Golden Axe on the Genesis better than it’s Arcade counterpart?
The problem I have with this game is that the checkpoints are spaced too far apart and there are not enough. I never play this one because of that reason and annoying parts like right before the creature when they put the disappearing platforms that you can’t see all of with the blades that drop down on you as you’re trying to jump across them. The design standard of the first 4 games wasn’t upheld with this one. If you know what you’re doing even in adventure you won’t die.
Well it would take the hobbyist programmer to really master programming to the SNK NeoGeo AES/MVS hardware because it will require advanced and experienced programming skills that usually means also doing tricks to duplicate those Super Scaler effects... However even the Sega System 16 and Super Scaler arcade boards (two different things btw as they were not the same capabilities) were being programmed by extremely competitive hardcore and visionary programmers just to calculate all those simulated 3d sprite scaling effects even with the advantages of the Super Scaler and System 16 hardware processors. Note too that Square managed to almost duplicate the Outrun like effect with Rad Racer games on the Nintendo FamiCom NES which iirc had an additional processing chip inside the ROM Cartridge for the smooth calculations and knowing that the CPU on the NES was 1.7Mhz. Meanwhile on Sega MegaDrive hardware where there is a vast performance increase over the NES, it wasn't that easy to immediately make a game that seemed better than Rad Racer even though Sega's programmers made Outrun and other devs made the Top Gear games and also Super Hang On was made as some of these games were very early in the generation and not always made by the same programmers or dev teams. With SNK NeoGeo MVS and AES the issue is that once fighting games became massively popular the game developers were trying to chase that successful fighting game hit and even though the NeoGeo MVS AES did get other genres of games, from a certain perspective it was still not enough to dramatically have more diverse genres for example Tecnos Japan Corp was famous for side scrolling belt beat em ups but they decided to make one on one fighting games on the SNK NeoGeo instead of what they were known for because of the competitive nature of back then and it didn't help that Sega of America's 90s management staff failed to realize that 2d graphics still mattered and instead they wanted to go in different directions that gamers... real late teens and twenty years and older gamers did not support with their wallets which was another problem with Sega of America's management because they created the 32X, damaging the first two years of game development on the true next generation hardware of the Sega Saturn and they also kept insisting that gamers wanted live action FMV games which in reality were giving a bad name and reputation to the SegaCD in the U.S. because they were not true videogames... Thus once the Sega Saturn had the 4MB RAM Cartridge, it would have been able to make perfect SNK NeoGeo MVS/AES to Sega Saturn conversions but more so make sure that the Sega Super Scaler games had plenty of RAM to replicate the more advanced Super Scaler games if they would have been made.
Great video!
Sega 32x: I don't exist.
why is nobody talking about leo getting his ass beat while raphael does nothing
Good video. Vector Orbitex version is way superior to this one
The snes tried
Apparently nobody played with New England because their roster is the L.A. Rams with two random quarterbacks.
I tell you there will never be a time like the 90s again. I remember as a little kid walking into loud arcades hearing all the machines operating at once. It was truly an experience.
Both are extremely well done
I am thoroughly impressed with this home port. And this channel
Super Nintendo wins
Nice breakdown I’m still excited for these games. I wish they would bring Kid Chameleon back and a golden axe that is done more like a traditional brawler. Street fighter 5 idk it’s a totally different direction than all the other games. I hope they follow through since the original 4 looked interesting but got scrapped

Wait a minute. I do not remember the arcade ending having a character saying to like the video and subscribe (16:10)
splendid video congratulations. Strider is perhaps the game I've played the most on MD. The main sprite in some ways I prefer it in the conversion compared to the arcade. In the second stage the wolves have some different animations to the MD version, also the giant gorilla when defeated does not show blood but the reflections of fire, a gem in the SEGA version of a masterpiece.
Great video! My theory is that people tend to prefer whatever version they heard most growing up. I played the hell out of SF2 in the arcade before it came out on the consoles, so the CPS-1 score will always be my favorite. But I get why people would have a soft spot for the SNES version too, which was well done, but just had a different vibe.
I would have liked to see some parallax background scrolling on the 32x.
Sonic: "I have a feeling im gonna be famous in a few years..." (a few years later) "ALRIGHT! THIS IS HAPPENING!!!"
Where is it
I have the Super Nintendo version. Definitely awesome but very challenging
To those that dont know because of the way this video is presented, the 32x version is a hack of the Genesis version as the game was never offically ported to 32x and in that respect it makes sense why things missing on the Genesis are also missing on the 32x version.
Great review of what is probably my fave SNES game! I wish the multi directional whip was used in other Castlevania games.
Practically grew up on the SNES version.
Arcade is better
Absolutely. The more varied instrumentation gives it a lonesome old west sound that is lost in the SNES version, which uses the same samples as every other track in the game. The vibes of the arcade version’s soundtrack are unmatched!
There is a 1Up behind the first pillar @13:21 you need to whip up to hit the candle that’s hidden.
I just want to say that the production values on this review are top shelf. Seriously, so very well done
Song was still close enough
They just jelly...Trying to cover for SG's flawed audio. I suggest you create a link of SG's flawed attempt to recreate it and post it here: sounded as mono as if you had a mono video recorded using only the white audio jack. Not only that, you can hear in almost all of their games either in the music and/or char/action audio! Their audio is so last gen(back to the NES day)! Plus, the SMS was beaten by the NES audio, as well!
