United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ส.ค. 2023
My name is Natalie and I was born in 1977. On this channel, I attempt to re-examine the news I consumed, the pop culture I adored, and the education I received during my ideal American Gen X childhood and beyond. Think of it as nostalgia with a heavy dose of criticism.

Impressive research on these lost backdoor has been offs not but now I have stunt Gramps and need a heartburn pill that really though. I watch all kinds of videos about lost media and what you've done here is nothing short of fantastic. Let's see what else you got.
I love the Mona back door of Who’s The Boss!
_Gloria_ was another spinoff from the Archie Bunker universe. This starred Sally Struthers, who was divorced from Mike. She goes out to the country and goes to work a veterinarian, played by the great Burgess Meredith. _Gloria_ had good ratings but wasn't renewed for a second season. The show was also an early vehichle for the team of Guntzelman and Marshall, who would later create _Growing Pains_.
I really enjoyed you video you forgot one near spinoff though. After Mrs Garrett died, in the Mayfair TV movie. Joe, Natalie, and Judy inherit a mortuary from her estate what? You didn't hear about the spin-off show that nearly happened from that. THE FACTS OF DEATH Haha. I guess I should have saved this one for Halloween or April 1st.
_Cheers_ also had the short-lived spinoff _The Tortellis_. This featured Carla's ex-husband Nick Tortelli on his own show. It lasted 13 episodes. This was in 1987. Dan Hedaya played Nick. Nick was married to Loretta, who was played by Jean Kasem (wife of Casey Kasem). Why did this fail? Nick wasn't a likeable character.
At the end of the second season of _Star Trek_ was the episode "Assignment: Earth." This episode featured two characters, Roberta Lincoln and Gary Seven. They were going to be in their own spinoff, but it wasn't picked up. This was a very early role for Teri Garr.
Marla Gibbs starred in the spinoff _Checking In_. Florence left her job with the Jeffersons to be the head housekeeper at a hotel. When they cancelled the show after four episodes, they put her back on _Jeffersons_ and said that the hotel had burned down. It also featured Larry Linville from _MASH_. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checking_In
I can't believe to failed to point out that in the different strokes episode 8:1, that's totally Budnick from Salute Your Shorts. 😂
Ah I just commented earlier on your part 1 video about Double Trouble lol. I loved that show. The Sagal twins were also in the Grease 2 movie. And I LOVED Head of the Class! I recently rewatched it. My favorite episode was when they did Little Shop of Horrors. Also loved Kate and Allie, Just the Ten of Us and Down to Earth! That theme song has been in my head ever since lol. Silver Spoons though...man that was my show when I was little. Ricky Schroder was one of my first crushes lol. I don't remember him ever singing though, so I must have stopped watching by then. My favorite episode was when Ricky dressed up as a girl to be Derek's date, and his friend JT started hitting on him lol. Gimme a Break was great too. I learned several years ago that the girl who played the youngest daughter later voiced the character Widget in the Nick Jr. show Wow Wow Wubbzy, which my kids watched :). Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
You missed Top Of The Heap which was a spinoff from Married With Children.
@BuccaneerBruce which would lead to another Spinoff Vinny and Bobby LOL!🤗🧐🤯🧛
I actually remember a couple of these! Definitely duds. On another note, my older brother had the ship wallpaper that was in Kelly’s Kids! It went so well with the dark brown paneling on the other wall 😂
Fred Dryer was The Nick Fury of the 80's
Is there anything more 80s TV than the over the back shot of someone opening a door to reveal a guest in a sitcom? Nobody ever asked who it was or looked through a peep hole. It was always “Oh let me open the door it must be Plot Complications!”
38 seconds is all it took for me to subscribe. Don't hate me if it takes another 10secs to hit the like button. PS. Your smile looks more comfortable and confident now. 8:58 HOLD UP! 14:48 Too Many Cooks vibes.
Lol I don't remember Hulk n' Thor but the actor who turns into Thor must've been the go to guy awhile for nerd transformations. He also played a nerd dork geek whatev who turns into a stud in an 80s flick called "HUNK". LOL loved that one back then tho haven't seen it since so no idea how it would be received now. Lol HUNK
The Different Strokes episode with the bike shop was very disturbing!
the Magnum PI, MacGyver, Hawaii 5-0, and The Conners were all good reboots.
🧱Natalie, NBC🦚yes not ABC chose not to air the Greatest American Heroine🦸pilot in 1986. Instead it was added to the syndication package and later included with the complete series on DVD as well as the last couple episodes that weren't broadcast on ABC. 🤗 📺📼👍
any time there is a popular side character that is comic relief and they give them a show it almost never works because what makes them work is they are used sparingly
Actress Leah Remini was in other failed tv shows such as The Man In The Family, First Time Out and Fired Up. Not to mention recurring and guest appearances on Cheers, Friends, Evening Shade, Home Improvement, The Commish, Diagnosis Murder, Renegade, Saved By The Bell, The Hogan Family and Blossom. She is best known for her role Carrie on King Of Queens. 🙋♀📺💃🙏
She was a TV queen in the 90s. I’ve been thinking about doing a video about her and all of those appearances.
@@mysocalledgenxlife She was working hard. It was really nice when she finally got her own series, and her series did well. She was Carla's daughter on _Cheers_. She was Taylor's girl friend on _Evening Shade_.
The very special episodes I think of are The Facts of Life one you are covering and Different Strokes Bicycle back room episode
The bicycle man episode is in my original video about Very Special Episodes. 🙂
Elsbeth is the only new show we watch -which my husband says is a combination of Monk and Columbo (w/ a female lead).
Darling, look after yourself. We can and will wait for ya.Rest those toothypegs, please.
Thor always loved beer. He also loved to party.
