Helping people get fit for 100,000 life-changing adventures.
I’ve always been drawn to outdoor adventure. Ski racing, competitive trail running, rock climbing, mountain biking…I love getting outside and interacting with our world!
This led me to my passion-helping others find adventure in their own lives. With WILDR Fitness, I combine my love for adventure with a research-based approach to fitness training called the Adventure Ready Model.
I believe the point of training is to increase your capacity to interact with the world around you, with confidence and without having to worry about injuries.
From professional mountaineers to amateur hikers, recreational athletes to weekend warriors, WILDR is the perfect place to bring together fitness AND fun. Our community is built on smiles and hellos as much as it is built on lifting weights and climbing mountains.

Hi Alecia, just watched your video and also had the question about the origin of “Spiess turn” or “Spiess drill”. I may not have the answer but I found there was 2 former Austrian skiers on the World Cup in the 70’s, Ulrich and his sister Nicola Spieß (Spiess). I wouldn’t be surprised if this is related…
That was great!
Love the video!!
WILDR RULZ Awesome new studio space! (I'm trying to see the snow-covered mountains out the windows)
Rumor has it I am still standing
❤❤❤ thanks for making these
Thank you for watching!
I know that feeling. Good to know someone else enjoys the slopes as much as I do.
Absolutely!
My ski tickets used to be $12 and I loved it
That would be amazing!
I’m petty. The blue suit with teal ski clash is making my mind seize.
Good thing I didn't wear my red jacket then! 🤣 Thankfully, snow doesn't care too much!
LQQKING GOOD !
Thank you!
Thanks!!
there's west coast "ice", and what we get on the east coast which can be stretches of straight up frozen pond and I still haven't found a solution to it, especially with wider skis. All you can do is hunt for loose granual to speed check and straight lining through those areas. Any tips appreciated
Oh yes I remember eastcoast ice from my ski racing days! It's incredibly important to have sharp skis, and with width skis, thr stack height of ypur bindings becomes helpful, a taller stack height can help you more easily get a bigger edge angle. Does that make sense? Practicing slowly is really important.
Such a helpful video! 🦵✨ These mobility exercises are perfect for keeping the calves and feet strong and flexible. Definitely adding this to my daily routine-thanks for sharing! 💪🙌
Thank you so much for watching!
This is great, I just pulled a calf muscle while heli skiing in BC. So important to warm up.
Oh no! So sorry to hear about that (especially during an awesome adventure). Getting that warm-up in is huge! Hopefully the recovery isn't too long so you can get back on the hill.
@@wildrfitness - Thanks. Do you have an opinion on the RICE method vs. the Peace and Love method for injury recovery?
I am a personal trainer and I'm trying to get as much info as possible to help my clients. What would you recommend for the sprint training because I can't imagine older ladies doing sprints. would faster movements like a bike, rower or ski machine work instead of running sprints. thank you
A bike with low resistance would be a great option, ypu definitely have to adjust for your specific clients! Something cyclical and in a range of motion where they can be powerful important.
my bottom neighbours won't like this workout
🤣 Might have to get them to join!
Thank you so much for this! I' currently preparing for the skii season as a young teen, thank you again!
That is amazing to hear!! You're so welcome
I'm 69, my balance has gone to pot. I have a skiing trip in February, going to give your exercises a try. thank you
You've described me perfectly. Enjoy your trip
Let me know how incorporating these exercises start to feel (and then how you feel skiing too!)
I had 5 pancakes before skiing. Does that count? 🙃
Oohhhh do I have a story about eating too many waffles before an event 🤢
is it accurate to say that the jumping motion early in the turn still uses a bit of your quads, but just not nearly as much as if you were backseat the whole turn?
Yes your Quads are still used for the forward movement, but aren't isometrically working for the entire turn like they would be if you were in the backseat!
Я посмотрел видео только потому что она очень красивая девушка!
Thanks for the drills. My CARV tells me I need more early forward movement. So I‘ll try these 👌🏻
Let me know how that goes! I have been thinking about doing a video with the CARV and bringing the data from that into the gym...maybe I'll try that this year!
@ these instructions worked amazingly well for me today. My early forward movement score went from the lower 50ish to 68 - in just one session. So I guess it‘s fair to say that your method really helped me. Thanks :)
Nice Sharing.
Thank you!
Awesome.
Thank you for watching!
Love from india.. I faced this issue while hiking downhill
I hope this helped!
For women watching in 2025, garmin do a strap that fits directly to a sports bra. I find the garmin watch good but there's a lag. A 40 second sprint takes 30secs to register!
not trying to be a jerk but you do need to stop your hip from rotating with your ski in this drill
The shape of the top of your femur and hip socket will dictate how much femur rotation can happen before the hips start rotating as well.
I’m always skiing behind my 7 year old who is and skier and will soon be better than me, but doesn’t ski as fast (and he’s lighter so he just can’t go as fast). So I’m always slowing down to stay behind him…so much more work. I try to do wider turns and cut across the hill more but in any case, it’s more work on the legs than of if I just skied the way I’d like to ski
Might be fun to try some jump turns to keep it interesting as you follow behind :)
great suggestions
Thank you for watching!

