MORE than DESIGN: Expanding My Design Business, One (baby) Step At A Time + Home Updates!
First off my hair 😂 It was just a bad hair weekend I guess! Nevertheless the video must go on!
Join me for a glass of wine and we sit and talk about the future of this design business (my vision). I love sharing this kind of content with you because I know that some of you are interested in starting your own design business but hesitate. I want to show you that this is a journey and share with you what I learn along the way.
The experience of creating a design business (beginning as first a side hustle) has been a true learning experience. I never thought that I would grow this TH-cam channel to where we are now and that being said, I am so extremely grateful for each and every subscriber. You hold a place in my heart.
In this week's video I discuss the importance of taking baby steps to creating my online boutique. It's just a few simple things like print on demand and some candles, but for me it symbolizes the first steps to creating my dream business. An interior design firm that offers unique home goods, fine art, and one-of-a-kind, vintage and antique furniture pieces.
I know that someday I'll look back on these days and relish in the gratitude for the experiences and connections I made along the way.
I also get into the plan to give up my home office, well most of it anyway to create a guest bedroom with a little home office space too.
As always, sending you so much love from NY 😘

Not fussy on the drapes at the door. That kitchen light is really the only sunlight coming into the room and those drapes will hinder that. Just center tree he hutch on the wall or use art to fill in that white space beside the hutch.
Actually there’s a ton of natural light coming from the living room. Check it out 😉

Hi lovely!!!
@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio hey, watching from Fiji
@@selairarokobu9017 Hello! Wow paradise!
Christina this design is absolutely gorgeous! Bravo! Good luck with your move next week! xoxo Nicole
Thanks so much, Nicole! 🥰 Moving is typically so stressful for me but we have literally been moving things out of our condo following the closing on the house a year ago. So little by little :)
Hi Christina. Watched your video monday late afternoon, Dutch time, after having a lovely November afternoon in an ordinary eatingplace, for my cappuccino and a little snack, meeting some friends. Loved the structure of your video. The combination of the layout plan, the color information, the inspiration and the designplans. All fits so well in het theme and adjectives of Hanna. Loved that one of your inspiration pictures was the home of designer Beata Heuman. Her eclectic style gives just the right spark of energy in your comment of being it a place for a literature professor, including some color. I can feel your ideas come to live. It is just great fun to see how you build a home for someones particular needs and wishes. It helps translate the method to my own home. Like leaning into some challenging aspects. In my case for example I have white, plastic windowframes. So I paint the ceilings white and make sure there are some white and off white elements in the room. Lots to say about this enjoyable video, but this is enough for now. Thanks again. Have a blessed week!
Awww as always, thank you Grady 😘😘😘 I love leaning into the challenge because we end up with unique solutions that other designers might not think of. Also, as an artist, I sure you have leaned into your challenges when creating artwork. Lol you know how I love to create a narrative for a home (regarding the literature professor). Hannah is a gifted writer and so I intuitively know that her books/library are important. Can't wait to see what she comes up with.
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio Yes, exactly, the specific challenges make a house a personal home, when working with it. That is a great insight you gave me. Makes me even more happy to be in my place and to work with my space. Indeed in the process of making art, there are a lot of challenges. It takes courage to make the next step, sometimes very intuitively, sometimes well considered and planned. A lot like interior design for me. I loved the narrative of the literature professor, and now I know how you came up with the idea. I also love to see what Hannah will do with the space. Thinking of what my narrative is, and concluding that in the process of time my home reflects the narrative of who I am now.
I covered the mirrors in 2 china cabinets two different ways. In the first one, similar to Hannah’s, I used non pre-pasted wallpaper and liquid fabric starch to apply it. It never budged, but if I should have tired of the pattern, it peels right off with no sticky residue. It is also easier to hang than peel and stick in a tight space. The second one I did was a more “modern” style, and arched curio cabinet, 80’s oak, but I painted it black and painted the mirrors black as well. Definitely a more “permanent” solution, but it can be scraped off if I ever wanted the mirror back…but I doubt I will. ;-) It would be fun to see what Hannah ends up doing, if possible!
Thanks for the tips and expertise, Rebekah! Love how you've made both those cabinets so unique. Let's see what Hannah does... 🤩
What great ideas and advice!!
Thank you, Shaun! I hope you can use some of this for your own home or at least get inspired! 😘
Wow! So much thought and work went into this presentation, fascinating to listen in. Lots to take in for sure. Thank you!❤
I’m so glad you liked it, Izzie! I’m hoping it will inspire others to think differently about their own space 🥰
Thank you for the thoughtfulness you put in my space and the interpretation of my mood board, Christina! I'm so excited to use your suggestions and potentially post a video of it on TH-cam ❤ you energized the dining room with exactly what I was looking for Hannah
Thanks darling! You’re welcome, I’m so excited to see how it all comes together 🥰
Fabulous as always! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and talent with us 🤍🤍🤍
You are so sweet, thank you, Cheyenne! 🤍
We ended up out of town to see family. Just watching the video now. Great ideas. Would love to see the finished concept if she does it. Love the pedestal dining table idea. 👍
Me too! I am definitely going to do a follow up! PS No worries Tascha 😘 That’s why I save it for the replay ❤️❤️❤️
I love your ideas for her beautiful dining room. I am eyeing that exact shaped table for my dining area, only I need a 32 inch size. This room has such potential! I would paint those newel posts the same color as the stair posts to have a little less mish mash of woods. I love the idea of hanging a Suzani on the wall. I think it is also a great way to hide a television set when you don't want the t.v to be the main focus. Put it behind curtains...
Thanks, girl! I agree-that room is going to be such a beauty when it’s all done! 😍 PS Love your idea to conceal the tv!
This was so great, totally not my style but very interesting to see your thought process.
Thank you! It’s also not my style (at home) but still had so much fun exploring this aesthetic ❤️ Hope Hannah can make some of ideas work for her.
@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio I hope she loves it and we get an after photo ❤️
Good morning Australian time, Christina. I just had a look at your video - what a gorgeous design! And thank you for talking through your process. Have a wonderful day xx Joanna

