    Prym has plastic knitting needles where the tips are slightly rounded. I especially liked their plastic DPNs since they have a very smooth texture, unlike their fixed circulars and crochet hooks, but I found myself feeling much more confident on bringing them to the airport since they're plastic and don't have pointy tips :) another great video, I hope you have a great trip(s)!

    As always, a great video. Your tips are very useful, especially being prepared to give up a project if it is turning out to be less enjoyable than you expected.. Removing that stress is very good. I often have to spend a lot of time in bed or at least resting due to medical issues. This can make me feel like my life is pretty worthless... By knitting and crocheting for myself and others I am able to turn this potentially useless time into something productive, plus all the benefits of colour and tactile sensory thngs from the yarn. Ravelry is great for this, yes, so it's my personal preferences. I don't think it would be possible to organise my patterns on Ravelry, since I have some I didn't buy there. Thanks for the compliment! It's great to hear you're giving it another shot with a smaller size. I wear my weekender a lot, and I have doubts as well. Not about the design, I like it, and it so comfy. I'll knit one more, I think. My doubts are about the quality of my work. It was the second sweater I made, and I did not do the best job with ribbing. So I think to knit another weekender in the same size, and unravel this one to reuse the yarn.

    Love how you go about this! I don’t have any leftovers yet except a few tiny bits from my not-yet-finished Persian tiles blanket, and from my grandma. I’ve only started crocheting beginning of this year, so making a project bag and/or basket sounds so cool‘

      Thank you! Wow, Persian tiles blanket sounds interesting

  • @nannasallynelson3990
    @nannasallynelson3990 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hi there, another great video. I keep my leftovers and wind them up on my ballwinder, knotting them together as I go. Like yarn with like. When I have enough, I hold it with at least 2 other yarns - one main colour (like white baby yarn) and one contrast - whatever I have. Maybe even 2 scrappy balls at times. And I make the baskets you showed. Also shopping type bags. I think the white baby yarn works like a 'carrier' yarn, supporting the knots, so I don't have to weave in all the ends. These have been very well recieved by friends and family, and admired when I go up the street. As for the cotton, I have been making 30cm squares to try out new stitches, both crochet and knit, and using them as wash cloths. This way I can try a new stitch but not get too bored by them if I don't have a big project in mind. I am not into socks much, cause I don't wear them myself. But these light yarns can also be used in bags, blankets and more. Never such a thing as 'unuseable' yarn

    • @ColorPopKnits
      @ColorPopKnits 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! Wow, that's such a great idea, knotting leftovers together and using white yarn as a carrier later. I'll do this for some of my leftovers instead of starting projects I'm not sure I'll finish. Thank you for sharing!

    Hi Kate, great to see you again. As far as I can tell, a Slipover and a Vest are pretty much the same thing, just based on wherever the designer grew up and localised language. As to your slipover, and you say you are disappointed with it. It seems to fit you very well, however I dislike such open arm holes on me, and maybe that is what is annoying you. Also, I think it is too pale for you with a white Tshirt - perhaps a coloured shirt underneath it will look better in your eyes.? I am really liking the way that blanket is turning out. That seems to be such a better use for that yarn and it looks terrific. The lace sweater - congratulations on making a swatch!!! and I am glad it helped you sort out the pattern before you started the main thing. The colour is very nice and I look forward to seeing the final item.

    a great video. I think you were very sensible to abandon that sweater when you decided you no longer liked it. Frankly, I did not think the bobbles suited that yarn. It looks much better as a blanket, and now you can enjoy working it. I really like making blankets and do several every year - the only problem is deciding what to do with them... Actually I gift them to organisations that deal with crises - we have had a lot of flooding and some fires in our area in the last 5 months, so blankets are handy at times like that. Also, the homeless are always in need. Good for you being honest about a yarn you are not keen on - we don't have to like everything we try, but trying is good. Love the red sweater. Great Job Kate. I too enjoy these kind of videos. I think it is a good idea to look back and see what worked, what didn't and what you would like to retry. And it is lovely to have a record of what you have accomplished. The Cumulous Blouse is my favourite, because of the way it fits you. I am not a big fan of oversized jumpers, although I do have a couple... Lovely colour choices you make also.