spit on that thang 🤣👍
😂😂😂
Really great stuff here. Great presentation, great content. As for other drills, we have a drill on our channel called the Long Radius Retraction drill. It incorporates the "get forward" message you have here with the idea of projecting the inside half to the apex. So many skiers are told not to pop up during transition, and that results in them being static and afraid to move their bodies. But we need to keep moving the hips down the hill. The body and the feet take a different path. So if you're not moving the hips down the hill, you will get stuck aft. Great stuff. And if you'd like to checkout the Long Radius Retraction drill, we'd love your feedback, the link is here: th-cam.com/video/HbZBFqpZ4-g/w-d-xo.html
What is the time between exercist work outs?? Dick
Nice Information🙂🙂

love the skiing shot !
I am a perimenopausal personal fitness trainer and love that you have listened to a leading expert in this field and passing the knowledge onto your clients, well done and keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for watching! I love her research and can see the benefits with many of my clients.
These are sweet!
Thanks so much!
Thank you! I get a lot of inflammation in my legs and feet.. I do the stretches from the calve stretch on, but that foot stretch is awesome! Needed to see that one..
You’re so welcome! Getting into the feet feels so good
Yes i am interested ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is also really helpful for after doing dry land training for skiing. Feels like I did actual skiing after a practice.
Absolutely! I'm glad that this was helpful!
Thank you. These felt good after opening day.
Where did you go opening day??
@ Big Sky is my home mountain. We are off to a great start but could use some fresh snow.
@ right on! More snow for sure is needed up here. Our opening day at Castle Mountain is today!
@@wildrfitness Enjoy every turn.
The chest strap can slip down, but women can wear it under their bra. For men, the sweat can prevent it to slip down. But we have to tight the strap enough, and it is not very comfortable. But more accurate than the wrist sensor.
It does take a little playing around to find something that fits correctly without being too uncomfortable.
Colorado in 2 weeks!
You'll have to let me know how it is!!
I laughed way too hard at the plyobox kick away at 2:42 😂 Hope your channel blows up! Really good, thorough presentation and interesting variations that are new to me as someone who generally trains like a powerlifter.
haha thankfully I'm moving to a bigger space so won't have to be kicking boxes (hopefully!) 🤣 Thank you so much for watching and I appreciate the feedback <3
Great vid and great tips 👍
Thanks so much!
Thanks WILDR!
Thank YOU!
FWIW Gotta keep back straight on this if you can, don't be looking down at the dumbbell.
Thanks so much for the uploads. I have been using to rebuild my strength after taking the last three seasons. As I haven’t gone through all your media yet. Do you have stretching exercises as well?
thanks so much for following along! Yes, I have SO many :) I have most of them listed in this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLOMgHoLbpyHyna-kIk5rWYqTW8fMwtfVO.html
