You read my mind, Patricia 😄. I speak a certain way, with a certain pronunciation that friends, family and others around me understand perfectly. But as soon as I put my headset on, I speak differently: my speaking "vices" go away, I speak with controlled pauses, and I am more articulate, I use my own native language correctly when I'm interpreting. So for me, the headset becomes my uniform. Strange, because I had used this headset for a couple of years before, when I was working in finance and had conference calls with the C-suite and with peers, and I hated them. Now that I'm interpreting, I love them.

I absolutely love the idea of a 'mental uniform'. I have a set of clothing that I only use for work and as soon as I get dressed to go out to an assignment, that role comes one. I agree with the point that you meant about interpreters as actors, indeed, accurate interpretation requires a certain degree of role-play or 'getting into someone's shoes'.

Thank you, Judy! It was a bit sad when it happened but as time went by I think it benefited me a lot. Some of my friends or family members who happen to see one of my videos still ask me, "Why do you call yourself Rosa?" LOL

My name is not Aggie either! I adopted it since making my first English friends because they found 'Agnieszka' to be very difficult to pronounce it. Funnily enough, my last name mean 'April' so in Spanish I would be Ines Abril...

Thank you for that information. I use my middle name Jasmine, especially in my yoga class and yes I can feel the difference. I say, Tracy** it's just a business name for getting things done, but Jasmine even people want to talk to me more lol. It's funny but true.

Not exactly the same topic but my real name is Adalilia. I only have one name and here in the USA most people have a hard time pronouncing it. I used to tell people to call me Lily for short but a nice lady told me: No, no… your name is Adalilia, I will call you by your name, and everyone should respect and call you by your name. Her words really stayed with me and I started liking my name. A lot of people seem interested in pronouncing it correctly. Because it is a bit rare here I feel somewhat empowered Lol It’s pronounced exactly like it is written and there’s a “Lili “ in there but most still butcher it. I get called Adela, Adelia, Adulia

Hello Rosa! Really love your videos. I am about to start a new job as a medical interpreter. I was wondering if you had any tips when you don't understand the name of a medicine or procedure what do you do and how do you recommend handling it? I am very stressed about situations like that. Thanks beforehand!

@@Interprepedia I was scammed by a company named l'interprepedia. I was hired then told there was no work available. I brought a laptop, everything he told me I needed to start work.
Then just said there wasn't any.
His name is Mohamed El sisi. Said he was starting his company.
I lost money because of him.
I see he is still recruiting people on LinkedIn.
      Are you a different company?

    • @Interprepedia

Oh, no! :( I feel terrible this happened to you. I will try to warn others so that this doesn't happen again. I have nothing to do with them. I don't have a company or work for them. I'm an interpreter who created this channel (interprepedia) to share resources with other colleagues. I believe someone tried to copy my channel's name but I'm not affiliated to them in any way.

lol… But coming to the US They had always call me Maria, and I don’t identify with it. 🥲🫠🫣😅🥴 it is Sooo frustrating and sad.
