Very creative! Looks great!
Well done … thanks for sharing this project. As it happens, I’m starting my first photo book project so good timing on this video for me. You learn so much by just doing so every new zine or book you create will be better! 📷🙂
very creative! and interesting... thanks
Cool you shared your experience in this activity and many things you learned. Also useful for people that we want to do something similar
So happy to hear that!
Thank you Flora!
It's quite interesting how you explain your lean towards soft focus from wearing glasses. On my end, it creates a level of sympathy because of being able to enjoy photography without glasses. However your picture books took me back to my youth because I did the same thing with small prints. It's awesome how people can be thousands of miles apart, but yet share the same thoughts and ideas. Your videos are always a treat.
This is so true and also beautiful when it happens!
great idea! very well done!!!
Just a suggestion but maybe if you added some text to the images?
Text is so tricky when put next to an image, but it's interesting when it works!
Love it! 🎉
Nice video as always, Flora! I used to wear glasses for nearly half of my life as well, I think it affected my photography too. It's interesting to think how our senses and it's peculiarities affect our art.
Indeed!! Thank you so much
If I could only shoot one stock, it would be slide (E6) film, like Fujifilm Provia 100F, or Kodak Ektachrome E100.
I guess hp5 for 35mm 😅
I bought two rolls to try it out. I read all of the “expert reviews”. Lacks sharpness, grainy, muddy shadows, etc. Then I began watching videos like yours and the reviews are astounding! Nostalgic colors! Nostalgic grain! Muted colors! And so many more wonderful comments. These are the things I’ve been trying to replicate in digital and have only had limited success. I think Orwo has created a very special film niche that the film community wants, loves and desires. Classified as an experimental film, I WOULDN’T CHANGE A THING!!! THANK YOU ORWO FOR GOING OUT THERE AND TAKING A RISK! YOU SUCCEEDED!!!
There is so much more than "technical aspects" and "sheets" in photography! Thanks for watching and for this comment 📸❤️
I notice you're shooting with an Olympus OM-1. The OM-1 was the first 35mm camera I bought. I bought it in 1977 while I was in the military and stationed on Okinawa for a year. I've been shooting digital for some time now, but I do flirt with the notion of getting a film camera again. Enjoyed your video. Keep it up. Thanks.
I hope you still have this OM1, it would be a nice reunion! Thank you for watching
Cinestill 400D.
Forever filmstock? Ilford Delta 100 I think.
This film reminds me of paintings. Very interesting.
I have a roll in the fridge so I am curious to see how it works for portraits. As with the first time I shoot with any film stock I will bracket my shots to see which look I prefer. I love trying different films, always fun to experiment.
I believe it will look very interesting in portraits! Yeah I agree experimenting is fun and essential for growth!
this film looks beyond terrible, the colors are totally off and the grain destroys every last trace of a usable image. as for my favorite film... velvia 50 or provia 100f
Ouch!
Have not shot this film -- but it doesn't look like Harman Phoenix (is that what you meant by the new Ilford film) to me. What do you use for metering?
No,I meant the Ilford Ilfocolor, you can check if you want the review I made about it, it's also linked in the description! I use a Sekonic Lightmeter most of the times
One (current) filmstock to shoot for the rest of my life -- Kodak ColorPlus 200 -- to me it has the most nostalgic color rendering to match my memories growing up of family photos (1970s). A 'dream' filmstock to shoot for the rest of my life? Kodachrome 40 -- no question. When I started shooting 35mm as a young teen in the 1970s, with a hand-me-down Nikon F and some crappy, non-Nikkor lenses, I shot Kodachrome 64 and 40 -- I liked 40 the best.... But those days are gone....
At least you had the pleasure to shoot Kodachrome! Sounds great!
@@flora.k -- somewhere packed away are a lot of those Kodachrome slides -- they usually last very well with little to now color shifts. But the Ektachrome slides from back in the day (did not like the colors as much as the Kodachrome) -- yuck, those turn super orange with age.... Ektar 100 has a bit of the color depth of the Kodachrome, but none of the magic of slide film (and tight latitude)....
I've never seen this film but from what I see here, I LOVE it! Its the ANTI DIGITAL film. Imagine if Tri-X was in color. Perfect! My all-time film would be Fujichrome RVP (If I could afford it the rest of my life). Since I have already shot a saturated color slide film for the last 50+ years (Kodachrome 64, Fujichrome 50 and Velvia 50) my choice has become Ilford FP4, an excellent all around monochrome film.
It's interesting that after many years in colour you return to BW! Great!
@@flora.k Life is made up with changing seasons.
I like your video especially the section of audio with footsteps on the gravel. Photos are wonderfully crunchy. Yeah iso 400 film in bright light will give extra grain. If I could only shoot one film stock for the rest of my life it would be Fuji C200 but my favorites are Ilford XP2 then Fomapan 200. The OM1 rocks!
Aw thank you! Yeah OM 1 is much fun shooting with it!
I have been eager to play with *any color film not made by kodak* for fun, and I have a few rolls of NC500 waiting in my stash. I do like the way the grain, and the muted cool colors look... I think I will slightly over expose that film when playing with it too.
