Welcome to Wisconsin Trout Fishing! I mainly fish the WI Driftless region. Trout fishing is fun and easy to get started. Trout are consistently rated the best inland fish for consumption and are delicious!! I do not name streams or places on TH-cam. There really are no secrets out there. I recommend you check the WI DNR Trout stream maps dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/trout/streammaps.html for places you wish to fish. A nice outing here. Browns at 17.25 and 16.75. Several 13+ as well as a zillion dinks. Really happy to see this stream improve this year. It's been three years since a major fish kill. Obviously, these larger fish made it thru the kill event. Larger browns in the 17" range are likely 4-5 years old. Happy fishing!

An early morning started was hampered by dirty water in the western driftless. There are some clear signs of recent flash flood that ravaged the area last week. 3 stops here. Plans A and B gave up around 10 small brookies with a best at 11". Plan C again was on fire. A fat 18" brown at the start. Many quality browns that were fed and feisty. Shebs and I get out here for evening fish. We tried a brookie spot looking for some nice action. Started super slow. Water here was almost 65F at 5pm. the mosquitoes were pretty bad. I managed a tanker 15.5" and Shebs picked up several 12" fish on the back half. Lotsa nice water and scenery here. Made is out as sunset hit, which meant not many fish to hand - 10 to 20. My buddy Brad and i get out here. Went to a different section of a recent fish kill stream. Again, there were fish around. So good to see this stream rebound. Around 20 or so to hand. Brad caught a brookie too, only the second brookie I have ever seen there. Brad also hit a nice brown on Plan B before calling it. Happy fishing!

Decided to take a solo look at a local stream that had a large fish kill three seasons ago. I was happy to see fish interested right at the in bridge. Hot bite with 60 to hand. Lotsa smalls in the 5-9" range. I did get a 15" and probably had 10 fish at 12 or better. I saw two upper teens fish swipe but no hook up! Miraculously, I actually caught a brook trout here. Adam and I are on a special brookie outing here. Plan C was bonkers. Many doubles, a double double and a lot of fish to hand. Best brookie was 15, with probably a dozen 12 . Some fishing in the rain as well. A good time was had by all! Happy fishing!!

Good day turned choco moo moo! Shebs and I planned a late afternoon to dusk outing here. Mother nature did some odd stuff to foils us. We never felt or saw a drop of rain, but you can see creek conditions change here rather abruptly. Well the 4th of July weekend closes with Shebs and I here. Best brown was a humongous 16" female. I accidentally left the camera batteries in the car and didn't know until the first battery died and I went to replace it. DOH! There are a couple slomos here, but the rest of this 5 hour wade was pretty good as well - 40 to hand between Shebs and I. Thanks for watching and happy fishing!!

Fishable water was hard to find today! I ended up at the very head waters of a small stream. If you like tiny stream fishing and brook trout, you'll like this video. Several browns here too. Beautiful scenery. Happy fishing!!

Happy 4th of July weekend! Baby back ribs on the BBQ yesterday were awesome. Today, the rain skirted around the area and I was able to find some clear water. Happy 4th of July weekend folks! Not much fireworks, just some sparklers! hahaha. With continuing rain on tap, I found a mildly stained area with high current. Where do you get your bigger blades? I cant find anything bigger than a #7. I hear you say up to 15, and i think 18's.

In this video, are you are you using the #9 Panther Martin in line style blade? Or is it a Colorado or something?
@@pjconnelly5334 I used both 15s and 9s there. I only use inline PM style blades. The have much more action as they helicopter on the drop while clevis blades drop like a rock. Happy fishing!

I've been trying to fish the wisconsin Creeks for trout and haven't had much luck. How long is your rod? and how do you manage your spinner through the current? I feel like my spinner is never in the water for more than 5 seconds. Perhaps the creeks I'm fishing are too running too fast
Another great video buddy. We got 2 1/2 rain the other day, and just before the rain i hit the stream, and caught 52 brookie, biggest 16. The browns you caught on here were pretty colors. Bright golds, spots, and background colors. Great outing for you, and us to watch. Thank you

Yes, I hope that the biodiversity comes back to this stream so there will be a food chain for a few brown trout over 20 inches. Great fishing in your local stream.
@@davidstakston1950 Me too. That stream always seemed top out at 19s, but I am hopeful. There is plenty of food and the water stays cold. The weeds and rocks lower angling pressure considerably. Time will tell. Happy fishing!
Does this creek also have pike?
I have never caught one there. Probably low from the big muddy, there could be a few. It's way too cold, pike would not come in there before they spawn in 55F water elsewhere. Happy fishing!

