In Banbury where you stopped about 1 mile down the road, there is another EV charging spot with about 20 chargers. Consisting of Osprey and Tesla Superchargers (which can be used by non-Tesla's!). I would say Banbury is more the exception and most towns don't have as many chargers as this.
The only way to get InstaVolt to bring down their extortionately high prices is alas to boycott them until they do as they need a steady ROI from their venture capitalist backers. The Tesla chargers were easy to use with their app and our Polestar 2 car a few months ago when we were there and we had a light lunch at the adjacent PizzaHut.
I'm not sure of the situation in the USA... But in the UK Tesla allow non-Tesla's to charge at many of their sites around the UK. As long as your vehicle is CCS plug compatible it will work at UK Tesla sites and no adapter is required. I pay an £8.99 GBP monthly membership fee and get the same charging rate as Tesla owners. The membership fee pays for itself after the first charge and offers about a 15-20% discount over not being a member. I usually pay around £0.38 GBP per kWh with them. When I am on a road trip I just plan my stops in advance with the Tesla Supercharger sites. I refuse to pay these stupid rates of £0.85 GBP per kWh.
Pre-2022 Cost of living Rapid Charging was 25-40p, during that period enegery shot up to 40p+ so the chargers went to 75p+ However, since then it's now around 20-25p ... even if you allow for tz at 20%, there is no reason other than greed these chargers couldn't be 50p or less.
UK kWh pricing is pretty expensive. You mentioned charging at the cottage, how much is that in comparison to DC fast charging? Amazing location lots of different chargers. Thanks for showing this to us!
UK ultra-fast chargers are really expensive, no idea why. I did a road trip to the South of France in mid September and used only Ionity 360w chargers at motorway service stations. I was being charged €0.59 per kW, which is approx £0.49p, that's a huge difference.
The HV to LV step down transformers in the UK are usually 11kV down to 400v (phase to phase). Primary is delta and the secondary is normally star. I think the American system calls star, Wye.
This charging area is one of the most expensive in the UK. None of them are particularly cheap though and at the most expensive its less economical than petrol.
You mean one you can throw up to £100 in a tank whilst backing the Saudi-led OPEC oil cartel and other very dodgy dictator-led countries? No thanks, I’ll stick to my EV which I plug in conveniently using my home charger and charges whilst I’m sleeping, using sustainable and renewable BRITISH electric, costing me only £3.50 for 300 miles. If you want to throw your money away on petrol (with increasingly volatile prices) and hang around stinky petrol pumps, good luck to you.

@@GRD1978 we were actually at Primark around the corner and I was on ZapMap checking what’s around for fun!

85p?? Who on earth voluntarily pays such rip off prices? I’ve just charged at Tesla nearby for 39p!
Yeah that's wild. Luckily I have a tesla Supercharger near me. Max i pay is 51p
Neat video. Thank you.
Glad you liked it!

@@GRD1978 we have been mostly using Tesla SC as well or Ionity as I have some charging credits. With my Tesla membership it was 40p kwh at Gretna

@@simplygregsterev Yeah that's only Tesla's, they all need to be more in line with tesla prices and flexable prices.

Around 21p per kwh
Nice mix of charge point providers.
@@tkmedia3866 it was an interesting mix. Maintenance must suck!

France has sweet sweet cheap nuclear power
@@simplygregsterev that makes sense then. Thanks for the reply.

In Australia it's 11KV down to 415 Volts three phase then 240 Volts single phase.
@@actualfacts1055 same as the UK, apart from our secondary voltage got decreased from 415/240 to 400/230 to align with Europe.
@@Josh__Stevens Interesting.
Still no sign of canopies over chargers.
Same back where I live in Caanda
Should have gone down the road to the Tesla open to all even without membership would have been half the price.
We have been using Tesla mostly on this trip. Today was £0.39 kwh at Gretna near our cottage
Can be called mega hub, but not for me at those prices.
I am jon-Tesla owner, and am on their subscription service

I have to agree but I still
Enjoy sites like this. Large and easy to use
Most people only use these chargers a few times a year so it's still cheaper than petrol.
What an headache and expensive.£45 authorisation? What is that all about and 85pence per kw?And people don't like to stand in the pissing rain either.
Get a proper car. One you can put a tank of fuel in and drive for 600 miles!! EV is a joke.
My bladder won’t last that long!
