I've been saying there going 2 do this for years that away they can control what we play when and how long we play

I’ll always buy physical games. Why buy digital unless it’s digital only? You can’t play if you have no internet access at the moment, you can’t play the games you bought if they decide to cancel your account. Always buy physical copies. Even DVDs I have been collecting. These streaming services won’t be around forever and the internet isn’t always working the best so buy physical. You have to “work” harder by putting the game/movie in the console but it’s definitely worth it because you for sure OWN YOUR PURCHASE. Be smart, don’t be lazy and buy digital if it’s digital only. It’s not worth it at all.

I feel like physical is still a better option Because if We have a game That we delete off our hard drive and the only way to get It back is to download it , but it's no longer available On the store it's gone If it's. Imagine a world where you got a free digital download of the game with every disc purchase? Or where you paid much less for the digital version because you don't own the license and Sony can kick you out of your account at anytime and bye bye digital game library?

Clearly men are not allowed to have hobbies and must only ever do something that earns money so their wife can spend more money on the things that make them happy. As they say, "Happy wife, happy life." Disclaimer: The sarcasm above is thicker than molasses on this and I know it's a cynical extremity, that's the point. On a more serious note, I do really like one comparison I've seen for this topic and it went something like this: Women: "Why do men play so many video games? It's unproductive, we find it unattractive, and doesn't do anything for the people around them." Men: "Why do women spend hours putting on makeup every day when many men often find an abundance of makeup unattractive and it doesn't get anything done?" Women: "Excuse you, we put it on because it's for ourselves. It has nothing to do with you." Men: "Exactly." It really is just one of those things someone does for themselves because they like it, which can be said about watching film/reality TV/sports, reading books, playing board/card games, and many significantly more niche activities.

When these companies get rid of physical game discs entirely, it will just open a market for new developers/companies for gamers who strictly want physical media games and provides an avenue for more creative and enjoyable gaming titles to be born for us dedicated console gamers. Essentially becoming a win-win for indie developers and studios. If there is a will, there is a way to overcome this problem.

It's the same thing with PS slim models there is always a disc version but the ps5 one made the disc drive a separate accessory which is a disappointment

1. I don't think physical games profit goes up as time goes on. It's actually opposite, they normally go down. If you go to some game stores like GameShop or CeX, their PS3,PS4 game price is quite lower. The advantage is that you can exchange your old games that you don't play anymore, you can get a discount for new games. 2. Also where you can make a profit selling old games is selling 30 years old console or game that is not available anywhere. Remember that technology also age. If you want to sell your games for a profit, you need to preserve them being playable for around 20-30 years. 3. Your point of video game companies not reducing game prices for online games only is also incorrect. The price of video game depends upon how it performed. Many game publishers had to sell their games on very big discount, because people were not buying their video games. While games that are doing good, they won't need to reduce their game price. 4. In Online stores, there is also competition. In PC market, Epic and Stream are leading platform that sell games with very big discount. But the problem with the console is that there is no competition. You can only buy PS games from Sony and you can only buy Xbox games from MS. Unless there is a competitor who games games on both platforms, Sony and Microsoft won't reduce their game prices.

The main issue is I don't want to spend $70+ on a game that I don't own. That amount, right now anyway, usually gets me a disc, case, some nice artwork, and maybe a little goodie inside like a keychain/art cards. Digital offers nothing but air. So far this year I have pre-ordered three physical games, wish I could afford more to support physical game releases! So many people tell me "it takes up to much space!" and I'm like "but you have no control over what you buy". What if you hit a rough patch and need some extra money? A digital game isn't exactly going to help you but having a physical game to sell online will. Add to the fact if you don't like a digital game you can't return it and get your money back, you are stuck with it forevermore! 🤧

It’s far from “inevitable” that we end up with all digital. That’s very deterministic- companies want all digital to maximise profits - that’s it. I personally would not purchase an all digital console for the reasons outlined in video. I don’t see any upsides to digital other than don’t have to get up to change disk but this limitation is only there as consoles force you to swap disks they could let you install full game and validate ownership once a week or something

There games are huge but IMO but lack detail. I want to go into every building and want unique interiors, not just cut and pasted. I want DETAIL!

I will buy physical until i cant. Digital and physical should always be both options. And i personally think there should be laws around digital where they cant take it away. I dont like separate disc drive requires internet to setup. People willingly giving up their rights is wild. If these companies worded it as licensing for $70 vs buying for digital games i feel those people who say it’s the future will sing a different tune. Digital only puts power in store’s hands and you see sony increasing old games price. A lot of games do start digital only but get a physical later so im okay as long as games get physical at all

A studio that made Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim over the course of 11 years can make a good game. Remember why you got in this business in the first place and just go for it.

