I just heard via Gareth Wyn Jones' youtube channel. Farmers have been shouting about food scarcity for a while now, am hoping people are behind them in sounding the alarm. Here in the US large Ag has driven out the small farmers, and the prices are now sky high. A week's strike to get them to reverse the inheritance tax is just enough to show the public how much they depend on farms. Because if the tax stays then the small farms will all be gone within a generation. -Jill
The most precious gift we have is time. It’s also the one thing that we cannot ration. Every minute of the mundane is one less for relaxation or pleasure. For me, robbing the mundane and paying ourselves enjoyment has to be the best option.
We need to do everything we can, calmly. I have seen people all morning fighting online and ranting about politicians; there isn't a lot we can do about yours mine or theirs and what they have in the works, but we can make things easier for ourselves and whoever we can. There is no sense in wasting our energy trying to fight what is already coming to stop it, but we can put our hearts, minds and energy into helping ourselves, (and others). 36 years ago I moved into a 3 level townhouse(rowhouse), just as I started having health problems, so what I did was to never go to another level for one thing; I made myself take things there with me, bring things from there when I left and/or do housework while there. I do that room to room, although you would not recognize it on some days!
I'm making my own food for the dog. Mixed vegetables, ground beef, brown rice, sweet potato, pumpkin, dog kibble that he doesn't like, vitamin pill recommended by my vet - cook the beef and pack in canning jars and pressure can it. He loves i
Loving the positive vibes today (well last night). I've been on the phone to my eldest this morning (it's her birthday) and while we were chatting I swept the lounge and did some super-glueing. Before that, I fed the cats (our two and our six 'feral' kittens - who, in other news, will all be sterilised next week and returned to us) while the kettle is boiling every morning. Have a good day. 😁
My kitchen would be in pretty pitiful shape if I didn't drink tea, because I use the time heating water and steeping a pot of tea to straighten and tidy. When I warm up a meal in the microwave, I have more minutes to help keep the kitchen usable. It's amazing how much difference even those few minutes can make. Now if I could just figure out a routine to work on the paperwork backlog, I'd be all set.
I think we will survive better if we have skills of self sufficiency Younger people will learn these out of necessity. All my gardening, cooking, preserving and being able to sew and knit etc are self taught You have plenty of skills and the organisation will happen when you figure out what's important Health needs to be sorted and that might change your priorities It's good to be positive 😊
My mum spent half her life cleaning, we were often late for things just because the room hadn't been hoovered or there were pots in the sink... I can happily walk out and come back to a bomb site x lol x Its been a slow declutter and decoration as I go along... I've got 6 years worth of paperwork, clothes and junk to go through, so it's been slow progress, but progress never the less... I'm doing jobs now that I couldn't on crutches... I can get up the step ladders and tackle the cupboards... I can paint into all the ceiling joints, I'd used a pole and paint pad, but the finish just didn't look crisp so I'm back up there now getting ready to start another coat... None of it is important though... The exercise to the knee is a must, so the more bending, climbing the better, but I'm being cautious too... and why it's taking so long... I'm one person sorting another person daily... I still have to keep my boy entertained, fed and watered x lol x I tell people to take us as they find us, everything will be done for our first guests on the 22nd December, we have all the family round for a pre Christmas tea and all the trimmings x lol x So long as your healthy and happy, the rest just falls into place xxx
Karen, did you hear the farmers are going on strike and not delivering to the supermarkets from November 17th, for a week? It might o on if the gov don't take it seriously.
My bad habit : hating paperwork so much that I leave it hanging around 'to be done'. Oh I open the envelopes, I know what is there but dont do ( whatever is required - file it/ write the cheque/ send off for the guarantee etc! My good habits are:'while the kettle boils' ( according to my granddaughter " Nannys run on tea like cars run on petrol" 😂). So while the kettle boils I will take out the rubbish - put that tin away - do some small exercises ( push ups using the kitchen side or upward stretches). Second good habit ' never leave a room or go upstairs without something in your hand to put away'. Definitely not perfect but they help!
I also make use of time when doing other tasks in each room. It is a time and efficiency hangover from my work life too, (especially while the air fryer heats up).
All I can say is "Me too." I am rubbish at keeping track of things, would rather spend my time canning than taking inventory (although I need to find room for everything.) But first, clean up the mess to make room for a new one.
Make a list of little short tasks you can get done in the time it takes to boil the kettle, then you won't be losing time trying to think of stuff to do while the kettle boils.
I went through an 1972 magazine. Those people made everything. They learned crafts, upholstery everything. People today buy unnecessary stuff. People need to go less to shops. Fix, re fashion and look better after their belongings. Less buying of artificial non stick appliances that actually causes cancer. Do your researching. Yes. It's society accepting all these useless stuff in shops. Buy quality and less stuff and look after it.
Gosh yes, I made candles, using frozen juice tubes, dyed macrame rope and made plant hangings and wall hangings. There was the time I reupholstered our “Mediterranean “ loveseat, chair, ottoman. Harvested and cracked black walnuts with a small sledge hammer to make nut bread. I also sewed clothes for the two year old. I had forgotten all this.
Well, not to throw water on your fire Karen but I say you are organised, motivated, enthused and growing pretty fast and maybe slow down and notice that sometimes during your drives to do better? It's how you get to post these videos isn't it? Your passion xxxx
"We'll get through this." I am not clear to what you are referring. What happened yesterday or today that concerned you? I can see you are struggling with more than being "disorganized." I think there is something deeper, and organizing your house is a symptom of trying to gain control of things you feel are outside your control. Sometimes our homes are a microcosm of the bigger picture. What is going on that are your biggest concerns? Maybe you don't wish to talk about it, and that's fine. It's a strange time right now, and people are struggling in several ways. Not the same for everyone. People are having mood swings and outbursts, I have observed, over nothing. But also it seems a lot of things (sometimes small, sometimes big) are going wrong and causing problems on every level, all over the planet. Maybe it's just me that thinks this.
Farmers strike starting 17th for 1 week. Please show your support - no farmers, no food! 👍💪😊

It takes 21 days to forge a habit. I use finch self care app for my mental and physical health care for forging good habits.
what else do you buy that you could make? Sauces? Like sweet and sour sauce or honey garlic sauce? Anything else?
Does that hour of doing stuff have to be as soon as you get in? Cos I wonder if allowing yourself a couple of hours rest first might be wiser.
