It seems like teachers (like yourself) are fed up with the public school system and are starting to contribute to homeschooling via virtual teaching. This is a good thing!

Ty for sharing your truth about it. Middle school is no picnic and I taught it for 12 years. High school has its own problems with cell phones and managing the attitudes that come with it and administration is sadly unable to handle this monster that's just getting worse over the years.

As a former Middle School Art and Elem Ed teacher I quit after 9 years of teaching too. My first and last years were middle school. I challenge any non teacher to visit a middle school and stay for a day. I was thinking of returning…..but I don’t think I can do it. Working in retail management now. Not what I thought I’d be doing … less pay, infinitely less stress/workload. .

They want to end Public Schools. Then, lower property taxes. You see, every dollar spent on public education is a dollar, not on the corporations' books. Plus , more home sales.

I was offered a teaching job from the largest online school in my state, but the school received hundreds (I mean HUNDREDS) of bad reviews from employees and former employees. So, at the last second, I turned down the offer. Even during interview, one of the administrators stated the turnover rate is very high, so I feel like a dodged a bullet on that one. I may just try one more year of in person, and if it does go well, I will apply and try to interview at the other online schools in my state. 👍

That’s why I am stellar substitute. In and out of the classrooms, but still kids behavior is a mental drain. Oh how many times I say that is it this is my last year, but no change happened in my summer break and I go back to it. I love working with kids, but but if they behave.😅

I’m curious because for every video I watch it seems like teachers tend to teach just one grade each school year, so it must be easier to plan for just one level rather than three to four different one

Cell phones are a big problem. Yet, admin puts the burden on teachers of trying to enforce the no cell phone policy; which causes more stress, confrontational, and most of all instruction time.

  • @user-vq1pj2yg8x

Our school takes the phone and will charge $50 to get them back. Kids have to put them on off or airplane ✈️ mode. It’s still not a 100% deterrent. After work duties, the pd meetings, the committees, the data meetings, it’s just endless!! No extra pay, tons of extra work, I never was done.

Your not alone, I quit for many of the same reasons, I will say after the Tik Tok Bathroom Vandalism our admin literally put their desks in the student bathroom(female in the girls - male in the boys), problem solved, Teacher quality has significantly declined now because of the shortage they are putting no-decreed non-certified people in core areas, these people are worse than the kids. New teachers are not much better bringing in personal bias, unprofessional, etc. Honestly we should do away with compulsory education after 8th grade and if the students can't act like normal humans kick'em out. And YES, teachers should not be required to work extra duties, but if they volunteer they should be paid.

Mabey if they made shorter days for kids they would focus more. It's that simple. I hated school I was nice to my teacher, respectful and all but I just could not sit in a chair and deal for so long. Listen not all kids are the same ...every child is different. That's why teacher will always have a hard time controlling all the kids they all have different personalities and attention span. Less time in school.....they could focus more in short sessions. Kids need to be playing enjoying life and not sitting by a desk all day. And to add to your burn out as well your days are long,,,then they want you to attend meeting which make them even longer. No time for yourself no time for YOUR own kids and family . No wonder your burned out.....so are the kids..... As far as the bathroom goes there needs to be rules in place for how long you can be there for and there should always be a security guard walking around the hallways making sure kids are not wondering around. But schools don't want to put money into that....

I'm a new teacher this year and I broke down crying during lunch the other day from it all just being too much and overwhelming. I couldn't do it all, I was constantly feeling on the spot and in fear of doing something wrong, wasn't sleeping, yet was so tired when I would get home I didn't even have the energy to make dinner for my own teen kids. I've had to order meal services. They want too much.

This is so sad. I am currently a substitute for a total of 5 wonderful schools in Jacksonville, FL and these schools don't seem to have the problems as many other schools in the state (5 of the top college prep public schools). I've been so lucky. I do plan to teach Kindergarten in the fall in NC and that is the highest grade I will go. Yes, there is the bathroom issue, but currently there's no battle with cell phones at that level. You already know there's going to be a problem in middle school when the student is 14 and their mother is 29-31 (do the math) and this is very common in many areas. There is no amount of money that would get me to teach middle school (NO AMOUNT)!

I don’t necessarily think inconsistency in rules between classes is always a problem. It could possibly lead to confusion and conflict with some students, sure. But it’s also accurately preparing students for higher education, careers, and life in general. The rules depend on the environment and the situation. Wearing headphones during a study period while silently reading is fine, wearing them while someone is talking to you is not
