If you’re smelling the railroad ties, it’s probably the creosote they put on the ties. It’s used to keep wood eating critters away and preserve the ties. It you get that stuff on your skin, it can cause rashes.
@@AnyWayYouTravel That's some stinky stuff! Hey, where are y'all?!
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels It is stinky stuff. I lived in a town next to a railroad tie plant and you could smell that creosote all the time. We’re back in the states right now. However, we have trips planned, yet this year to Dallas, Colorado Springs, Las Vegas, Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon, and then, at the end of November, we’re heading back over to Europe for two weeks. We’re already planning travel into 2025.
Look boring as i'll get out.
Round Mountain is in big Flat Arkansas my family cemetery is on top of it round Mountain is an old volcano
Oh cool! I wonder if there are two? We learned of a Round Mountain while at the visitor center in Jasper. Their website says, "Enjoy hiking trails that circle a well-known local landmark - Round Top Mountain. The mountain can be seen prominently just south of Jasper and features some of the Ozarks’ most spectacular views. Located 2.4 miles South of Jasper on HWY ."
@AllAboutArkansasTravels ya there's probably two of them I'm not sure
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels round mountain in big flat has two cemeteries Warren has Honeycutts and the others have Wallace everybody over there is related 😂
@AllAboutArkansasTravels Freeman Cemetery where the Honeycutts are buried on round Mountain Road they've been there before the government took the Forestry all of that land belong to my ancestors
@@jameshoneycutt4858 Maybe my ancestors too. My mother's people lived in that area for a long time. I've got ancestors in the Big Flat township census in my genealogy records. Any Cyperts in your line?
Nice new opening sequence, although I think we can all agree that the music needs more cowbells. :) A little more seriously, videos like this are a big help for me. I'm still window shopping online for an Arkansas home, and I've looked at a couple of places near Jasper. I don't know the area myself, so your travelogues help inform me.
@@jbennett3578 Thank you for noticing! I'm still tweaking that opening sequence. I never was a fan of the old one too much. I just didn't have time to do anything about it. I like this one. It'll be a bit different on the next video because I've changed a few things on it but I like it a lot better. Jasper is a great area. I'll have some videos of Mountain View coming out in several weeks. You'll like that area too!
We were on vacation camping at Allison below Mountain View when it flooded. We barely got our campers out of the campground before it flooded
Oh wow. That's scary. I'm glad y'all made it out. That was quite a flash flood
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels The last report I saw was 19 inches
I wonder what the painted quilt patterns on buildings is about.
I do believe they are part of the Arkansas Quilt Trail. There are quilt patterns painted on barns and other places throughout the state in an effort to preserve heritage quilt patterns.
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels ok cool thanks
I love that park at Jasper! I had the same reaction the first time I found it. And I was at the Ozark Cafe a few months ago and sat where you were sitting! LOL. I love their food, and if you like mushrooms, their fried mushrooms are THE BEST!
Right?! I was expecting a small stream. :) We were there in May! I left my name on a napkin under the glass table top! I don't like mushrooms but the fried pickles were awesome!
They’re both the same. You can see it from several locations along Hwy 7. It’s big and long, so, not sure what’s confusing about that 😂
You can also see it at another scenic overlook about 3 miles south of Cliff House restaurant.
@@cindydodson5130 Yes, I explained it at the end of the video
Yeah i ate at the Cliff House Inn awhile ago. I need to go back.
Did you try the "Company's Comin' Pie?" I've heard it's good but I haven't tried it.
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels Yes! It was great! I was by there again not too long ago, but had already eaten in Jasper. Great View! Will have to stop at the other Canyon next time.
I have been there but never heard of the Buffalo River Canyon. It was many years ago that I was there
Same! Apparently, "Arkansas Grand Canyon" is just a marketing thing though
I don't like the name "Arkansas Grand Canyon". It's just a big, beautiful valley, so it should be called the "Arkansas Big, Beautiful Valley".
@@jbennett3578 Yeah, it's not very fitting
Thanks for the intel on the cabin! I am gonna have to stay there, how gorgeous! I love our state!! And I love the Arkansas Grand Canyon! Your channel is one of my favorites for sure.
Thank you so much for watching! The cabin is awesome and the view from it is amazing!
Also the lookout tower used to be higher!
What happened?
Never heard it called Buffalo River Canyon. Just Arkansas Grand Canyon.
It was crazy to learn that the Arkansas Grand Canyon name was just to get customers
Have you seen the Arkansas Grand Canyon?
The big pink flower Nona says is a peony.
oh!!! Thank you for telling me!
The pink flower is a peony from Nona😊
The trees get me every time. Arkansas is so green!
I know! I don't realize it until I leave AR and come back. It's like a jungle out here!
Drove from Harrisburg to jasper to get my wife a dog lol. 😂 crazy things we do
😁
The man you were talking to sounded very familiar. I can’t remember his name but he owns Buffalo Outfitters and he has been on Arkansas Outdoors and Exploring Arkansas.