I think is good. The arranged soundtrack rocks, it makes a greet effort to look like the original, the controls are stiff like the arcade original, but competent and it includes the speech of the arcade. In fact, this is the best port you can get of Street Fighter along with the great US Commondore 64, made by Pacific Dataworks.
It's the best

Thank you for this message
6:06 that ride armor in genesis version is from Mega Man X3. Also, the genesis version uses sound effects from the PSX games.
Thanks for the memories, I had problems with my parents for buying me this game with my first job salary
It's funny, because I bought this game with the money I earned from my first job I got into trouble with my parents hahaha
I can't believe a video with TTS is where i learn why Super is way too slow compared to R-Type II. Though Im also wondering: how come the SNES used a cpu so slow? 8 bit consoles like the Turbografx16 had 7.16mhz and it got quite close to the Arcade speed for R-type 1
Compatibility with NES CPU. They want the development to be as easy and compatible with the original CPU that was used on the NES. At the same company that made the NESCPU
THIS VIDEO CONFUSES PEOPLE, THE SEGA GENESIS COULD'VE GOTTEN ARCADE PERFECT, but there's an AGENDA to "not to admit" the real capabilities of certain consoles, i encourage you and everybody to take a look at games like Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, or many other homebrew tech demos (arcade ports) that PROVE THIS VIDEO WRONG, BETTER RESEARCH NEXT TIME WHEN MAKING A VIDEO. CHRISTUS VINCIT, CHRISTUS IMPERAT. DEUS BENEDICAT TIBI.
Serious? Have you not heard of cart sizes? Earlier games were limited by smaller cart sizes. As the developers got more familiar over time, Sega allowed increased cart sizes for them to take advantage of. Nintendo did the same thing with the SNES. Next time I encourage YOU to do some research before ignorantly running off at the mouth.
Thank you for this comparison.
The Sega Genesis had superior sound hardware that when utilized, made for some amazing tunes!
Sega CD for the win
Did you know that the design period for the snes was in fact, an earlier date than that of the Sega console. Making the snes technology older, despite it having more colour, the machine is not well suited for fast action gameplay.
There's no way the snes version has is better in any way but graphics. It plays slower, slows down and it's easier. Most people concede that the Sega Mega Drive version (a near to release title) on just 4Mbit cart is the superior version of Ghouls'n'Ghosts for it's faithful gameplay and accurate reproduction of the arcade graphics..
SNES design period 85-87. Mega Drive design period 86-88. Of course, the master design engineers at Sega can make a better game system than Nintendo, a toy company.
Nice video! Can't beat the nostalgia of the NES version, it sounds tighter to me as well. Like @miket2646 mentioned, the arcade version, while technically better, sounds a bit harsher to me with the mix.
And the chip tunes are so nostalgic
@@playnalisis Exactly!
You got the different difficulty part right! Genesis version of Mega Man is a freaking bloodbath! Noobs, expect to die.... a lot.
This level of detailed review is awesome! Keep up the good work.
Thank you
awesome and fair review, brung alot of truth to the light also I'm glad you brought up the capabilities and it's true even though a lot of people perceive something would run on the Saturn (like sonic mania) but this would need something more akin to the dreamcast to run at it's full potential even those DnD games had MAD loading times and the sprites were way more tiny. Yea and the soundtrack while sounding more high tech due to having 2xYamaha YM3438 (updated ym2612) and dedicated 8 channels of PCM and now 8 bits instead of 4 for the tunes but nothing stood out as a banger. i remade the wilderness from the original and that was really fun to recreate especially the build up in the middle i even added 2 extra leads including a lesser known instrument called a Musette de cour which is like a high tech bag pipe that "First appeared in France, at the very end of the sixteenth century, the musette was refined over the next hundred years by a number of instrument-making families"
I think with the 4meg ram cart, they Saturn would have done a great port.
Because technically it had more a lot of memory, it wasn’t used to its sprite scaling capabilities
@@playnalisis oh yea it would run but it would have to be scaled down such as frames enemies on screen , scene transitions ect , on paper the Saturn seems more powerful but system 32 has a major ace and that's the Sega 317-5964 chipset @ 50 MHz, which is a super fast 2d accelerator with an Access time of 45 nanoseconds and in 2d games its all about that fast ramdac (think about fast rom slow rom snes games its the same idea), The added Gpu stuff in the saturn is more 3d based so it dosnt operate the same. it's why in games like marvel super heroes vs street fighter with the 4MB ram you got more frames but the frame rate dropped. another example is S3 Virge 4MB of 35ns RAM vs. Voodoo3 16MB graphics cards. the voodoo 3 is a crazy super capable gpu and the chipset was modified into the PlayStation 2 kind of like a Voodoo 3/4 hybrid, but the S3 Virge absolutely smokes it in *pure* 2d thanks to its faster ramdac.
@@StevenCusic man is amazing how much you know.
@@CubamusPrime to many deep rabbit holes lol
Oh dang you finnaly started blowing up
The sound in the the arcade is amazing especially the explosions they brung it to a whole other level in super contra though
Hello
Hi how are you today?
With all of that slowdown and you putting stuff on the screen, how could anyone make a good comparison?
Bro what are you talking about? All this stuff doesn’t affect the game.
I truly wish they would have added characters rather than replace them. And good lord was this game in need of a widescreen format to accommodate the cramped character assets and gameplay. Still, it's excellent and we should have had this ported to Saturn, followed up with a proper 3rd arcade sequel using the amazing art from The Duel.
This should have been a launch title on the Saturn.
