How To Shoot A Bow And Arrow / Archery Lesson
As a new archer just starting out this was just a fantastic video and I can’t wait for the weather to improve (I am in the U.K. Jan 2025) so that I can try out all your advice. Thank you so much.
I will have my first archery class next Sunday, thanks for the advice. 🏹
I found that a lot of compound bow shooters installed Speed Nocks on their bow strings to increase the bow speed, but traditional bow shooters don't. Would you tell me why? Why Speed Nocks can increase the speed of compound bow, but can't increase the speed of traditional bow? Thank you.
Thanks i am going to girl Scout camp next month and i have my own bow and target so i wanted to practice
Thanks for this list! It's great! Question: I'm a tall guy (6'5") and I measure out with a 31.5 draw length. I'm looking for a recurve that will match me. The Samick Sage looks great, but the draw length they sell is 28". Am i missing something or is it going to be hard to find a beginner bow for me?
Excellent tutorial
This stuff is crazy. Girls that our hot can shoot a bow?
Good video. Very helpful.
I'm new to archery, and after watching this video, there was a lot of things I realized i was doing wrong even after countless hours on TH-cam. Thank you for this content!
What about shooting with sight? At that point the hand is lower in the jaw. I'm unable to get to full draw due to the string catching against the side of my chest.😢
I just found your channel. I have a question that I can't find real guidance on. I am right-handed/ right eye dominant. I have worn out my right shoulder from years in my line of work. I'm retired now. Can an old dog shoot left-handed?
great help, im used to crossbows but im recently into archery
I have my students lean forward slightly at the hips. Im not into follow through, rather prefer my students keep their hand on their face like Fred Bear did. With the grip another thought, pretend you’re holding a golf ball in your bottom fingers so you don’t put a death grip on the handle. Anyhow all great stuff thank you.😁
Yes, I like using chapstick tubes! LOL
As u can see it hit right in the yellow … 👀👀👀👀 I can’t see actually
Yeah - I should have zoomed in! LOL
Very informative Thqnks
"Coach Tara, these archery tips are fantastic! 🏹 The step-by-step guide on repairing arrows is super helpful and easy to follow. I’ll definitely be using these techniques next time my gear needs a fix-thanks for the great advice
Thanks! I'm glad you found the video helpful!
This is ONLY fore TARGET compatition shooters! Not acturreally archeres that Hunt! Its a beginner mistake to have 3 fingers UNDER the arrow. BIG beginner mistake.
Wow, such a quick and easy guide! ⏱ I love how you broke it down into simple steps. Can’t wait to try putting my bow together now!
Feel free to post any questions here!
I started off with gap shooting, but I've been introduced to the dark art of string walking! I get better results with that. But for beginners I would recommend gap shooting.
Yes, I am the same as you. Start everyone with gap and then a lot move on to string walking!
Thank you, great advice. I have no shop nearby so have to buy online. They sold me a Gillo GYL ILF bow, I’m a 67 yo male , is that a good bow to start with?
That is a nice bow!
Nice tips always do my own repairs and I'd advise not to glue your nocks in... Mind you that I'm a beginner myself but you should have freedom to adjust the nock mid shooting.
This type has to be glued in or they fall off. There are different types that don't require glue. Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I’ve always wanted to learn archery, and this is such a helpful way to get started. Can’t wait to try it out!
Thanks, reminders of all that I learned several years ago before physical problems shut me down for a few years. 👍👍
But why?

Why would it be facing towards you're behind the fletching, not beside it.
I really enjoyed the tips. Thank you.
Amazing tips!💯 You make arrow repairs look so easy and clear. Big thanks for the great advice! 🙂
Thank you for watching - glad it helps!
@@ArcheryHouse You're welcome! Keep sharing your fantastic contents! 💯
So the safest time to fire the bow is when its most dangerous loaded with an arrow.
LOL
Only women can overextend their arm like that 🤣🤣 14:07
Haha...so true! It's *mostly* the women in my classes that hit their arms!
Not really, it matters if your double jointed or not. It commonly is women has we do tend to be more double jointed though
I watch it and all I think is I want to F!!!
This is very helpful. Thank you!
You're welcome! Hope it helps you avoid those common mistakes!
Slapped my forearm real good. Watching this video, it makes sense in theory, so the real question is, do I not get an arm guard and continue to shoot without one and force myself to suffer the consequences of my poor form until I correct it? Also, I’ve been going through and watching your videos and kept thinking your background/view looks like San Diego and turns out it is. Hah! I’m in Oceanside.
No, I would definitely get the arm guard. If you keep hitting your arm - you will start to compromise form to keep it out of the way - which will lead to more form problems down the road. Just keep working on these form tips, with an arm guard, and you will start to hit your arm less as you keep practicing.
