I have a request - There's a trope that I'm certain happened frequently in the 80's(or at least once really big), but I can't seem to figure out where I know it from. It was used in the movie "super 8" which was steeped in 80s scifi fantasy nostalgia. In the movie, there's a side character that's an teenager who has the hots for the filmmaker kid's older sister, and later in the movie, they make a deal that the kid will convince his sister to go on a date with him. This trope really reminded me of the 80s. The trope being "hey can you hook me up with your older sister". But I can't for the life of me remember where it's from. Help!
We had this " home computer" a keyboard plugged into your huge cabinet TV and a tape recorder played typing and math lessons. Don't remember using it at all but the tape recorder was awesome
Museum of Classic Chicago Television is one of my favorite throwback channels, especially since I'm from the area. I once watched videos from that channel for hours.
I've found it kind of fun to watch compilations of the 80's TV theme songs. If I had to take a quiz on 80's sitcom theme songs, just based on the music, I might fail half of it.
Great video! I've got to check out The Holderness Family. My husband and I have experienced that "music situation" too many times to count! 😂 Also, the image of John Candy waving at the end of Uncle Buck gets me every single time. 💔
I used to confuse Dana Carvey and David Spade with each other The first time I ever saw the Holderness family was their "Baby It's Cold Outside" parody video. I saw it on Facebook more times than I can count. I never heard of the Wizard of Floyd. That must have been the latter part of GenX. I was born in 66.
Gen X movies that were classics like Ssss about a man turning into a snake, The Warriors, The movie with Rosie Greer head being stuck onto a white dudes head that is racist😂 Bugsy Malone with Jodie Foster and Scott Baio; TV movies like Hollywood Wives, Lace; Roots, etc In other words things that everyone was watching that had major impact on networks; and infamous incidents that was heard around the world
The Paul Rauch era of 1 LIFE TO LIVE deserves Its own episode; particularly Mitch Laurence, ArgenTina, Buchanan City and the mac daddy storyline, Patrick London & The Stonecrest Conspiracy.
@mysocalledgenxlife, I too am a 77er, born Wednesday June 1st. My mom made me a fan of the Big 3 ABC soaps when I was 8 years old, a year into Rauch's run. Llanview was hoppin, and Patrick London was a trip. And when were you born?
Love those classic movies of the week. Which is why I was tickled when on the show The Good Guys they referenced the character Dan Stark starring in a fictional movie of the week called Savage and Stark after saving the Dallas mayor's son in 1985 lol.
We need a video for the FIRST gen x ers. '65-'70! Being born in '65 and growing up with older kids, I feel we are in a different era. I definitely identify with boomers in some ways a lot more, especially in the way I was raised- COMPLETELY HANDS OFF! So PLEASE do a video for us lost ones, focusing on shows from '68-'82.
I was born in 70. This channel really resonates with me. My siblings were all younger than me, so maybe that makes a big difference for some of the content here, as I'm very familiar with cultural stuff that otherwise would have been too young for me. But we all had the run of the neighborhood, 4-6 blocks. We were prohibited from crossing the two very busy streets we were sandwiched in between. Other than that, we were free. SWEET FREEDOM! And, by the way, my kids born at the turn of the millennium got to grow up the same way. I made sure of it. And parents in the neighborhood all seemed happy to let their kids grow up like we did also. They are now in their early 20s and have confidence and independence and are are just great. Not that that has much to do with your comment, but I wanted to brag. haha
@mysocalledgenxlife I'll take a look! I grew up on 60's music- my best friend's siblings were over a decade older than her, so by 1st and 2nd grade, we were listening to The Beatles, The Moody Blues, Cat Steven's, The Dead, etc...(I became a HARDCORE Deadhead by '81), and my television experience was definitely more Dr. Demento, Starsky and Hutch, Beretta, The Brady Bunch, The Munsters, etc. rather than Full House ( Never seen it!) I went to high school in '79 as a complete hippie.
Wizard of Oz was a flop. You could see the strings on the flying monkeys, etc. Someone gets the great idea of running it on TV! Little screen. Mixed colour with B&W. And BAM! you have an annual event that brings the whole family together once a year. Did I miss a James Spader movie? I've been watching him since Tuff Turf. YT is getting another 'like' very soon. Thank you!
Hearing The Offspring on the classic rock station (when my SD card popped out of the slot) made me sadfaiz. But then I don't look my age at all so go me?
Any Gen Xer growing up around the Bay Area will remember the mighty Bob Wilkins and Creature Features on channel 2. It came on after the Benny Hill Show on Saturday nights. Ya watched it because KTVU didn't censor bewbs at that hour and old Hammer Films were full of them. Yep. Peter Cushing and bewbs. Peter Lorry and bewbs. Vincent Price being a bewb. It as all good in 1980.
His Biden is hysterical! I had a friend who knew Dana and Mike Myers. He was a crew or stage hand at SNL. He even worked on the waynes world movies and they signed his hat for him @@bombfog1
@ You must be kidding. Almost everyone in Hollywood is a Democrat and many wish conservatives dead or in “re-education camps.” Hollywood is nothing if not “partisan.” Go F yourself.

Orange whip? Orange whip?
Three orange whips!
I loved when they would air the Wizard of Oz during the holidays. It's definitely one of the greatest films of all time. Also Charlie Brown.
Don't forget the Buggs Bunny specials during Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Xmas.
My family watches Charlie Brown Christmas every year.
📺There's also a nice interview with John Candy's daughter Jennifer Candy who is also very sweet like her father. 🤗🍬🍭🙋♀
80s Ripley's believe it or not and the 80s tv Twilight zones are great to watch on youtube. Tales from the crypt too!!!!
It's always a treat to see Karen Grassle in non-period attire.
Man I’m still bummed by the end of Splash because Allen left his brother Freddie (John Candy) behind 😭
The Holderness family are a riot!

Yes! I have some of their stuff ready for future videos. Fantastic channel.
I found some stuff on there with the original commercials in it
I love fly on the wall! When my husband was a taxi driver, we'd have a date every week to park at Wawa and have a snack in his cab to listen to it
I bought a truck from a lady in Santa Rosa, she just saw Spade in concert. She said she and her husband always watch the podcast as do I!
Totally forgot about Spader playing that Cocaine movie.
5:02 the female and male BOTH with the perfectly feathered blonde hair simply made my night!! 🙂❤️ God I loved the 80's!

I was born in 64. I’m the last year of boomer but I don’t know much about them. My life is GenX! Kid r People too! Wonderama was my life!
Those born '65 to '70 don't have memories until the early 70's. I maintain the first "Gen X" cartoon is Scooby-Doo premiering in the Fall of 1969.
Great finds, I grew up on TV Guide when I was growing up in Beech Grove. Where my sisters grew up on View-Master.

Am I the only one who thinks Wizard of Oz is creepy af? When it came time my kid wanted to watch it I had to leave it to her dad.
Never heard of “booger sugar” as a slang for the powder.
I DID hear “Bolivian Marching Powder” as a kid tho…
I always used booger sugar or nose candy.
Disco dust! I made that one up I think? I'm thinking of maggots being called disco rice in some crime scene and true crime circles @@maximusprime3459
I just heard whatever terms they used on the coolest TV show ever, Miami Vice.
Are you by chance doing another live stream?
Yes. Very soon. They will soon become a regular thing.
I still have a space phone tv! I use it to play Hogan's Alley on the NES
That’s amazing!
Do Dana Carvey and David Spade slobber over the Democrat party? If not that sounds like an awesome show.
They do not! Not at all! 😊 Carvey actually does a great Biden impression that’s absolutely hilarious.