Yeah I believe it's a good choice !
I am very partial to Wolfen NC500, I really really love the warm but muted tones a lot. Hot tip, shoot it at ISO 320
I've only shot this Wolfen Nc500, once and I didn't experience any grain problems. I probably need to buy it again, to check.
wowza
I think it’s beautiful. It has that nostalgic look that I like from the old magazines. I would like to try it out sometime.
It is nostalgic indeed!
I’m not entirely sure this look is for me, not big fan of the latitude but I can see it working on specific projects. I also get some Talia Shire vibes from you 😅
Oh my god I understand why you say it( about Talia!) 😅
I want Kodachrome back, or an analog film that takes photos that look like Kodachrome
I still haven't gotten around to shoot a roll of NC500 but definitely look forward to as I quite like the look it gives!
It definitely worths trying!
Only film for a lifetime, well, I think I would go with Fomapan 100.
What an answer! I have to try it myself then, never shot Fomapan 100
Great video! Alas, for $20/roll of 36 exposures, this film stock is simply not for me. I love grain for sure but if I’m spending that much I’d expect finer grain with great color accuracy.
I hear that! Turns out wolfen is for specific occasions and good lighting conditions.. Thank you for watching
@@flora.k thank you for sharing your creative journey with all of us. I learn so much from each of your uploads!
That's great to hear, I appreciate it deeply that you take your time to watch the videos, thank you!
Its got character, I really dig it! I have had a roll in the fridge for a while now, need to dig it out before its too old lol. Also, Ektar 100 til the end of time and all over again baby! ❤ your videos, keep enjoying photography and well be here to support you, cheers! 🎉
You can keep it for a special occasion that needs an extra vintage cool vibe! Thank you so much for the support, I appreciate it deeply!
Wolfen is defintely a niche film. I could see making vintage looking photos using late 50's era cars and people dressed in period clothing. If I had to choose one color film to shoot it would be Kodak Ektar 100.
Same 🎉 ..
I love saturated color, but this NC 500 (and NC400) is giving me life. I’m learning to treat it as I would black & white film, because the contrast and grain are its defining features.
So true!! Thank you for watching
Way too much grain for my Liking . One film for the rest of my life would be Kodak Ektar. Love saturated film.
Nice!
I used to develop my own B&W film, and although strong grain doesn't do color any justice, in my opinion, strong grain makes B&W come alive. I often pushed Tri-X to ASA 800 with another 30 seconds of time in the developer tray when printing. Grain is subjective. Some love it, and some don't. I personally like it with B&W street portraits. If you could get that Wolfen 500 in monochrome, I'd be all over it.
There is Wolfen NP100, b&w, which you could push of course. And there used to be other speeds in b&w and color back in the old days (of East Germany, GDR). Maybe they will reproduce them also some day.
Very interesting! Everything is nice eventually, depending on how you use it and why!
I recognize that location from one of your previous videos. Is that red car always there? If I had to choose only one film stock for the rest of my days, it would be HP5. (maybe PAN F)
It's the same day actually! I just believe that Wolfen deserved a review by itself 📸
On Instagram I sent you a link to an example photo of me with this film.
And for me it's too grainy for everyday film. But if you know what you want to use it for, it's good to have another alternative.
Exactly, it's good to know what each film can do and use accordingly!
I tested this film for the first time in March. I find the colors take some getting used to. And I exposed my sample at 200 ISO. I think the film is better that way.
I started taking photos with a point and shoot Ricoh I bought in eBay, my head can’t make a decision what slr I want! 😆 there’s om 10!, zenit 122, canon a1 program so on and so on.
It is informative. Just show what you do. There is no need to have speech whole video.
You have a good eye for landscapes. Have you ever tried to shoot from ground level? You appear to be close to six feet tall, and you're often shooting at eye level. I found it difficult to create an image that has a strong impact when shooting at eye level. I know it's not easy on the knees, but a close foreground can really make a strong impact. This is just my honest opinion.😊
Great video, enjoyed watching, the mic gave a good ASMR effect, just the right combination of voice over commentary and photography 📸 My fav photo was @3:31 I like the composition, the car and shed structure in the mid ground, the landscape behind and road leading into the scene. It gave the viewer just enough info but left us wanting to know more. I like the colour rendition of the film, quite a retro subdued look with good contrast.
Happy to hear that! Thanks for the feedback and the support. Yeah the film does have a retro look and cooler tones!
I could take either, both are good, but I'm leaning towards the bird. This was very relaxing. Thank you.
Aw thank you!
Do more of these videos
Yes!
Thank you for bringing Wolfen nc500 to my knowledge, very interesting, shot at 3.30 shows its possibilities. Lately I started a project using Lomo Redscale and will definetly follow up on this and maybe for a future project - have read a couple of reviews which are very informative, interesting early company history in the town of Wolfen , East Germany from 1964.
It looks like it works well under certain lighting conditions! I will search more about it too,now that I know how interesting of a film stock it is. Thank you for watching!
@@flora.k I've just ordered 2 rolls, your vlog was great, so different to the NZ rural countryside, cowbells instead of fences haha.
But still you recognized the sound!
