PlainSpoken
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 ก.ย. 2022
PlainSpoken is a project undertaken by Jeffrey Rickman, an elder in the Global Methodist Church. Its purpose is to restore to Methodists a sense of identity by working through developments in modern Methodism or the larger Christian faith, often using scripture and foundational Wesleyan doctrine. The hope is that a new sense of vital piety and disciplined discipleship might emerge among a new generation of believers.
While Jeffrey's churches support this ministry, it is not officially a ministry of the churches in Nowata and Delaware. Rather, this is a labor of love on Jeffrey's part, with the help of TJ. Eventually, both hope that this can be something that can result in more income, such that TJ can quit his job and Jeffrey can fund increased ministries for his churches.

Richard Allen and Patterns of Methodist Dysfunction
In Kevin Watson’s “Doctrine, Spirit & Discipline: A History of the Wesleyan Tradition in the United States,” I finally read the story of Richard Allen and the events leading up to his creating of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. I couldn’t help but notice some similarities in the dysfunction he encountered and the more contemporary developments of The United Methodist Church. In this segment, I read from Watson’s work, attempt very poorly to retell some segments of Allen’s story, and tie it into an exhortation to modern Methodists not to repeat the dysfunction of the past and present.

Filipino United Methodists Signal Desire to Leave the UMC

In this segment, I review a letter republished by a Filipino group called "Autonomy Now," which I found posted on Chris Ritter's www.peopleneedjesus.net. I don't think you're incorrect that protestant liberalism has a different anthropology (and christology) than evangelical traditions. However, it drives me crazy that there is so much paranoia about liberals seizing power when there are such things as Christian nationalism and white supremacism on the conservative side.
Great history. Great interview.
The Methodist Church has gone totally against Scripture… they have changed GODS word! The should stop calling themselves Christian.
Why did you have to pick Uncle Roger?
The scriptures are the truth. You can’t change them to fit your narrative!!! This goes against GODs word!!! The seminary is completely against the word and should stop calling themselves Christians. The faculty has disgraced themselves and have committed blasphemy!!!
5:44 "The United Methodist Cannibals are now going to..."
Only two Methodist Churches in my hometown remain in the UMC.
Great info and overview. All of the Filipinos I know are quite conservative and many Catholic. I've never seen any business or organization down size very well and this is so rapid and massive I question if the UMC can survive as people understand it.
My church in Virginia left the episcopal church. It cost somewhere around 40 million to litigate and finally lost the historic property that dated to 1732. They recently built a huge new church about a mile away…
Keep up the good work of exposing the heresy and duplicity of the national organization !
Credo in Italian means "I believe", so yeah, probably Latin.
You never know where my former bishop is going to show up. Maybe he will stay over in Africa.
Having sinful sexual desires is one thing. Rooting your Christian identity in those sinful sexual desires is another. Ordaining a man who identifies as a gay Christian is an entirely avoidable error.
All those people walking away are probably not going to become Judgemental Methodists, oh sorry I meant Global Methodists.
The trans challenge is one of those things that can get very challenging. There are so many factors that go into it, even if we consider those who do not have a diagnosed gender dysphoria. I could go on forever about this subject, since it seems that working with LGBTQ is going to be a serious aspect of where God has called me at this point. The subject comes twofold, because it is both a sinful lifestyle and a religion. Communicating with people in this community has to be done with great discernment, because they desperately need to feel the love of God before they would even consider God's holiness. This never means affirming who they are, but carefully separating truth from self and the good that God has graciously provided each of us. In a recent conversation with one such teen, I told her that the compassion she was experiencing was a gift from God, but that it wouldn't last if she continued to destroy herself in the life that opposed him. The part about this that isn't considered very well, in my opinion, is that LGBTQ is a religion. The very first proof that it is a religion is that "not every can be trans." If you try to use their logic and methods against them, "Well, I identify as a woman right now" you will be met with, "You don't really believe that." Why would belief be necessary unless it was a form of religion? If we started treating the LGBTQ community as a religion akin to Islam, I think our perspectives and approaches might change a bit. Christians who work with Muslims take the time to convince, persuade and plead for them to convert to Christ. And when they have converted to Christ, they need to be ready to take them in and shelter them from those who would try to take them back. Anyone familiar with that process knows that it is hard, heartwrenching and sometimes dangerous (even in the U.S.). The point of all this is really just to highlight how serious we need to take this. I do believe that when we are dealing with those who are part of the LGBTQ community, we are dealing with something bigger than an individual who is lost. I wholeheartedly believe that we are dealing with a powerful spiritual force opposing God, which is why so many Christians are deceived and swept along.
Since you all are gone now they will begin to eat their own as they have no boogeymen to beat up on except themselves. The Centrists will be the next victims.
Left wing ideologues of whatever stripe always attack in a similar manner. It’s always denigrating, personal, and they are so much smarter than you troglodytes.
Romans 1:20-32 and following and I Corinthians 6:9-11. If you support what man wants and not obeying the Word of God. You lose the favor of God.

We walked out when we saw the writing on the wall a few years ago AND found a BIBLE based MO Synod Lutheran church that holds God's truths regarding human sexuality.
I was serving three UM Churches in The North Alabama Conference as a retired Elder. I disaffiliated effective June 30, 2024. Two of my churches closed and one stayed UMC. I turned in my Orders and received my Orders back within two weeks. They were stamped with red ink from top to bottom. Prayers for all those involved in the disaffiliation process. SHALOM.
Women "pastors" is the gateway drug and the SBC should stand up and take some notes. Once you learn how to twist black and white scripture to fit your own worldview there's nothing to stop you from doing that in every area of the Bible. I grew up Methodist and I consider this entire arc a cautionary tale to true churches everywhere. Slippery slopes are slippery...and sloped. Get out now.

