Probably hasn't been confirmed anywhere but I've always suspected the "Naruto" guy saw Sakuragi and Rukawa and decided to take their dynamic. Then again, I've heard that his editor was the genius who suggested Sasuke be included in the story so who knows. More importantly, Ayako is the bad boy of "Slam Dunk."

Can't believe you two are going to react to one millon TH-cam videos during this stream 🙀 EDIT: It probably was the case in the previous anitube audits but I really felt it with this that so many of these channels cover series that I am not interested in. Makes it even harder to find an anime channel that I would like. Ex) mumi brought up a good point about how that romance video barely mentioned any shoujo romance at all. I basically checked out of that video and struggle to even think of a shounen romance that i really liked.

I think a major thing is not mentioned in regards to streaming sites, that the content you allowed to watch also region dependent. The old Urusei Yatsura on Crunchyroll is not available in my region (which is ironic, considering they dubbed Inuyasha here), hell some streaming sites like Hidive and RetroCrush you can't access in Europe.

I kinda disagree in the comment that "media companies don't care about word of mouth these days". Quite the opposite, they're trying actively to get cozy with online influencers in places like TikTok because they want to control both the words and the mouths. Also, this strategy save them lots of money and resources they could spent instead on normal advertising campaigns to push their shows with no guarantee of success.

I don't download Torrents because they are too complicated. I always get annoyed when some people get preachy about using Torrents. If Piracy is a service issue then guess what Torrents are for more inconvenient then even the worst legal streaming site, even HIDIVE is more convenient for me then messing with bloody torrents.

Anyways, a stream every week of september? Let's goooooo.

It was fascinating of you all to talk about the different definitions of the term "gatekeeping," such as the term used to refer to as accessibility to information, media, and various other stuff. I have a feeling that the loudest "we must gatekeep" people's method of "gatekeeping" is to be so annoying, mean-spirited and/or bigoted in spaces where they can be seen (mostly online spaces?) to the point where others who aren't familiar with x hobby wouldn't want to get into it because of the "we must gatekeep" group's behavior. That said, they seem to believe that this method will keep the "wrong" people out of the space. Thankfully, they would get booted out of cons and events if they brought that sort of behavior there. The idea you all mentioned about watching things raw made me think of the time when I caught the raw version of Dragon Ball Z's Buu Saga and GT on The International Channel in the US before Funimation brought them over. I was somehow able to get a basic idea about the events that transpired. I think it was about 20 to 40 percent. Huge props to you all combating elitist mindsets-- especially when you were all talking about how our experiences plus other factors play a role in our tastes. The lost media part (plus gatekeping parts) also reminded me about how the anime film Gothicmade never got a home video release since Mamoru Nagano believes that the film should only be watched in theaters. While I haven't done a recent search yet, I wonder if any fansubbers have found a way to crash the gate on that one so that those who don't live in Japan can watch it. Speaking of fansubs, it also made me think about the idea of shows that lack English fansubs might have fansubs in other languages, such as Spanish fansubs. Who knows, that could be an interesting video/podcast topic to explore.

Alright gonna throw my two cents in. I hope you read it but it is long. Been watching all sorts of dubbed anime and noticed a difference between them and newer ones. I I don’t see how there is any context where sjw and cuck can be used in Hajimete no gal or patriarchy in dragon maid. If people genuinely think that’s what localization is all about they’re on a different planet. People can say shit like speed racer is shit for changing names but hey he can still kill a ton of people with little to no censorship star blazers can still keep the wave motion gun and ships being fired at and all the original music and opening dubbed. People like to say lots of older dubs are shit when in reality I can sense more respect for the source material than most modern dubs. Granted most of that has to do with age people who dubbed those shows are boomers and weren’t failed theatre actors searching for anything else, hell you can say for stuff like the sailor moon dubs it was almost entirely dominated by actual Canadian voice actors granted the viz dub does a pretty good job of getting voice actors who do more then just anime. Yet they can still be called crap because of name changes? And you know not changing actual context. It’s too far gone at this point gekiga manga are really the only place where actual professional translators have migrated to. I’m not gonna keep watching these shows if the same 30 people are used in everything or I can’t even trust them to localize dialouge right. That’s the issue I have. At least with companies like geneon and Bandai when they released stuff I could trust the cast would fit, and hell the dub would yknow be actually translated right. Actual translators aren’t going away there’s too much nuance in text. But if AI can be used as a tool to get more nuanced sentences, and ward out bias towards the work I’m fine with it Robert woodhead flat out admits he does that now. There’s also the issue of typecasting which don’t deny it doesn’t happen it does, how many times have you heard rial or marchi or grelle in a harem? Or just bias preventing licenses like Justin sevakis flat out admiting he won’t license MD Geist because the place he worked at had someone who liked it and compared it to working on scat hentai (which he actually did it’s very weird) idk man there’s just a sort of bias that needs to be completely weeded out. Not get rid of those people discotek is usually great at releases that was just one example, but like a soft industry reset of newer people coming in like me who are interested in anime history It really only started notice after ghost stories showed they could get away with it. Those are my thoughts
