- Decided to take a solo look at a local stream that had a large fish kill three seasons ago. I was happy to see fish interested right at the in bridge. Hot bite with 60+ to hand. Lotsa smalls in the 5-9" range. I did get a 15" and probably had 10 fish at 12 or better. I saw two upper teens fish swipe but no hook up! Miraculously, I actually caught a brook trout here. First one ever in 13+ years. This is awesome for a stream that had no trace of trout over the past 3 years!! The spill that causes the kill was organic, so not a toxin. My guess is that most of these fish were stocked and growing over the past three years. This stream is capable of producing large browns and hopefully it's on the mend. Happy fishing!!!
Outstanding job Ron. Beautiful fish, great video
@@bradleymarquardt4464 thanks and happy fishing!
Bravo majstore.
@@pecanjesaaleksandrom1108 Thanks and happy fishing!
Ron ,,I tell you a little secret ,,,nasal decongestant spray stops bleeding immediately on people but I don’t know about trout ,,,be worth a try maybe.
Yeah, night not work well Bobby! Happy fishing!!
How many 20+ inch browns have you gotten this year? Great video as always
@@otterlover2397 ZERO! My best so far was a super fat 19" female, successfully released. This is the longest into a season I have gone without a 20"+ fish. The old record was July 12th. At the end of the day, doing what I love to do. I think the cumulative effects of prolonged drought have had a major impact of fish growth. This year we have more normal water levels in area streams. The fish are resilient and will do well when conditions permit. Happy fishing!
Ron, I fished this same stream earlier this year for the first time, not knowing anything about the fish kill. Caught plenty but nothing huge. From what I just read, the incident was several miles upstream. Did it really effect it much so far down? As a side note, I also haven't seen a brookie anywhere near this section in the 3 visits I made to it but, oddly got a Tiger right here.
That's the first tiger I have heard of there Tony, congrats! Have contacted several brookies there now!! On the effects of the kill, there is no where for dead fish to be seen except downstream. For two seasons prior, I saw no signs of trout and couldn't catch any. Limited effort for sure though. The good news is that it wasn't catastrophic or the stocking has been aggressive. There is no evidence I have found of additional stocking and some of the fish I caught here holdovers not stockers. Good news overall and happy fishing!!!
I was going to hit that one last week. Instead I went against my own intuition
Low expectations are the true key to happiness! Happy fishing!!
@@WisconsinTroutFishing love that saying. Kinda like my mom used to tell me, Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
How have the water temps been lately?
@@coreypoirier2 themps have remained good. AM temps mostly in upper 50s, PM temps low 60s. Happy fishing!
Any idea what caused the fish kill in this stream?
A company was fined. It would appear to be discharge form a cheese factory that is located at the head waters of the stream. I am not sure what the actual discharge was. It looks like it is on the rebound. Happy fishing!
