Why Getting Your Paperwork In Order Is So Important #costofliving #carefees
It’s often the simple things that have the biggest impact isn’t it? Zip lock de-icer is a great idea. And not shopping at the weekend, I can think of several reasons that’s a better idea. Sitting down now and then to think how we can simplify life is always worthwhile I find. Forecast is snow and ice here this week 🥶 I need to insulate my outside tap and hose! ❄️Stay snuggly and safe Karen xx
Since I have been staying with my sister to help her through her recovery from cancer and then a broken hip, my husband has had to fend for himself a lot more. He doesn't like leaving the house (combat PTSD), so he orders groceries online. He loves it! He gets exactly what he wants when he wants it, and is able to spend the time he would have been shopping working on his computer. (He is not a complete hermit - he just dislikes crowds).
I can't wait to try the hot water in a bag trick! Thanks for sharing it.
When bad weather is due I always make a pizza,or a big quiche,so if the power goes off I can just cut pieces off as I want them. I do have a little camping stove though for hot drinks.
Please look up safe wood to burn Not all wood is safe Like fencing
Karen Why can’t you walk for a long time!
I don't do online shopping I don't do grocery pickup I prefer to pick out when I'm getting
I genuinely believe getting your delivery on Thursday evening is the best way forward. I’ve said before your time is your most precious commodity. It’s getting colder and both the mornings and nights are really dark. Like you I burn wood. It’s also my cooker. If you’ve a warm house why leave it? A couple of bargains likely don’t justify the petrol or your time. You could bake a loaf, cake and make three dinners in the time you save. I’m not idle but I do value my time.
Funny how temperature extremes force you to change your routine Here in Australia heatwaves have started and a reminder at how hot summer will be I have to get up early if i want to leave the house since i rely on public transport. Ditto for outside jobs, watering my plants etc I wonder if you will see snow? I'm jealous if you do. I pace my activities in a similar way. I hate Friday shopping, it's so crowded
Thought of you today. I made Scotch pies.😂 Also sausage rolls and mince pies.
❤
The deals haven't been around for us as much, either, not with meat. We are having to slow a lot down, except grabbing real bargains on anything else while they are still available.
What kind of soup did you make? I am ill again with a cold and cough. Could do with a nice warming soup. 😊
I find shopping during the week is soooo much better than using precious weekend time. I find cooking and food prep is very time-consuming and exhausting, but I do nearly all my own from scratch cooking nonetheless. I often end up too tired to even fill the dishwasher, so it gets left to the next day (or next day after that). Some people just have lower energy levels than others, and can't keep going as long. I always aim for a rest day on Sunday but oftentimes that ends up being a half day of rest.
Some supermarkets have a scheme where you can go in to buy your shopping, then have it delivered. I have M.E. so I order mine online and have it delivered. I cook from scratch too. Processed food leaves me feeling not so well afterwards.
I get all our essentials delivered... I get one on a Friday for the boy, he likes a pizza at some point over the weekend... It's when I buy our treats... although it's nice to pop into town and see what's new? My heating I control with the thermostat, I keep it at 18 on a night in winter and just turn it down to 10 while sleeping so it's not hot, just keeps the chill off... If it turns itself on through the night it's proper cold out xxx
Come on Karen, there’s two adults in the house and you now work part time. There’s no excuse to leave dishes overnight. Washing clothes is a no brainer as is tidying up things before you go to bed. As a fellow Scot I’m straight talker like it or not, I enjoy your channel mostly but seriously it doesn’t take much to keep a home clean and tidy.
How rude!!
I wash the dishes. My son is supposed to dry them. He might do that once a week. There's two adults in my house 😮😅 He thinks the dish rack is a storage solution.
Agree@@anniegreen4205
@@anniegreen4205I don’t know. Why put yourself through it - what’s a few pots the next day? Live and let live. We are all going to be a king time dead. We all need to treat ourselves gently.
Are you that much of a snob? Get over it or move on.
I should give the Friday night a try. The weekends are rather like not having a day off from gotta-dos. Sometimes it would be nice to have a day where I didn't have to hit the pavement and go somewhere. I just got a notice that my house water connects through lead pipe. Any wonder why we're all exhuasted? It's the things you don't expect that hit the hardest, isn't it?
Go with the Friday shopping, and maybe it just might give you some time to spend doing other things.x
skinny protein bar... things 😂 you do make me laugh
It is very cold here in Wales, the wind from the sea is so cold it stings your face. Definitely time for winter warmers.
What kind of blankets?🌲I'm making potato/mince casserole today!♥️🫑
Well next week we’ll be in the low 70s. Praise God really looking forward to it. I bought a chicken and am trying roasting it with no spices sound like something completely different
I did my shopping on Friday after work and felt SO relieved I didn't have to go out on a chilly, rainy Saturday! Hot soup for me tonight :D Have a great week!
Love having shopped n no longer have required needs to force me back out and about😊❤

I hit lucky in Tesco this week and stocked up on Tesco finest ground coffee dated to 2026, reduced to 83p a bag 😁
Thank you Karen. We have always tried to support local businesses and the best and fairest food and commercial practices and businesses, although this can be expensive and not always affordable. We had our own allotment for many years so know how challenging growing your own food can be and how much hard work goes into it. Previous generations knew this but many people now have no understanding of it because they haven’t needed to know. As life has changed and become so busy in different ways people just buy everything in.
