I used to use this delta 3200 filter from RNI filters in Lightroom but i don't like anymore the washed out look. It seems to me like a huge waste to spend so much money on film and not photograph people, I wouldn't waste a single shot on empty places

I understand your frustration. I too have a 9 to 5. However, I make it a point to carve out some creative time: usually evenings, weekends or vacation. You love photography and you will find that harmonious balance between photography and work.

how lovely. your "creativity vs day job" dilemma made me think of this book i read a while back, by lewis hyde, "the gift", where he looks into the value of creativity in a culture of market economy, and how the gift economy and the economy of goods interact. i think you might find good food for thought in that book.

Watch the movie. Smoke. You mentioned familiar gets boring to photograph all the time. Smoke is is kind of about that as the premise but not the whole premise of the movie.

It's a difficult one the work, life balance, it's important for a healthy mind to get as much leisure time doing the things you enjoy doing! We all have to pay our bills though. The trick is getting a job that doesn't feel like 'work', if it's something you enjoy doing! Sometimes I have to pinch myself to make sure I'm not dreaming that someone actually pays me to drive classic cars! 😮

Love the look you got out of the Delta 3200. I find the film too grainy most of the time but the low contrast nostalgic look really mitigates that.

As to the 9-5, I can compartmentalise my job and my photography, but the practicality of finding a couple of hours, pfff it’s hard! Also the voice over at the end was so relaxing, like ASMR!😂 Elle x

I love seeing your videos pop up. Like a little letter from a friend. 😸 I think a lot of us struggle with the balance of the day job and creativity. I know I do. I also have a bit of an easier time with things in the warmer months, when I can more easily walk around in the morning and take photos. Though what I really want to do is set up portrait sessions in my studio/house. 🤷‍♂️🙈

The struggle is real with a 9-5, but it's inspiring that you are showing that one can still be creative when approaching photography with personal emotion and shooting what feels right at the moment, things a 9-5 lifestyle tends to suppress. Just like when I was younger I somehow managed to set aside my school and job worries for the moment and switch my brain into photography mode. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and images... btw, you friend is lovely as well. Great shot of her in that first one.

Only buying photo gear I "need"😳What a novel idea. I think I've made huge mistakes. The one invaluable commodity, that one should never spend frivolously, is one's time.

Love your images and they certainly evoke a lot of emotions. I think there are a lot of people myself included that wish it was possible to be just a photographer or creative but the reality is that we often have to work to live. On a positive side though we do get the chance and opportunities to enjoy at times what makes us truely happy to ofset the reality of life.

Really enjoyed the 'authenticity' of this video. Your words and little view into your life really seemed to fit with the images you made. I especially enjoyed how you described the edit and how important it is; the difference between the reflection of reality versus the image 'feeling' more like a memory was especially enlightening. Those film stocks are not from Ilford. The cine color is Kodak vision 3 and the Vintage Tone is Orwo's Wolfen NC500. So, Vision 3 is film made for movies. It needs to have softer colors and lower contrast, as movies have lots of post processing. If feels like it's not consistent, but i think it is more sensitive to changes in light than other film stocks, and it also gives more flexibility for editing. The Wolfen NC500 film is one of the few color film stocks currently available NOT created by Kodak, so that's something. Also, Ilford Vitage Tone is much more expensive than the NC500. For one, i think ilford's comes in a metal canister while Orwo's comes in a plastic one, but still there's quite a lot of difference in price

+ 1 for the hand with purple flowers ! You could try a lens hood ,or have a shop check your exposure meter in the AE-1 to see if it is reading consistent, perhaps. I have had good luck using Kodak Vision 3 250 D at box speed. Low grain and cinema color. Best wishes !

Watching a video from you always feels like a genuinely open and luminous moment...My favorite picture from the lot is the hand with the purple sweater reaching for the tiny purple flowers. I'd feel mitigated about the color balance of the cine but the prominent grain and selective color effect of the vintage could be great ! I hope your first steps in this yet unknown city/country are happy and stimulating.