    Hi there from Australia great video, lots of good discussion behind each of your choices. I must say I do not understand the current popularity of mohair - I don't enjoy working with it and I do not enjoy wearing it. However, here in the Southern areas of Australia (Victoria) it generally does not get so intensely cold as in much of Europe and that might make a difference. I have been experimenting with stitches for the latter part of 2023, making washcloths in cotton both knit and crochet, as they are a good size to trial a stitch I have never used before and have a useful life as more than just a swatch. In my 60 years of yarn craft, I have found myself enjoying colour much more than texture when it comes to creating, and I mostly use very plain stitches in my work. I particularly like garter stitch and it's results. But the stitch trials have been fun. I also watch a lot of youtube videos about yarn in its many forms. One particular favourite genre is watching people confront and organise their stashes - the variety of yarn and the different ways people view it is such fun. I also enjoy watching people making garments from vintage patterns - some of which I knitted when they were first published. I look forward to more of your videos in 2024. Snippets of Real Life are also fun, as I will never have the opportunity to visit your part of the world in person. Regards, Sally

      Hi! Wow, making washcloths to try different stitches is such a smart way to do so; I will probably try something like this. Sometimes, I'm afraid to start a new garment because of the difficulty of the used stitch. Making a swatch of course a way to go, but why not to make a washcloth. Mohair is definitely better for very cold weather, and I think it's rarely cold enough for it here in Amsterdam. I like the way the garments look with it :-)

      I do not use a pattern and my scrap blanket is using many colors worked from one row to another back and forth using the camel stitch and it has a background of white speckled yarn. @@ColorPopKnits

    Good morning Kate, here in Australia it is a bit hot for making sweaters. the snowflake presents for your son's teachers are terrific - a pretty gift of nothing too personal but a nice change from chocolates or soap. RE: the sparkly, knotty yarn. I would definitely stop as it is frustrating you so much. The knots are not worth the time and trouble. A pity you have such a large cone of that yarn but at least it will give you snowflakes for years to come... or bookmarks even. I doubt there is an easy way to deal with the issue, which may well be because the two threads are differenlty spun. If they had then been spun together I don't think there would be a problem. REgarding the red sweaater - I would add a K as that is the name people will recognise you for, and you won't have to answer lots of questions about having a 'different' lettern then they would expect. Enjoy your knitting and I do like your interesting videos.

      Thank you for your answer! :-) It's probably very nice in Australia right now. Are you working on your summer knits currently? I've got a proposal to exchange the sparkly, knotty yarn for something else. I met the shop owner from whom I bought it; she was very kind and sorry. At first, I told her I'd try to make it work, but maybe I should exchange it instead. And regarding the red sweater, I agree that K would make more sense :-)

      Glad to hear you have the opportunity to exchange this difficult yarn. I have made3 crocheted cotton Tshirts this season, and have the yarn to knit another starting this week. They are really comfortable and get a lot of compliments. I am also making up a lot of samplers in the left over cotton, sized as washers so they are practical also. Rather a nice way to trial different texture stitches in both crochet and knit. This week in Victoria (Southern Australia) the weather has been quite hot and very wet - almost tropical in some ways. The downpours are accompanied by thunder and lightning and followed by more heat - quite uncomfortable, but they offer the perfect opportunity to sit and craft. @@ColorPopKnits

    I love the idea of the crocheted snow flakes! I vote for a snowflake garland. That way you could hang it in front of a window or even wrap around the Christmas tree 🎄 I’m currently working on my An Italian Winter Shawl “samples” but this afternoon I mostly knit on my Sweet Shop Blanket with a couple of lovely mini skeins. As for myself, I’m always in the mood for some simple knitting!

    Knitted hat sizes are so difficult to mail! 🙈 I currently have on my needles a hat for my daughter and I cannot tell (even after trying it on her) if the sizing is right 😅

      Yes! Even if you make a swatch, check it, it's still may not fit 🙈 I hope it'll become easier with practice