I don’t understand all the aluminum foil. You can use parchment paper to catch the grease. I would think the foil would stop the air from circulating to cook.
Karen, You may already know this, but if you are worried about power cuts, a tip I came across, seems quite sensible. Fill an old lemonade bottle with water and keep in the deep freezer. Then in a power cut, put it in the fridge. This extends valuable hours of fridge coolness as it slowly defrosts, to keep milk and fresh foods that bit longer. Simple to do and costs nothing.
Bux box of washing powder, big fabric softener if you use it ,can last you a year get from the supermarkets check grams andxwashes work out best value, then that is one item you do not have to worry about Do that over time, four bags of pasta, four bags of rice Eventually you have then cut down on trips to supermarkets less stress, less, petrol I do this with an online shop, sometimes you may find meals a bit repetitive but as ling as the body has fuel, its a win win
Thanks for the reminder to check the screen wash etc!
You can't beat home-made or home grown, best you'll get in supermarket is organic... You need to get good at both before getting too adventurous, otherwise you can throw good money after bad... To bake a nice cake from scratch isn't cheap, eggs alone are pricey, then butter, sugar and flour, some even need extra baking powder etc x lol x I buy all the dried stuff in, keep in airtight containers, so if anyone asks for cake I've only usually the eggs and butter to buy in... I stopped using spreads and oils for cooking a while ago, gone old school, my stuffs just like grandmas... Another good skill, learning how to re-heat food properly... Best book you could ever have is a real Dairy Diary... I'm not joking, I've got one going back to 1994 and it's still relevant today... It's got ALL the conversions in it... I keep meaning to get a new one to compare it 30 years later xxx
First thing i did was go online to find a butcher that delivered. Will try it out. There is only one butchers shop near me.
Yep even our dog felt cold today and cut short her walk.
We have been blessed with such beautifully sunny weather here in my part of Ontario, Canada! Yes, the temps are way down, but the sunshine makes up for that. Been to three Christmas bazaars today! The start of the festive season for sure. Hope everyone has a splendid Sunday tomorrow!
Bit random but I love your salt mill! Xx
We are on a rollercoaster again. We need to be ready. We were looking for an extra wick for our kerosene heater, just in case.
Omg i got mine out today and checked it all over up on my list to get a spare 2 gas cylinders but never in a million years would i have thought of buying an extra wick so thank you for this !! Px
@@paulamartin6049 Hi, Paula! I have gotten extras of anything I can think of! Mine runs on what you'd call paraffin, or heating oil there, I believe. Technically, it is "C2 Fuel Oil". That is something different here. It's amazing that we claim to speak the same language sometimes.
Wow -5 , here in London by next Wed , temperature will be dropping to 0 , at the moment anyways . Trust you are keeping well 😊
We have had fog the last two mornings and it has gotten much colder. Time to find my fluffy socks
We’ve had thick frost most mornings and barely above 0 temperature. It gets to the giddy heights of 8 degrees. We light our fires in the morning.
Oooo, -5 C is getting a bit serious Karen. We are dropping to +5C this week in South Wales, which feel cold enough.
After a fairly mild fall, it’s started to get really cold here in Boston, Massachusetts especially late afternoon and evening. Made some potato soup this morning.
Several meals out of the pork and chicken.
Karen can I just check with you that the old fence Patrick is going to chop into firewood is not pre treated or pressure treated wood? If so it will contain arsenic and cannot be burned in a log burner. Only untreated wood is ok. Please don't poison yourself. You keep warm and get that hot water bottle ready and hot choccy too.
Please don't fall into the habit of trying to justify your choices to strangers on the internet - you'll never please all of them.
Karen your fun...... I dont mean to upset you with my comments. you know this? I find you so funny sometimes....
@46Joe you managed to upset quite a few of us.
@@amsodoneworkingnow1978 I dont understand why people get so up set ?They are just comments, vloggers need to expect to receive comments . People need to "man up" and stop being so sensitive. Karen is one of my favourite people on YOU TUBE . If a viewer gets upset because of something I said , well its their problem. In my opinion I have said nothing nasty at all, I've just expressed my view.
Hafe been watching the cold creeping down over Scotland. We are lucky on the welsh coast as the sea will keep us a few degrees warmer. Stay warm and cosy.
GOOD EVENING FROM FLORDIA
Thick blanket on the bed, gas meter topped up. Bring on the cold weather!
I put my chicken in slow cooker, whack some herbs and salt/pepper on top.
Karen should of just put it in the oven if you are gonna put the airfryer for an hour. Extra pennies to save to much faffing for me. This isnt a hate comment . Really enjoy your videos. Take care x
I said the same thing..... but people are hating me...! I only speak what I feel....
We are not nasty to her we are just saying why not just put them in the oven .or she could of used her triple slow cooker . I do enjoy her videos .
It's still less electricity than the oven...
@@corinnedews7277for few quid . Sure she can scarfice somewhere else in her bills to afford the oven. Yes I do use my oven now and again.
@@corinnedews7277not when you have 2 air fryers on at the same time....! like Karen had . (she still had to use the main oven in the end ,as the chicken was far to big for the air fryer) (am I wrong? )