Here’s a challenge for you. I’ll be moving to a small apartment in Paris. That’s great. The challenge is I’m coming with two cats. How can I deal with litter boxes in a 60 square meter space? Help!
Have you tired hiding the litter box in a chest? I did this with my cat (also a studio) and basically what I did was buy a used storage chest/trunk and cut out a little square on one side. Then I placed that side facing the wall so it wasn’t visible but left enough space for her to get in. Cleaning is easy because you lift the lid and clean it out from above. Hope that helps! PS now they sell these things so here’s one as an example www.chewy.com/baxton-studio-amara-cat-litter-box/dp/334161
Yes, baby steps. They are a combination of dreaming and building a fundament that can dance. I love your dream of your shop. You can already visualize it. Although I don't believe in manifestation, but in faith, I very much recognize your way of thinking and growing. For me it is my dream to have small activities in my tiny artstudio, like small talking sessions with colleague artists, for example about the fundamentals of our identity of being an artist. And I am still developing my small business of art and art education. Every project I get to develop is another song in my heart. I see the same in your eyes when you talk about your baby steps. Have a blessed week.
Thank you Grady! 😘❤️🥰 Yes you are doing the things to create the outcome you desire and bring it into fruition. To be clear, manifestation is the realization and actualization of something into reality-such as the realization of a goal or outcome. I do not believe in the “magic” popularized version of this word-that you can see it and poof it comes into your life. It’s a combination of dreaming, believing and doing ❤️
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio O yes, I can see that, thank you for the explanation. I think that is how I realize things. But even when the steps are not that clear, you can stil go on. It will become clearer in time, once you are on your way. And also for example because of meeting new people, the direction can change, because of new input. For me prayer is important in the process. It keeps me on track of who I truly am, how I am meant to be. But still taking the steps you mentioned. There is room for growth. To mention one thing I see in your life that is realized in the three steps you describe, is your new home. It is a big step to buy the home and to move from NYC. And then to make it your home with your design skills and the dreams that grow along the way. I wish you and Jerry so much happiness in that place!
@@gradyvandenboschGrady you are such a lovely, bright and sweet person. Thank you for your kind words and observations 🤍 Do you know you’re the top commenter on the channel? I would like to gift the top commenters a complimentary membership-so stay tuned for that in the new year because you are definitely in that group 🤗
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio Ah, sweet of you, what a great idea.
I always feel so uplifted and inspired by your videos, dear Christina💜 Thank you so much for sharing your baby steps and things in progress in your biz and home, I think I really needed to see that today, as lately I've felt so down about being slow as a turtle with my projects, and recently moved to a new apartment, and bare walls and boxes and unassembled furniture are such eyesores 😶 Much love from Europe 🤍
Awwww darling slow and steady wins the race. Taking your time is okay! I can tell you it’s much more challenging to design your own home than being hired to help someone else-too many options and too much emotion behind it all. At times I almost obsess over our home and finding the right piece-that is not the way! Lol. When I choose for someone else it comes so quickly. So don’t beat yourself up over empty walls. Try your best to enjoy the process and tap into your imagination-remember when you were a kid and it came easily? You can do that again. You’ll get there and same for your other projects too! I believe in you 😘
Hey Babeyou always look FAB💋never doubt yourself ~ p.s. I love wine as well🍷As I mentioned previously, you and I are very much alike in that we've both dealt with anxiety and pausing to gain some perspective. You give me inspiration to try a few things out myself - especially since being unemployed. Also, I am happy to hear that your mama is doing okay💓sending you healthy - healing vibes for continued recovery. Stay blessed! So proud and I can't wait to purchase some gifts for myself and family and friends!
Thanks, girl! So nice to hear from you ❤️ You’re an inspiration too 😘 What kind of things are you dreaming about doing? I’m here for ya babe if you want some feedback. Also thank you for the kind words regarding my mom. The love is very much appreciated, Victoria dear 😘

