Forget about being different. Forget about being noticed.
Spend a few years photographing whatever is within a mile of your front door. Be yourself
    Take YOUR pictures.
Dress the way YOU want to dress. Use the film and or camera and lens YOU want to use.
    Be authentic.

I have been a photographer for 40 years. I've only had two photographs published. I make my art for myself when somebody sees one of my photographs generally you don't get much feedback. There are way too many photographer wannabes with weak compositions. I like your choice of camera. I have a pair of Ae1 programs. One for B&W one for color. It's great advice to shoot near your home and shoot often

I am so glad you are on your journey. I've been a film photographer for 35 years with another full time job to back it up because no one will pay me for what I like to shoot and I wouldn't really want that anyway. Stay diverse and keep shooting. There are so many people who enjoy my photography, and that is just a bonus. I would never want that for a job. One thing I would recommend is to get rid of any social media. It really screws your photography. I deleted my instagram channel with 3 thousand followers in 2016 and I have never felt better. It destroyed my photography.

Thank you for your video and thoughts. A good reminder to be myself. If we let our art portray who we are genuinely then that’s being true and authentic. Keep up the good work you are doing here.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. It got me thinking. I believe that being different is a natural effect when you do what feels right for you and express yourself that is aligned with you.

I think that people shouldn’t take themselves too seriously, they should take pictures without thinking , enjoying those moments, without taking care of how their images would be perceived by others.

I enjoyed watching your video, very interesting and thought provoking.
I think it's human nature, the desire to be unique and stand out, even in the way we look, how we dress, the colour or style of our hair etc to the car we drive or house we live in and how we style it...
We strive to be a trend setter, rather than a follower or somebody who copies others.
Social media amplifies this to a certain degree.
But in reality it's almost impossible, like you say it's all been done before by somebody else...and probably by many others😊
In my work of textile design, I've always tried to be 'unique' and have my own style.
When I've seen my designs copied, almost identically, I'm actually flattered that they thought my design was that good.😁
A manager I worked for many years ago wisely advised me, if you create something so good, it will get copied by others and they'll claim it as their own.
We see this a lot in music, where other peoples work is copied etc
Happy New Year Flora and best wishes for 2024, always follow your dreams.👍

Thank you so much for sharing here!
It is so nice to see others do similar work with yours (not to steal and claim as theirs of course), but it is always so great to inspire and be inspired by others!

Great video Flora. I've been on my journey for eight months - so the priority for me is just to create. However, this New Year, I recognise the need to expand out into personal project themes in order to grow. The one keepsake of 'not sharing' at this stage, is that no one can say what I'm doing is no good - so I have freedom to find my way and share when ready. I take inspiration from people like Avedon, one of the most famous fashion photographers, who went on to do 'American West' as a personal project - so even the greats can get stuck creatively. More videos like these please.

Not sharing doesn't mean you are not creating. Every stage of the journey is important, not everything is about the results! Thank you for sharing some of your thoughts here

Thank you for that, I am 4 years into the journey and am of a similar mind, I have found the project perspective and produce zines which I give away - I'm not digital or social media oriented and see Saul Leiter who is very humble as an example of the means to satisfaction in the journey.

A very nice video presentation Ms. Flora K. Keep building your relationship with JEHOVAH daily (The Creator of The Heavens and Earth). HE (through your personal prayers) will give you more powerful Visions and Dreams that will increase your unique Photography Skills. HE certainly owns and directs everything in Mother Nature that we observe with our eyes. I just plan and strive to think more like HIM (righteous thinking patterns). I have been loving the Photography Art since 1974. Keep climbing higher, Bro. Leo (67 yrs old), Wednesday, Jan-10-24 @ 9:48 am EST USA.
