My So-Called Gen X Life
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ส.ค. 2023
My name is Natalie and I was born in 1977. On this channel, I attempt to re-examine the news I consumed, the pop culture I adored, and the education I received during my ideal American Gen X childhood and beyond. Think of it as nostalgia with a heavy dose of criticism.

My previous video titled the Top 10 Very Special Episodes That Traumatized 80s Kids really hit a nerve with my audience, and the comments were filled with recollections of many other very special episodes that made it clear…we have never forgotten these shows that attempted to teach us valuable life lessons.

He deserves his own bonus video….before I make the full follow up video. So let's reminisce for a few minutes and shed some tears together, shall we?
10 'Very Special Episodes' That Traumatized 80s Kids
มุมมอง 1Mหลายเดือนก่อน
In the 80s, family sitcoms decided to pivot to more serious content once or twice a season usually during sweeps. And these became known as "very special" episodes. These episodes became an opportunity to teach valuable life lessons to Gen X kids through relatable characters. But sometimes, they managed to traumatize us in the process. And they did it with a laugh track. These are 10 of the mos...

The Man Who Broke A 1980s TV Game Show
มุมมอง 13Kหลายเดือนก่อน
Michael Larson was a contestant on the popular 1980s game show Press Your Luck. He went on a legendary run that had the audience shocked, the host losing his mind, his fellow contestants frustrated, and network executives on the phone with their legal team. CBS didn't want to air the episode. How did he get there? How much money did he win? Did he get to keep it? Did he cheat? I'm going to answ...
Why Soap Operas Were So Insane In the 80s and 90s (More Crazy Storylines Included)
มุมมอง 22K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Soap operas in the '80s and '90s were absolutely insane, and I gave some examples of all that craziness in a recent video. From cloning to underground cities and even demonic possession, the soap world went all out. But as many of you pointed out in the comments, there was so much more madness that I didn’t cover, which means... follow-up time! Hey, I’m Natalie, and welcome to my channel, My So...
You Don’t Remember These 1980s TV Shows (Unless You’re Gen X)
มุมมอง 490K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
There's this whole other category of 1980s TV shows, these little nuggets of nostalgia, that didn’t quite make it to the TV Hall of Fame. Shows that, if you bring them up today, you’ll get nothing but blank stares…unless the person you’re talking to grew up in the 80s. I'm talking the shows made specifically for Gen X tweens and young teens…that absolutely no one older or younger would have eve...
Soap Operas in the 80s and 90s Were INSANE
มุมมอง 63K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
Daytime Soap Operas in the 80s and 90s were absolutely bananas. These soaps did some unbelievable things, and our moms and grandmas couldn't get enough of these stories. But still, there were times when Soap Operas just took it a step too far. Which means I HAD to put together a list of the most insane storylines that I can remember.
1990s TV Miniseries Were Next Level (and most are on YouTube) REUPLOAD
มุมมอง 17K2 หลายเดือนก่อน
By the 90s thanks to the rise of cable the networks took things to the next level. Miniseries in the final years of the 20th century often boasted cinematic production values, and featured top-tier acting talent, intricate plots, and lush, immersive settings that rivaled big-screen releases. In addition to the broadcast networks, cable channels like HBO had entered the miniseries game and appar...

My Secret Identity was the introduction to my still existing crush on Jerry O'Connell 😍
1961 is not GEN X. 1961 is classified as Baby Boomers. 1965- 1979 is GEN X.
I'm a Gen X, and most of us are dying too, in our 50s.
?First Civil War? Yeah...
was in my teens around these times.... its crazy that i dont remember watching any of these shows....i was always outside.....
I was born 1989 and grew up watching these shows and a lot of older ones. May be a "millennial" based on whoever decided that, but I love your channel.
This is awesome, thank you!! Do you remember Turkey Television on early Nickelodeon? Half hour comedy hour? Stand up stand up? You have some amazing videos and they are all bringing me waaaaaaay back, thanks again!!
I loved Mr. Mom and Adventures in Babysitting :) thanks for these..
I remembered every one of these shows! Born in 70. I had forgotten how a good some of those were
Luke's hair... yeesh. Balding young
No cartoons? Voltron? Bravestar?
I adored Dear Mr.Hooper! It was so sad when he passed, but very good on the Street to honor his life .
Saved by the bell episode really hit deep
I’m a little house fan and always been confused if he became a Dr or died young
A different world, quantum leap, perfect strangers, Mr Belivideer and Elf. Were my jams
Loved 321 contact! I’m 8 years older than ya so Square Pegs was my fav!!! Like fer sure
Project X with Matthew Broderick
I still remember the Sylvia story so well. It had terrific performances by Olivia and also by Matthew Laborteaux as Albert.
I happened to see this earlier this evening and cried harder I think than I did way back when! 😢
I remember watching the Silver Spoons episode at a baby sitter’s when I was young. I didn’t know it was Silver Spoons until now. I remember when he hit the deer, all of us kids were very disturbed by it and our sitter was telling us it’s only ketchup, it’s not real blood.
The one that affected me was wonder years..when brother died in Vietnam. Not 80s though
Small Wonder was my favorite!! It came on right after Punky Brewster!!❤❤❤
How can they nab you on a copyright claim? What about fair use ?
13:59 Ricky Schroeder is the best at crying. All I hear is “Champ! No Champ!…”😫😭
The original theme song (shopper's bazzar)... sounded like "chitty chitty bang bang"
I used to joke that Bob Barker was my babysitter.
I remember many of these shows. I was born in the 80s. 84. Elder millennial. Must’ve been reruns. I had verbal abuse. Didn’t think I could report it. And I got eating disorders from family and society.
I’m 52. It’s like TV was trying to raise us back then with “very special episodes” that god-awfully tackled some societal issue or another. Cringe
Oh man these episodes are a little light on the issues but could they be done now without controversy?.
Excellent commentary maam, Alex on speed, Cherie being trapped in the refrigerator, and the episode with arnold and dudley definitely had me shook as a kid. GREAT VIDEO, AND EXCELLENT MESSAGES THAT ARE STILL RELEVANT TODAY.
"Gen X, The first babies people took pills not to have." DAMN. I mean... I already knew that... but somehow it just hit different to read it here. I support women's reproductive rights. But still... how many ways ARE there to remind Gen X that we are unwanted and nobody cares about us? 😕 Baby bust... "13th Gen: "abort, ignore, retry, fail"... Nomad Gen... Latchkey kids... the Lost Generation... even the actual title Gen X means we were Xed out. Literally! 😵
I absolutely loved that in the '80s you would learn lessons from the TV shows that you watched like punky Brewster taught you to say no to drugs even though the cool girls were doing it taught you that it's okay to meet a bra and to shop for a bra and don't forget when punky taught us that CPR was cool. I love the facts of Life That show is amazing I got all of them on DVD and I showed my daughter who is now 18 but she grew up on it and Alf. The eating disorder one was interesting and the prostitution one
We always laugh at Sylvia's eyeliner and hair highlights.
Heyyyyyyy Dude! I still watch this show. I believe I read Danny was Mexican but played someone Native American. Interesting.
Do you remember Sister Kate and Swans Crossing? Swans Crossing was my tv show drama.
