We combine the science of strength & conditioning with the tools of applied neuroscience to help you squash your pains and make gains.
Your Brain's Role In Pain and Movement Dysfunction (A lecture on the Neurology of Movement)
Do you or your client have a pain issue that doesn't respond to local stretching or strengthening? You might be experiencing a problem in brain function. Specifically, you might be running into an activation issue in a brain structure called the PMRF (pontomedullary reticular formation). The PMRF is responsible for inhibiting pain on the same side. It's also responsible for reflexive stabilization, posture, muscle tone and autonomic function on the same side. What does this have to do with pain and movement? We are going to cover a neurologic concept called the Neurology of Movement. In doing so, you are going to learn signs you might have PMRF issues causing your pain or movement issues as well as what you need to do in order to improve movement and decrease pain.

Question. Re the eye exercises. If you wear glasses do you wear them during the exercise.
You can. But if you can do them without it’s probably better because glasses cage your vision and reduce the range of motion that your eyes can move through.
Great exercise. I’m feeling the hip activation and obviously feet and toes. But not necessarily feeling the peroneal (sp?) pain I’m trying to work on. I’ll keep doing the exercise but just wondering if I may be doing wrong or not activating what I’m trying to improve. Pretty sharp pain is what I’m working on I’m 8 months post knee replacement surgery.
Hi there, It's not possible for me to know if you're doing it correctly. However, one thing to know is that you shouldn't be using your pain as a guide during the exercise. Instead, immediately reassess your pain issue after doing the exercise and see if it's having any effect. If it's not, it's not the right drill and not worth the practice. You'd want to keep searching for a drill that is providing immediate help.
TK.... Please consider adding a playlist on Joint Mobility. Luv your work. It's a lot! I am working my way around. Dawn
Found your site from PT who DX'ed a number of VOR movements and the use of baseline assessments. Seeing improvement but hope all the sore spots will Disappear! Looking forward to a deep dive on your site. (Today my homework was to watch a distant form like a tree, while riding my horse! Ideally I would have done baseline checks, but I can't hop on and off any more 😢 73 yrs, delighted to still be riding.)
This is interesting. How did you learn this?
@@1x1HealthyEnergybyAndrew lots of years of continued education .
This was great! My issue is a shockingly weak right hamstring which is a flexor on the posterior chain. I’d love to see a video on that!
Appreciate all your content, most helpful 🙏
glad to know that. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting. I learned something. I’m not a coach, nor do I know anatomy. I’m just an office worker trying to figure out how to solve his right leg pain. I really liked how you explained the subject. I understood it even though I have no medical knowledge. It would be cool if you could keep putting out videos like this, explaining complex concepts in a way that is understandable to regular people. Right now, I'm in the mobility program, and I'm learning a lot from the videos in that program. Your explanations make it really fun to learn about the brain. I'm organizing myself to save, and I'm crossing my fingers that I can get into Neuro Dojo next year. Greetings from Panama.

Would this work in pushups when one side activate the chest and the other side the tríceps?
@@mc61k it’s possible that it could but I might choose different cranial nerves. You can simply assess it and find out!
My left side activate a my hamstrings instead the glute😢. Second drill, really helped🎉🎉🎉
@@mc61k nice!
Will this work if my right eye has no real vision and can only see some light and colours due to a detached retina?
@@BuddyTerrifico yes, vision training would still have value because this drill is more about coordination of both eyes together. And exercising your eye muscles on that side is very important for creating activation on that side.
🧠👏👏

Very cool! Thanks for sharing.
Just tried these, in the first exercise on the right side, I felt an uncomfortable strain under my left clavicle. On the last exercise I felt an uncomfortable cramp-like feeling in my left jaw…I had radial tunnel surgery on my right arm in 2021…just wandering if there is a reason for that uncomfortableness on the opposite side and if you have some suggestions? I’ve had 2 fai hip scopes on the right side, 1st in 2011 and 2nd in 2016, do you think there is an issue with all of these right sided injuries?
@@ginanini9745 one sided pain/injury history definitely suggests some things. In this case, it might be a brainstem issue/pattern. We have very specific ways to train that!
Thank you for such a helpful content ✨️🙏♥️
You are so welcome
Thanks Taylor! Love the way you break this down. These exercises are game-changing!
@@solarismoves you’re welcome!
I had severe pain for weeks. 6 weeks later, zero to very little pain. BUT my deltoids won’t fire AT ALL!! My left shoulder/delts are totally withering away. My rotator cuff, evidently lifts my arm currently. Shall I just keep trying to floss, glide and push my left shoulder until it comes back??
Thank you Looking forward to learning more
Should I keep my glasses on while doing the pencil push-ups?… Or any of the exercises you explaining?
It’s a good idea to do them without gasses if your acuity isn’t so bad that it makes it to challenging. But if you need your glasses on its ok, it still has value.
After eyes puh up, my left knee pain descreases and i feel my range of motion got better too. I can easily reach the top of my noise with ease. Thanks
Excellent! Thanks for letting me know! Enjoy
Thank you so much for this exercise, it works fantastic, I felt it's getting much easier with my shoulder. I would love to learn about this. Also, I've heard somewhere that the light could help to activate the muscles, please could you tell us more about it🙏 Sending love from Ukraine
Really glad to hear that! Yes, light stimulation in combination with this exercise can be useful for activating the nerve that is involved with convergence (CN3). So it can actually help some people do the exercise better. If you enjoy this kind of material you should check out the free neuro masterclass (webinar) that I am hosting August 21st. I am certified personal trainer, I have corrective exercises cert and I am a licensed message therapist. My mother in law has five anterior lumbar left side moderate bulging discs as well as scoliosis. Will this lumbar mapping help to alleviate some of the pain?
@@westinsmith1457 for pain, everything needs to be assessed. it’s not possible to know because pain is a brain based output. And everyone is different. That’s why we assess. No doubt, lumbar work is a must with a history of disc issues and scoliosis.
This is amazing thanks for sharing! How might this be applied for lazy left side facial muscles?
Loaded question :) facial expression isometrics can be good. So can activating near by cranial nerves. CN 6 with vision drills and CN8 with sound stimulation or vestibular drills. Again, there’s so many ways to answer your question! There’s a lot to it! Thanks for watching.
