little bit more involved. I kinda feel like every weapon is slowly becoming more like a fighting game character with each release & I am here for it.
Love these kinds of videos; looking forward to your analysis of the other weapons. One thing I'm curious about, though I doubt it can be determined with currently available data, is how wound-breaking and focus strikes will compare with the standard combos, as well as how creating/destroying wounds should be thought about when considering how to achieve the fastest killtime. There are some interesting things to unpack, like destroying single wounds vs. accumulating wounds and popping all at once, wound-break damage of focus strikes vs. regular combos, wound-creating efficiency of each combo (seems to favor multi-hit?), etc.
One thing nobody is talking about is the fact that FS'es on wounds are basically light CC My intuition tells me you should be popping wounds w/ FS'es as quickly as possible. Some weapons have exceptions especially those with resource management bonuses from wound popping. DW gonna analyze this on further patches.
Not a main Dual blade here (More SnS) but even with SnS i wasn't sure how to perform any kind of attack. It's probably to much work but i would love to see imput for exemple L : Ligth attack For Y/Triangle ?/LMB H : Heavy attack so B/Square ?/RMB S : Special (Guard/Spirit slash, etc...) LH : Y+B ML : Movement + L M-B : Movement back + B => SnS back hope for exemple More clearer for every type of player and can be use for any language (LS is not the same in French/Dutch, etc....) but maybe it's to much work
but as usual this is a golden mine of information :)
I wish there was a side visual of what you were explaining but the acronyms are absolutely wild 😂 I get it, it's 2 if not 3x the work but I don't think this will make sense to people trying to crank up their numbers.. Heck i'm 100+ hours in DB rise but this goes way past me brother.
band aid solution: theres a vid where he showcased all dbs moves with dps and the acronyms with it
are you going to make a video like this for bow?
My made a oath to the great sword god to never switch and I sadly must stand by the great sword
The clashes are kind of goofy. how can the hunters hold back 10 ton monsters lol?
Subscribe for more data driven guides
Does Demon Mode still have damage bonuses like in Rise? Would that change the results here or are the numbers based on the beta damage numbers and not specifically Raw/Elemental MVs?
if every data value is modified by the same amount, nothing changes. a.k.a. Normalization
I'm very happy the basic Y(triangle) combo's DPS is so close behind the other combos because I really love the maneuverability with it, especially in focus mode. You're encouraged to use it frequently. I was expecting the damage to be mediocre considering its versatility. I trust that final rush will be properly tuned so that there is a situation where it's optimal. But I'm surprised they made it so weak that there's currently no reason to use such a high commitment move, considering it's already been in 2 games and they should have found a good sweetspot by now even if this is a beta.
I really think you just want a "monster fighter" type of a game, which I don't like for a evolution of the series
i have thought about this a lot and i believe they should either have 2 versions of monster hunter (fighter and hunter) with alternating releases or 3 teams: 2 on fighter and 1 for hardcore hunter
3:10 This was clean af, I'm playing World again rn and I need to start incorporating this into my play.
I heavily relate with your perspective on combat. Personally never been about numbers (even turn it off lol) but love the complexity of the weapons and how creative you can be. Wilds feels like its just giving us more options which has me excited. For the first time im planning to use them all and can't wait for that challenge.
I am a IG main and as someone who started this game with that weapon I have to agree on how technical and advanced that weapon can be for beginner players at the start. Takes a lot of set up and timing on attacks with your buffs. GS imo would be a good starter wep 🙂
i've playing hammer since world.. in wild i was underwhelmed with its damage potential.. the hammer strongest charge attack is nerfed because you have to do now charge animation..which lowers your dps.. also you need to do it near monsters.. so trying to find small openings to land your full charged attacks is very difficult now, unless you have a hard read on the monster..
Where is SNS dps Michael!!! whererrererere????
i believe that this is calculated without adding in the hitlag right?
Yes
@@naota909 why tho when barrel is right there and u probably want to know what dps u deal when u actually hit the monster?
@@Zamoxino because I need to guarantee either every hit hits the target or none of the hits hit the target for consistency otherwise the data is corrupted and useless
@@naota909 i dont think its that hard to hit the barrel with DBs... but thx for answer
@@naota909 i looked at my vods in slowmo and actually i dont think that even matters here anyway... it seems like DBs dont have any hitlag at all in this game or it triggers on some ultra soft hitzones... in world hitlag was massive and it would for sure affect dps stats when it comes to tests like these. thats kinda crazy oh ye and kinda sad that u didnt test the blue mode dodge spins
