35 of the Weirdest Albums Ever Made
Disclaimer
These some very weird albums. Obviously, everyone understands
weirdness differently, so I tried to include albums that are objectively, "totally bonkers".
Again, obviously, I haven't listened to every strange and experimental album ever made,
that would be impossible. So if anyone has any further suggestions, please comment.
Now I have included two small excerpts of each album, as I ususally do, but believe me,
in this case THEY ARE NOT representative of how the albums sound.
Basically if you want to know how the albums do sound you would have to listen to each one
from start to finish.
That's why for the first time I decided to include mini descriptions/reviews of each album.
Note that by saying that an album is weird I DO NOT say that it is good or bad,
just that they sound different from what is the norm.
Personally, I enjoy some of them more than others.
P.S. 1 Albums are in alphabetical order
P.S. 2 Only one album per artist
P.S. 3 If you feel that some "famous" weird albums are missing, keep watching till the end ;-)

The 50 Greatest Stoner Rock Albums
Disclaimer These are my favourite stoner rock albums. Not many things to say here, just that I didn't include the new-old heavy psych scene that has developed in recent years, with considerable success, I must say. I also decided to include some early albums that were crucial for the development of the scene but cannot be called "Stoner Rock" as the term hadn't been invented yet. Also included ...
The 50 Greatest Albums in a language other than English
Disclaimer These are my favourite albums sung entirely in a language other than English. It is of course impossible to listen to every album or artist from every country around the world, so I focused more on releases that have a degree of recognition in their home country and/or the genre of music they represent. Up to 2 albums per artist. Feel free to comment! P.S. Albums are in alphabetical ...
The 50 Greatest Punk Rock Albums
Disclaimer These are my favourite punk albums. With punk being around since 1976 and so many subgenres being recognized, I had to enforce some rules again, so that this list doesn't become huge. (1) Punk is an attitude, yes, but punk is first and foremost a sound. So I chose those subgenres which are closer to the original sound as it was invented back in the 70's (punk rock, anarcho-punk, Horr...
The 40 Greatest Gothic Rock Albums of all time
(Reupload and Expansion af an earlier List) Disclaimer These are my favourite gothic rock albums. As always a few guidelines. (1) I considered albums that fall in the "classic" gothic rock sound. (2) That means that I didn't include electronic, industrial and gothic metal artists. (3) Up to 3 albums per artist. Feel free to comment! P.S. 1 - Albums are in alphabetical order. P.S. 2 - It's the o...
The 40 Greatest Krautrock Albums
Disclaimer These are my favourite krautrock albums. Not any significant guidelines this time, just an obvious one. The bands should be from a german-speaking country, that is, Germany, Austria or Switzerland. From then on, the usual (1) Up to 3 albums per artist. (2) Albums are in alphabetical order Feel free to comment! Keep watching till the end of the video...
The 25 Greatest Psychedelic Rock Albums (same list - reupload)
Disclaimer The albums are my personal favourites but also have to follow 3 other criteria: (1) They must have some kind of artistic merit (no guilty pleasures) (2) They must be recognized and adequately succesful at the time of release. (3) They have to clearly belong in the psychedelic rock genre. Feel free to comment! P.S. 1 Albums are in alphabetical order P.S. 2 Only one album per artist
30 Really Bad Albums by Great Artists
Disclaimer Since there are a lot of notoriously bad albums made by great artists, I had to apply a simple rule about which of them to choose. For that I used the rating of the RYM (rateyourmusic) website. It's a website where (1) users, not critics, rate albums (2) has been online for close to 20 years (and no, they are not payin' me!) As a frequent user of this web site, I think that an adequa...
The Greatest Album Runs Ever (Part I - Rock & Pop)
Disclaimer These are in my opinion the greatest album runs ever, in the genres of rock and pop music. But first let's see what I mean by album run: (1) For this video, an album run is made by 5 or more consecutive albums. 4-album runs are mentioned at the end of the video. (2) Live albums, compilations, collaborative albums, film scores and similar "special" releases are not taken in considerat...
The 20 Scariest, Most Disturbing Albums Ever