The #3 point of index fletching should face away from the bow riser, apparently Ive been doing wrong the whole time of my newbie recurve archery practice. I could swear the archery shop guy told me to do the opposite, to always face the arrow with the white fletching plastic feather to face into the bow & bow rest. Will try it facing away and hopefully it helps improve my aim.
its not always a white color fletching.....its the odd color fletching on the arrow that faces to the outside
Yes, face it toward you (not the riser). The way the arrow is designed - it will keep rubbing against the riser as it leaves the bow if it's loaded wrong - it will cause clearance issues and your fletchings will start to get ruined.
@@ArcheryHouse thanks. Yep, many are getting tattered. I've been doing it correct way finally recent week or so
love your succinct videos. Though the intro and outro noise is very invasively jarring loud and unnecessary, which can make some people want to instantly turn if off or go to other videos. But the content otherwise is great.
Yes, thank you for the feedback. Those were some of my first videos when I was learning to edit. LOL I think I have the sound figured out now!
What now? I'm all out of video's to watch? 🤔I think I'll leave the fletching to the shop...
leave me a video idea! :)
@@ArcheryHouse Well, actually... Bought my first recurve and since last week I enjoy shooting it 🙂. A friend of mine commented on my instagram-post and we started chatting. Seems my bow tips over backwards, so it needs a stabilizer. Would be nice to get some info on that. Seen bows with 1, seen bows with 3, long, short, ... Do you just try out what you need, or can you calculate what you need? Another idea: a video on various distances in bow shooting and the size of the targets used on them. And maybe some tips on aiming at various distances? Thanks in advance and cheers from Belgium...
Nice! Just ordered a quite complete recurve starter set, but found some christmas-hints in these! Thanks!
Perfect!
i gotta try this at my saturday practice i hope it works
I hope so too!
Thinking about buying a bow. Try out tomorrow at the local acher range to see what I prefer (recurve, compound, pull weight etc.) Don't know anything about archery except from what I saw in your video's. About this episode I have a question: is the arrow rest at the oplympic bow on the other side? You seem to aim at the other side too, or is this camera-related? Or is this simply a left handed bow? Thanks, Filip.
Awesome! Archery Shops are the best place to start! In this video, the Olympic Bow is left-handed and the barebow is right-handed. I probably should have used the same bow for each example! LOL
I watch videos of this channel. Your video is very nice but I see some problems in this channel. Analyzing your channel, I found that your channel and video are not doing any kind of SEO. "Without SEO, the channel never grows. So first of all, 90_99% of your channel and video should be SEO. 100% guarantee that your channel will start growing after doing SEO.
Good afternoon I'm glad I found your channel I love your way of teaching I have a question if you don't mind as a young man I shot a compound bow many years ago I would like to learn the bare bow now for the problem my body is extremely weak let's just say due to life a bad accident as a young man I was am lefthand left eye dominant but l shoot right handed I can't close my left eye to use my right due to the accident so I'm good on my left so can you give me so pointers I'm basically starting over I noticed you say you shot both sides love the way you teach do you have a way to connect you for lessons thanks for sharing your work time and experience with us
I bought half dozen gold tip warriors from Lancaster archery and had them cut them to length and install the components which I believe were just the knocks and inserts not the feathers, I believe the feathers were on from the factory. Anyway not a single arrow is aligned right where after knocking the arrow the odd color feather is sticking out how it should…..not a clue why.
They are most likely set-up for compound. Are they facing upward instead of out? If so, that's why...compound bows will typically require fletchings face up. Are the nocks glued in or can you twist them? If they are glued-in and you have a local range - you can swap out the nocks and re-align them.
@ - Well when I shoot the arrows the odd color is facing down towards the ground on my recurve. I ordered the arrows the same time I ordered my 45# Bear Grizzly recurve so you would think they would have enough sense to be like ok this is for a trad bow. Their actual feathers too, not vanes…..as far as the knocks being glued or screw in I’m not sure haven’t checked. That being said…..I want to add 100grain brass inserts and make my arrow more a hunting weight so I can practice with an arrow the same weight I’m going to hunt with but they already have the standard gold tip Aculite 11 grain inserts that are glued in……is their anyway to remove them and glue in the 100grain inserts or am I going to have to buy all new arrows? I’m a beginner so when I ordered all this stuff I was kinda clueless lol.
I want a new bow. But I want the best I could buy, something that I won't outgrow in skill level. I want a bow that I can actually, with practice, hit dimes at 20 yards. What would you recommend.
Go to a reputable Archery shop. They will advise you.
Goddess of the wood, guide me
I had no idea about the finger placement but it makes so much sense
Where do I point my arrow if my height is 5'1?
It's going to be different for everyone. It's going to depend on your anchor position, bow weight/draw, etc. As long as you have a consistent anchor position, practice several rounds to see where you need to aim at your desired distances.
Great job Cuz!! Love your videos!
Thanks, cuz! Glad you enjoyed it!
Such a beautiful lady!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I've never even tried stringing/unstringing without a bow stringer, there seems more to go wrong for both you and your equipment doing it by hand, even if it's just a small chance
It's always best to string with a stringer - especially as a beginner! I just know that some people forget one or don't have one - and I have seen some very unsafe/wild ways to string the bow. I wanted to offer a "better" option than some of the ways I have seen! :)