Yep, getting old sucks. LOL. Finally got out this past weekend. My plan B was a mess. it was a long walk to get to, then there were branches down everywhere. I was hoping it was going to clear up but after a few falls and swear words I marked it as unfishable. Did catch a few at plan A and C but not as many as I was hoping. They were hitting but just not taking it which seems to be my overall fishing this year - I was using the new reel ;-) Loved it!
Which reel did you go with? When fish tap of follow only, I will try to size down. In mid summer, I carry a few size 9s and a couple size 6s for that purpose. Happy fishing!
You may consider getting a net or reaching down to lift the fish instead of hoisting them all up by their mouths or flipping them into the rocks.

How many 20+ inch browns have you gotten this year? Great video as always
@@otterlover2397 ZERO! My best so far was a super fat 19" female, successfully released. This is the longest into a season I have gone without a 20"+ fish. The old record was July 12th. At the end of the day, doing what I love to do. I think the cumulative effects of prolonged drought have had a major impact of fish growth. This year we have more normal water levels in area streams. The fish are resilient and will do well when conditions permit. Happy fishing!

The spill killed off the food chain for brown trout if the spill killed all the brown trout. George C. Becker, the author of the book Fishes of Wisconsin, was against the Wisconsin DNR for using rotenone in Wisconsin streams back in the 1970's. George C. Becker petitioned the Natural Resource Board and Governor Patrick Lucey to not allow the Wisconsin DNR fish biologists to poison Wisconsin streams with rotenone.

Any idea what caused the fish kill in this stream?
A company was fined. It would appear to be discharge form a cheese factory that is located at the head waters of the stream. I am not sure what the actual discharge was. It looks like it is on the rebound. Happy fishing!

Just passing through, there wasn’t much for lightning, so we weren’t too concerned. Not far from the out, And……. we didn’t care much about the rain once Ron started catching multiple 14-15 inch brookies!

@@wahbiahassoon5392 not sure what you mean. Sometimes fish win. In that tiny stream, they almost always hook themselves. In that current there is no letting a fish take the lure. Either way, always looking to improve. Lighter drag may have kept that one hooked. Happy fishing!

With a little biodiversity (chubs) the brook trout got bigger. Just imagine, when the stream had frogs, salamanders, crayfish, white suckers, etc. there probably was a 5lb brook trout.
@@davidstakston1950 yep, oddly enough, DNR stocks a couple hundred BROWNS there each year. Don't know why. Ton of cold spring water in the head waters and obvious natural reproduction. Happy fishing!

Do Brook trout live to 2-3 years old (12 inches) in Wisconsin streams and then die from starvation? No biodiversity so no food chain for brook trout over 12 inches. In Canada where there is still biodiversity (minnows, white suckers, crayfish, frogs, etc.) in the streams the brook trout live to 5 years and get 20+ inches long (5-10 pounds) and do not starve to death.
@@davidstakston1950 not sure, but I would guess brookies live 5-7 years in streams. There are more under 12 than over 12 for the reasons you mention and others. There are still streams will healthy populations of larger brook trout, but nothing like Canada. Happy fishing!
There are brook trout over 12. I have caught and released them up to 22 inches in northern Wisconsin. There are no where near as many as In Canada I agree. I don't know if it is food or not, but I see lots of minnows, insects, mice etc that they eat. My thoughts are maybe pollution from run offs etc.
@@WisconsinTroutFishing When you have a day you cannot fish Google: Biennial Report of the State Conservation Commission of Wisconsin. The 1915-1916 report has a good explanation of trying to use gasoline to eradicate gill lice (Salmincola edwardsii olsson). They stated that brook trout infected with gill lice would die after spawning. So that can explain why infected brook trout reach spawning age at 8-12 inches will end up dying. Great history on trout and other fish in these historical records by State Conservation Commission reports. Enjoy the reading.
@@WisconsinTroutFishing Mother Nature's way of eradicating gill lice on brook trout is a symbiotic relationship with the endangered Eastern Pearl Shell Mussel's glochidia. The hatcheries should be trying to restore the endangered Eastern Pearl Shell Mussels.
