    1. What things are you drawn to consistently?
    2. What mood are you going for?
    3. What things do you already have that capture that feeling? Take pictures of them to keep a digital board on your phone to check possible purchases against.
    4. Visualize your ideal room if money were no object. Dream big. Create a vision board to use as a reference.
    5. Consider the environment so the outside and inside of your home make sense visually.
    6. Travel. It will inspire you.
    7. Check your closet for indications of your style, material and color palette tastes. If you like living in those clothes, you might like living in a similar environment.
    8. Work in reverse. You can start with what you know you don’t like and work through a process of elimination.

    I dont look at it as a design style. I choose what I adore, what inspires me, the colors, the fabrics, textures, the feel it gives me, the mood I may want in a certain room..and all while doing this, I try to make the rooms blend - one to another to have cohesion throughout the home. Ive found over the years of going through many different styles..to use my own creative mind. Some people want help with design..but this is how I have evolved while decorating my own home and I absolutely love it and I get many compliments. We inspire each other by seeing someone elses creative design mind. I love that!! 😊❤

      I think many people look at design styles, such as the categorized versions, as a way to know themselves; however, it can be limiting and stifle our creativity. I don’t like those specific styles-I could never be just one style. I don’t work like that and it sounds like neither do you 👏👏👏
      What I hoped with this video was to help people beyond move beyond those labels and into the understanding that to create a home we love, that inspires us and lights us up, we must do what is aligned with who we are.

    My home is eclectic. I try to have unique pieces that blend together. I love the pieces we have collected on trips. My closet is similar to my decorative style. I have special sweaters from years ago that I still get compliments on. I work at a high end clothing store and have been asked many times where I purchased a special piece. LOL I am vintage! Kind of crept up on me! Thank you for sharing design fundamentals. I have learned from you!

      Wonderful Kathy!! I’m so glad they’re helping and I’m just like you with special, meaningful pieces. They become a part of you. I’m sure you have some amazing sweaters too! This is the beauty of collecting things you love. They stay with you and over time become one of a kind pieces that no one else owns.

    Really good advice. I have never made the connection between my decor and my closet. Whilst I like a fairly calm living space I’ve realised that a lot of my work blouses lean towards subtle patterns and so do my sofa cushions and one or two feature walls. Subscribed from England, I like your energy.

    What a clever idea about referencing your wardrobe to determine home design! I love a dream/vision board, too-your picture of that dream house/cottage and its setting (*homie swoon*). Dream big is absolutely helpful! You can imagine what you are drawn to. And then you can gradually collect what brings your style in your home. Not a copy, but your own interpretation. That also makes it possible to collect less expensive things, because it doesn't have to be that 30.000 dollar lamp, but can be that affordable alternative. Because of the big dream, it will be able to be part of your esthetic. That said, I love your authentic video's, but I notice that we have different spiritual values. After a dark and turbulent episode in my life, I am now careful for what I let into my life, centered around Jesus. But I hope to follow your video's anyway, because you are approachable and have excellent content. And you are a sweet woman.

    At the beginning of the video when you were throwning out all the different design styles we may like our homes to have? I thought, well, all of them!! Hahaha Can a person bringing the garden indoors, use natural materials, be light and airy, AND be dark and moody at the same time?? 😅

    • @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio
      @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think so!!! I feel like I’m that way at home in our house. You can also adjust it by the essence of the room and how it feels-maybe one is darker and moody and another light and airy? You can still make all of that cohesive 🤍🖤

    • @timilisafogal6990
      @timilisafogal6990 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ChristinaDiStefanoStudio Okay Awesome. I feel like I want my dining room and kitchen to be light and airy with natural and old world decor. But I want my bedroom to be dark and moody paint, dark velvet drapes and bedding - like a cave!! 😅🤣 I also thought it might be fun to do the powder room really dark with lots of brass, and maybe the primary bathroom a lighter colorway of "the cave." 😜

    • @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio
      @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@timilisafogal6990 Yes all of that works. Cohesion can be found in the furniture, style, decor too-not purely limited to color palette! Keep me posted on the outcome!! Send me pics on IG 😉

    Hi Christina! Just found your channel. Where have you been all my life???!!!! You make it all make sense. I have an issue that I struggle with. I have black and white canvas prints of people and things I love in my home. But I also find charming little paintings and drawings at thrift stores all the time that I am really drawn to. How do I combine the two together. I always feel like I have to go one way or the other and when I mix it feels cluttered. Any advice? Thanks so much for your channel. I love everything you've posted!

      Oooh good question (and welcome, luv)!
      I’m going to make a video with this. I have a question for you, do they have to be together? I ask because if you look at our living room, we have some very large paintings on a couple of the walls, but then I designate two walls for all those vintage and thrifted art pieces in a big collection. I don’t know if that’s too cluttered for you but I do try to keep a lot of balance so it’s not too much (but we are all different).
      In this video we’re at our condo in the city but look at the one I released last Sunday (the home tour) because you can really see the collected art walls. That would be my first thought to have those things separate from each other in their own little collection, the. Have the other wall(s) showcasing your black and white paintings. You can the. create little moments in those areas based on what you have on the walls.
      Let me know what you think 🤗 and thank you for your question 😘

    If my house burned to the ground, there is literally NOTHING in my house I would be sad to lose other than pictures of my kids.
    I recently took a style quiz and it said I was coastal and modern Parisian, which I agree with. Sadly, there is nothing in my house that reflects this.
    Where do I begin redecorating? I seriously need someone to come in and take over.

    • @ChristinaDiStefanoStudio

      Awwwww babe I’m sorry to read this, that must challenging. Did you see the video I reference in this video? I’ll add the link to the notes. That combined with this video can help you get clarity and also create a plan for your home: what you want to purchase, where it will go, budget, etc. so you can start moving in the right direction to make changes.
      On a side note, I am so curious about the blending of modern Parisian and coastal. These seem so opposite to me in terms of their characteristics and of course, geography.

      I used to be interested in interior design, but then I got mentally ill and start neglecting my home. Ten years later I was in a good place again and I started to work in my home again, a small 473 sq ft rental apartment. I could get a free, 2nd hand floor that was still very nice and with that the new journey began. I started with a new sofa, but had to wait 7 months for it to get delivered. So I bought myself a beautiful new vase to have a new ray of sunshine in my home, and the start of my new style. And now, after 3,5 years, in different phases, my home is renewed for a large part. Last January the walls in my living/dining were freshly repainted, it brought the whole space together. So you can start with the envelope, the base, or you can start with a small item. Like you, I am also drawn to modern Parisian! You go girl!