I’m pretty sure companies can now brick disc games at this point. Any game that requires patches, internet downloads to play the game are brickable. And if they really wanted to rip the game completely from the market, patch consoles to error out when reading that disc. If you truly want to own your games, you’d need to buy consoles from ps2 era and downwards. Where the game disc/cart and console is all you need to play. Otherwise, download a ripped copy and play it on your emulator.

the price doesnt alwasy stay the same. Sony just doubled the price of Horizon Zero Dawn to get people to buy the remaster version.

Only a smart person knows digital distribution is dying

The disadvantages of digital like storage space and restrictions to reselling and refunding are so obvious and overshadows the positives like not having to worry about shelf space. Heck, I myself loved digital until I realized how annoying it was to have barely any space on my consoles and that I couldn’t get my money back. How is digital winning when the negatives are so obvious and deal-breaking?

Most fans will be pleased with a game that actually has good writing, and solid gameplay. But that takes a competent team, and a few extra million put into it, which they don't actually want to do. Also hire bug testers, so game launches don't resemble rotted, termite infested slabs of wood. Personally I don't expect I'll be disappointed at all. Because I have no hype for ES6. I played Skyrim, and Fallout 4. I read about how bad Starfield is. I'm going to take a close look at ES6, when it comes out, and there's a good chance I may not buy it at all.

The moment games turn all digital is the moment I stop buying them.

It is stupid to get rid a physical games. Gaming systems are targeting the rich. Not everyone has unlimited data. An some of those games use a lot of data To play and download. They real cutting off a source of revenue. An I not pay for games to just rent it. Waste of my money.

I like physical discs. The ps5 disc version will be the last game system I buy. It's unfortunate that physical media is dying. People don't know what they have until it's gone and once physical media is completely dead, people will dislike it.

Torrents are the future. The companies crossed all the red lines. Now there's no way back. They don't even have whisper of idea to serve customers.

We always need a physical option, we need to preserve these games, and all digital will make it worse, corporations has already shutdown digital storefronts, and is a bad sign for preservation!

I hope these game companies realize, that for some people like me, getting the games physical is the only reason why they even opt for consoles over PC, is the fact that you can have the game in your hand and you are able to do whatever you want with it. If a game is digital only, well you might as well just get it on PC. I mean I'm a console guy myself and I see consoles without a disk drive to be shitty PC's in comparison

It's been 13 years almost 14, they have no excuse. They've had plenty of time because apparently it's not coming out til maybe 2028. And plenty of resources. Wtf is this talk about it's not gonna be good? It has to be good. Or I'm done with the big game studios.

Only PC media I’m gonna invest into is GoG. The only one who most closely respects you. It’d be even better if on PC you could trade, lend, borrow and sell your license keys once you’re done with them. Essentially a 3rd party license trading system that gives you your property rights back. Either that or give us back offline working physical media for PC games using keys. We will get it back regardless if the internet is taken down by the Russians. For consoles I only support physical media for the Nintendo Switch and some ps5 games that are content complete (very rare now on PlayStation; Nintendo is usually better for this). If they go full digital, I’m done with consoles completely. They will lose all value to me.

Most who buy a game resale their games because they do not want it anymore not treat it like an investment. You want to invest in art buy a painting or something that is supposed to be a show piece.

While I will always prefer physical over digital (and will pay full price for physical), I will only buy digital when it is on sale and dirt cheap (under $20), as my view is if software companies only want me to 'rent' their games, then they are only worth a rental price. I refuse to pay full price for any digital game, and there is plenty to play that I can wait until they are on sale

They just need to take their time, everything is rushed and the quality just gets forgotten about. Yes more scale, bigger ideas that don't get implemented due to time and greed its just sad.

The fact that there was suck a loud backlash over the lack of disc drive proves that physical media is not "dead" and there is still a demand for CDs.

I am an elderly 36 year old man basically at death's door and I will say this: I will never buy a console without a disk drive. I'll get the normal ps5 eventually then just go PC. We aren't always going to have access to the internet lads I hate to say. If not just for preference, think of the horrors of war creeping into the west. We're gonna need physical media to keep us distracted when we aren't fighting for our lives against killer robots trying to force feed us soyslop, crickets, and gender reassignment surgery

Bethesda rereleasing Skyrim a hundred times will be the identifiable characteristic that the company peaked in the years to come.

This is why I will never buy a console that doesn’t allow for physical media.