Re: storing paintings..was told by someone that before stretching to coat the wood stretchers with shellac and let dry. This stops the wood from moving due to changes in humidity and will keep the canvas tight.
Oh, I love that tip! I’m going to start doing that. Thanks Millie 😘
Hi Christina, so many great things on this video...the way your parted your hair, that dress, all of the beautiful online boutique items, the new art you're creating! That is interesting what you mentioned about the California wine. I noticed some wines, even organic give me migraines, I wonder if I have a similar problem. How did you figure this out? Why California?
I figured it out just by noticing the pattern as well as connecting it to other foods that also have tannins: teas, coffee, and dark chocolate mainly. If it has higher levels of sulfites I break out in a rash and my tongue swells-so fun lol. It comes down to the soil where the grapes are grown. I stick to certain regions/countries like France and parts of Italy for wine.
Love your inspiration Christina!🤎
Thank you Paulene 😘❤️🥰

It's challenging to be working full time while attempting to be an entrepreneur and pursue passions. My son is going through a similar journey with his art. I too want to continue to write on Substack, but time passes too quickly and I'm just in a pause. Persevere! Baby steps😉

Christina I have watched your video on mixing wood tones. Is painted black furniture considered a neutral? Using the black painted furniture I have, do I add warm or cool tone wood furniture with it?
Hi Monica-good question. Painted furniture is not a wood tone but you can still determine if the paint is cool or warm. So if you have a black color look to see if it has hints of blue (cool) or red (warm), then apply the same rules. Essentially this matching your color palette to the wood tone. If you have warm woods, then warm colors will complement those tones best. The same applies to the cool colors and cool tone woods. Like mixing cool wood tones with cool jewel tones for example. I hope that makes sense 😉
@@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio Thank you. Thank you!