Hmmm. I'll have to look him up!
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels I could be wrong and he might be retired from it now
My son and I want to do an overnight trip on the Buffalo
That would be fun! I've never done a multi-day float
If I’m not mistaken the Kendra drive in theater is in Marshall. They have car shows at the drive in sometimes. Haven’t been but planning to go sometime
I've heard a lot about it but I haven't been. Definitely have it on my list of things to do!
Have you been to the Arkansas Ozarks?
When I was a kid, we visited some older relatives in the Ozarks to pick strawberries, which were growing on the side of a hill so steep you had to watch your footing. As an adult, I've driven through the Ozarks a few times, but I haven't stopped to look around much. I did spend a day photographing headstones at a couple of cemeteries near Marshall, because that's where my mother's people lived. Even though I was kinda on a genealogy mission that day, I did spend some time just looking at the landscape. It's a beautiful place.
When is the best time of the year to float the river?
Any time as long as there has been enough rain. You'll probably want to shoot for spring or early summer. You can call the ranger stations or an outfitter to check water levels. When we floated, the water level was at 2-4 feet and it was perfect.
I've thought about buying one of those underwater camera drones, and that looks like it would a be a good lake to try one in. Happy Birthday, Timothy!
That would be so cool! I didn't know they made those! The problem is finding a lake clear enough to use one. Lake Ouachita would be a good spot for sure and probably even Norfork. I've tried to film underwater at Greer's Ferry and you couldn't hardly see anything. Thank you for the birthday wishes! I'll be sure to tell him
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels That might be why those underwater drones have not become popular. You spend thousands of dollars to get underwater pictures, and all you get are pictures of murky water. Murky video is all I've managed by putting a GoPro in the water. Sure, it's murky in 4K, but it's still boring.
Cool place I wonder if you could bring your own kayaks. I have 6 of them lol
You can definitely bring your own! You have 6?! We have 2 tandem inflatables that we travel with
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels three sit in. Three sit on including a child 6 foot and a canoe lol
@@jrcriner6542 Nice!! Do you kayak often?
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels only on vacation unfortunately. We kayak the sylimore creek and the white river mostly
Apparently, my mom took us here when we were kids but I don't remember it! What do you think about those 100ft water slides?!
I guess I'm getting cautious in my old age. When I saw those slides, my first thought was that someone was going to slide down, hit a turtle, and put out an eye. "Get some safety goggles on, kids!" I'd be a miserably un-fun parent. :)
@@jbennett3578 😁 Lol!
❤❤
Thank you for watching!
If things keep going well this year, I hope to visit the headwaters of the Arkansas River. I've been near there, in a canyon called the Royal Gorge. Then down to Napoleon, Arkansas later this year so I can say I've seen both ends of the river.
That would be really, really cool. I have seen the Arkansas River at the Royal Gorge as well but I haven't seen the headwaters. If you do it, I'd love to hear about it!
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels Like Arkansas itself, I don't think the Arkansas River gets as much attention as it deserves sometimes. I mean, it's a big ol' river that crosses half the United States. That's one reason I like your videos. You've been giving the river some of that attention.
Just stumbled across your channel. Fellow Arky from out towards Sheridan. Super cool stuff. I look forward to learning more about the neat things to do around the state. Thanks!!

Just the way you show everything around the park. I really appreciate being able to see as much of a park and what there is to do. You are always giving as much information as possible in each video
Pretty house with nice views, but I'd be nervous riding out a tornado watch there. Very much a place for young people. At my age, a bunch of steps going up to a rope bridge looks like too much work just to get in the house.
Yeah, we definitely went somewhere else for the tornado. Thankfully, it never reached us.
Cool thanks i use to live there but the prison the old quarters is actually haunted
I've had a few people on my Facebook page tell me that
Great video! Thanks for sharing the great locations!
Thank you friend!!!
I actually looked up Bass Reeves based on one of your other Fort Smith videos. What an incredible story. He was riding out to the frontier and catching dangerous bad guys. Must have been some pretty rough days. Me, I call it a "rough day" when they're out of chocolate sprinkles at the donut shop. Anyway, I'd say mission accomplished on the Fort Smith series. I learned a lot and developed an interest in the place. Good job!
I know exactly what you mean! It's a rough day for me if I run out of milk for my coffee. I don't know how Bass did all that he did. I was actually thinking about it the other day. How did he do so much for 30 years and make it through alive? Thank you so much for watching. I'm trying hard to grow this channel and it means a lot to me that you watch and comment.
@@AllAboutArkansasTravels I've had a domain called Arkansas Outpost since back in the 1990s. A lot of my life has been about wanting to get back to Arkansas, so I felt like kind of an "outpost". Your videos are like phoning home. "How are things in Arkansas? You visited Fort Smith? Cool! Talk with you next week."