It will be interesting to see how many people leave the congregations that decide to stay in the UMC. What we are seeing in PA is that the stronger churches left and seem to be doing generally well in the GMC. Our church is growing with new members each month.
Bishop has a hard heart.
I had a friend who asked me why I left. I told her it was because I could read.
I saw a video from a Methodist church in Palm Springs where congregants and the Pastor took turns saying, "We say Gay". Not Christ died for your sins or a myriad of other things.
Send that to me, please. plainspokenpod@gmail.com
Clarification. It was an Episcopalian church. They do share pulpit fellowship in any case.

I'm a Baptist, but it breaks my heart to see the UMC destroy itself like this. I heard what happened at the 2024 conference and was disgusted that a church would blatantly turn against what God had put in His Word. I hope the alienated members can find a home either with a GMC or perhaps at a church like mine.
There is no god
It takes a very insecure white conservative to compare the plight of conservatives who exclude people to the plight of African-Americans in early methodism.
Dude I pretty clearly distanced the two situations in the piece. Chill out.
Lord G-d come quickly and take your faithful Bride home with you. Keep us pure, holy, and faithful unto you, Amen.
If anyone would like to see a podcast interview with the new archbishop Steve Wood of the ACNA, see the Anglican Unscripted #868 podcast. (This is a very enlightening podcast every time, BTW.)
I went to A Bible College in the Stone Campbell movement in the 80's. The corruption was rampant even back then. Sad.
DON'T go down the same road as the UMC ! God cannot bless those who turn their back on Him.
People in hell want ice water, bishop.
The contempt for the laity follows from a contempt for God and his Word.

Raised methodist was on the church board. I left as the church moved more left. Still a believer but no longer have a church home.
My church membership was with a Methodist Church from early 1980s until 2006 and had to depart because United Methodism proudly marched away from The Word presented in Bible!
Brand name loyalty to a particular denomination is a non starter today. People need to find a church that fits them and makes them happy. If they do not feel affirmed or comfortable in a particular church, there are plenty of other choices out there. I don't get my shorts in a knot over this. Churches of nearly every type are in decline today. To tell you the truth the fastest growing religious identity in this country today is NO CHURCH especially among younger, better educated people.. And how do churches respond to this? We fight amongst ourselves. This is not a plan for success!

Let the Conservatives in the UMC do exactly the same thing. Let the UMC try to make the best of it in the court of public opinion.
Rev, Roseberry...... thoughtful wisdom. That's something we need more of in this crazy time. Thanks for the conversation.
The progressives learned to indoctrinate students by becoming teachers, churches by indoctrinating in Seminaries. Similarly, they learned to not bother becoming defense attorneys. Instead, become judges and prosecutors (that rarely prosecute).
A long time professor at Asbury Seminary told me over 10 years ago, that if the Nazarenes continued on their current trajectory, they were roughly 20 years behind the UMC in the results.
Your denomination has become titally apostate. You spit on God's word. In His face. On the sacrifice of my precious savior Jesus. And you wonder why anyone who has a relationship and love for the very one you deny would walk away. You're all pathetic.
There is no god
An oooohhh so ancient rhyme springs to mind which seems to fit the reaction of progressives to the failure of their 'enlightened' polices. When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout.
Sorry to double comment, but ( ~ @56:00 ) it would be awesome if you could give some sort of analysis of Life Church. As a fellow Okie, I know it’s more of a local thing for us, but I can’t find really anything substantial about what is a really major deal here. I’m not a fan at all from what little I know about them, but I also don’t really have the experience or knowledge about them to offer anything substantive. However, having said all that, I know several people who have been baptized in Life Church and credit it with their conversion to Christianity and they are very involved there. I still question the level of discipleship that happens there. I can’t say that I’m really disappointed the UMC kinda pushed Craig Groeschel out in OK. Sometimes we feel like we really dropped the ball because of what a success he’s been, but I think in this instance the Oklahoma Conference probably made the right calls that he really wasn’t a good fit with Methodism (of course that happened in the 90s too I think)
Jeffrey, we would all be better off if you would move on with your faith and quit demonizing those who choose to remain United Methodists. Your obsession with your agenda is not helping anyone and is unhealthy.

~ @48:00 “prevenient” comes from the Latin “pre” + “venire” (before + to come = to come before). Prevenient is better construed as the Grace that comes first (before conversion/conviction) 1 John 4:19 - We love because He first loved us. “Preventing” is alright, but I think some of the uncomfortableness or issues that you mention coming result from “preventing” not being a precise translation. It’s a functional translation to the extent that it helps figures like Wesley convey their theology (partially by appropriating a Latin theological term into common English), but the further you push it past it’s intended functionality, the more problematic issues you’ll run into
The creeping in has been happening for many years. Northwest Nazene College hired an openly practicing art professor back in the late 60's. Many called for her to be fired, but they never did as far as i know. Homosexuality was happening in multiple Nazarene churches in the valley I was raised in. Some were addressed by shipping the person or persons to another non-suspecting congregation only to have more lives destroyed. I left the Nazarene church many years ago but still have family and friends in the Nazarene church. I will say it isn't any better in most other denominations.
That book was soooo detailed and it was good too.