M*A*S*H had a terrible spin off
Thanks Natalie for another great content video!
I feel like Joey deserved a spot on this list even though it got a season on TV. Aside from that, the original back door pilot for Empty Nest, featuring Rita Moreno, also deserved a mention. The explanation from Moreno about how problematic the episode was is fascinating
Empty nest had a spin off also called nurses.
PLEASE make this a series!
Force Seven aka We Took Too Much Coke! i tried to watch Living Dolls a couple of years ago but i stopped after 2 ep. it was NOT good, i had a HUGE crush on Leah Remini, im trying to find a TV movie she did, i did my research but i cant find it, do you know what it is?... and btw you have a great laugh, im sure you hear it often!
I’ve been doing some research on Leah Remini for a future video. The only TV movie of hers I have come across so far is one called Follow Your Heart, where she plays a best friend. Not the main character.
Hollywood condescending to instruct all us dummies on morality, crazy
I want my two dollars.
Where's Baywatch Nights?
It was the 80s that enriched our lives with lessons. That was the era of true entertainment and strong moral decision making. However, this is a big change from the lack of morals we see on tv today.
Whoa. DID. NOT. Know there was a spin-off to Greatest American Hero.😮
I’m 55, I saw all of these episodes & now I understand why I’m an emotional dumpster fire.
Ouch
If females couldn't speak 😇
You forgot the failed backdoor pilot from The Golden Girls.
Didn’t forget. Since it got a full season, I decided to cut it from this video. But, I will do a video of forgotten spinoffs in the future…and Golden Palace will definitely be on it! Or is there another? If so, I’ll put it in the follow up video to this one!
No, it wasn't Golden Palace. I forget what it was supposed to be called, but it was a whole other backdoor pilot. I'll do my research and get back to you
@@mysocalledgenxlife OK, did some brief research, it was the lowest-rated episode of the series. It was during Season 2 and it was called "Empty Nests." Google it.
Thank you! I will add that to the follow up.
I have a request for your next video. 10 Cartoons, Video Games, & Toys Made From R-Rated Movies.
Great idea. Going on the board!
I think I will just send my therapist this video to watch before our next session. It explains almost all of my traumas.
I can’t tell if this is a compliment or a complaint. 😬
@@mysocalledgenxlife LOL, take it as a compliment. You succinctly captured the zeitgeist of GenX in your video. Good job!
Judge Wilbur from "My Two Dads" was a character from "Night Court". Also played by Florence Stanley. Another back door pilot that became a show was the "Golden Girls" episode "Empty Nest". I believe it was the season 2 finally. The backdoor pilot episode was changed a lot before they made the show a series. Highlander the series season 6 was all backdoor pilots and they all failed. They were looking to find a lead for a new series and wanted a female. They ended up just going with the Amanda character from the series played by Elizabeth Gracen. The new series Highlander: The Raven lasted 1 season but did do 22 episodes.
I loved Empty Nest, I thought Kristy McNichol was so cool! lol
I think it would have hit harder had the crowd not applauded after Edith ran off.
My favorite was Soap with it's spin-off Benson.
The Chatterbox episode of The Nanny. What an awful episode. Always skip on rewatch 😬
Agree! lol
I watched reruns of The Brady Bunch as a kid and clearly remember that Ken Berry as "Kelly" the dad episode> It was SO obviously an attempt at a spinoff for Berry who had just spunoff from the Andy Griffith Show with Mayberry RFD. It seems TV Execs liked Berry. He was on the Carol Burnett Show quite a bit, too. Many may not realize what a "showman" he was. No mere coincidence he was doing a soft shoe type dance in a scene for Kelly's Kids. Berry became a mainstay on Mamma's Family which was a spinoff of a Carol Burnett show skit with Vicki Lawrence surprisingly(?) funny in frumpy, old lady makeup. I feel like I'm aging myself in TV's nerdsville🤓 I don't remember ANY of the other spinoffs -- I may have tried to blockout the Thor pairing with The Incredible Hulk (Hulk was a good watch for a pre teen: "Mr McGee, dont make me angry! You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!" classic TV). But, that Thor costume was terrible, Thor as a surfer type?! Like Totally?! wow worse than the attempt at a Spider Man TV show. Holy ... ! That's where I first saw Regina King. I did watch 227 some, and was not surprised they tried to Spinoff with Jackee. She was damn popular for a while; a scene stealer, for sure. What a waste(d) use of Chappelle and Breuer. Did not get much better with their teaming in Half Baked. Maybe I wasn't stoned enough to appreciate. Good memories again from My Gen X So Called Life video
OK, you so have to continue this into a new sequel video! There are a bunch of other classic sitcoms that tried to do spin offs that crashed and burned, and it would be fun to see them brought out into the light of day as well. For example, the Golden Girls had two spin offs total: Empty Nest, which had a failed back door pilot in GG’s second or third season before debuting with a completely different premise and characters a few years later, and Golden Palace, which was an attempt to re-create the magic that failed badly. The Jeffersons had a spin off based around the character of Florence titled Checking In which failed spectacularly, and there was one last All in the Family spinoff, 704 Hauser, that apparently made for a better working environment for the cast and crew, but really, really really missed the mark with audiences. Spinning off from this idea (hee hee!), how about exploring relatively successful but short-live spinoffs? All in the Family and the Cosby Show, as examples, had spinoffs that initially did well but really didn’t match up to the originals and flopped eventually. It might be a topic worth delving into!
That brought back so many memories. My mom loved Small Wonder. It was her favorite show Saturday afternoons.
Patrick Labyorteaux was almost a Kelly Kid - th-cam.com/video/ifwexJVq5P8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lePLWDVwooekK8rg. He has some great 70s/80s/90s stories & interviews.
Thank you!!