The 50 Greatest Extreme Metal Albums
Disclaimer These are my favourite extreme metal albums. As always a few things to clarify. (1) Most of the times in metal heavy = extreme, but for me this is not always the case as I think that it's the combination of lyrics, artwork image etc that makes a band extreme. (2) That's why I considered albums that are mostly out of the genres of Black Metal, Death Metal and Grindcore (including all ...
The 40 Greatest Thrash Metal Albums (reupload & expansion)
Disclaimer These are my favourite Thrash Metal albums. It is a reupload and expansion of my original list. The criteria remain the same, that is: (1) Up to 2 albums per band with one notable but I believe justifiable exception. (2) They have to clearly belong in the Thrash Metal genre. Two of the albums can be consider as beloging to the Crossover Thrash genre but I decided to include them anyw...
The 25 Greatest American Heavy Metal Albums
Disclaimer These are my favourite American Heavy Metal albums. As always, some ground rules first. (1) As the title says the albums have to be from American artists and they have to be classic Heavy Metal, that is, no Hard Rock, no Glam "Hair" Metal and no Progressive Metal. (2) I decided to include what is by some sites referred to as US Power Metal because to my ears doesn't have so many diff...
The 40 Greatest Progressive Rock Albums (same list - reupload)
Disclaimer These are my favourite progressive rock albums. Again I had to set some ground rules so that things do not become chaotic. (1) For me the first Progressive Rock album is King Crimson's first album released on the 10th of October 1969. Anything before that is not taken into consideration. (2) The Progressive Metal genre is going to be covered in a separate list, so no albums from that...
25 More of the Greatest Psychedelic Rock Albums (same list - reupload)
Disclaimer This is part II of my favorite psychedelic rock albums. There are some things to consider about this list in regards to my first one. (1) When I made the first list I decided to put in there the most widely recognized and popular albums. It's not that I didn't like them, it's just that these albums had priority over some less known ones. In this video there is no such limitation. (2)...

Generally excellent list. I'm particularly glad to see the criminally underrated Pretty Things on the list, as SF Sorrow is truly one of the greatest albums of the 1960s. But any compilation of psychedelic albums MUST include the Jefferson Airplane, possibly the most psychedelic group of all time. I suppose the problem is that you could include ALL their albums between Surrealistic Pillow and Volunteers on such a list. Also, you forgot The Soft Machine, who were more important in the psychedelic phenomenon than a couple of the bands you include above. Moby Grape were another superb psychedelic band.

Goblin's "witch" from the suspiria album is probably the most terrifying song I've listened to. Speaking of Goblin there was another Italian progressive rock album called "Ys" by "Il Balletto Di Bronzo" that people consider very scary (I feel its more deranged than scary but I can see why it could be scary for some).

    You got most of the good ones, with some clunkers. Psychedelic Music only existed for a short while, although a few artists have brought the genre back, for an album. By 1970, the Psych tropes had all been used in Bubble Gum, Mainstream Adult, Pop and Rock genres, diluting the field too much to continue. The albums on this list are the Best of Psychedelic Rock: 01 T R A F F I C ( I I ) Traffic (1968) 02 T H E R E A R E B U T F O U R S M A L L F A C E S the Small Faces (1968) 03 T W E L V E D R E A M S O F D R S A R D O N I C U S Spirit (1970) 04 I N S E A R C H O F T H E L O S T C H O R D the Moody Blues (1968) 05 S H I N E O N B R I G H T L Y Procol Harum (1969) 06 E L E C T R I C M U S I C F O R T H E M I N D A N D B O D Y Country Joe and the Fish (1967) 07 R O T A R Y C O N N E C T I O N Rotary Connection (1967) 08 I T ' S A B E A U T I F U L D A Y It's A Beautiful Day (1969) 09 W O W Moby Grape (1968) 10 E A S T E R E V E R Y W H E R E the 13th Floor Elevators

@@swimswammswom4822 you had better learn how to count h o s s. Only three albums? Their Classic Albums alone amounted to 4 counting discipline. And they're 1980 stuff which I don't even count was even more however the only albums I considered worth of crap was their first one Lark's Tongue in aspic and red. With all of these other great early seventies because that's all I count really progressive rock bands why do all of King crimson's unless you're a huge fan boy. Hey I love those three King Crimson albums okay however there were a lot of groups back then that should have at least had one or more albums mentioned. Especially the German and Dutch and even the Canterbury scene. I mean how about Focus camel nectar Gypsy Rare Bird Star Castle do you see what I'm saying why do all King Crimson albums? The same with yes why do all Yes albums. ELP from a musician standpoint blew them all away but you're only going to pick one ELP album? Why is it all of these channels select nothing but King Crimson yes and Rush? Especially Rush who only had two progressive rock albums farewell to Kings and hemispheres maybe 2112 and that was back in the 1970s nothing they released after that was progressive rock and actually stunk in my opinion. All that I'm saying is if you like this group pick an album or two there are plenty of unsung heroes out there that are far better than King Crimson even though I love King Crimson give these other bands a little love especially since some of them blow the doors off of King Crimson. I am the colonel of all that is p r o g.
